What time does EDD phone lines open - need to call first thing Monday
I know EDD opens at 8am but does anyone know if the phone lines actually start taking calls right at 8? I've been trying to reach them for two weeks about my claim and keep getting the busy signal. Planning to start calling super early Monday morning but want to make sure I'm not wasting time calling before they're actually answering. Also heard something about them taking lunch breaks but not sure when exactly that is.

Phone lines open exactly at 8am Monday through Friday. I start dialing at 7:58am and usually get through the menu by 8:01. The trick is to have your finger ready on the redial button because those first few minutes are your best shot.

•Thanks! So you actually start dialing before 8am? Does it just give you a closed message until exactly 8?

•Yep, you'll get a closed message but keep hitting redial. Right at 8am sharp it switches over and you want to be first in line.

I've called probably 200 times over the past month. Yes they open at 8am but good luck actually getting through. I spent 6 hours straight calling last Tuesday and never even got on hold.

•200 times?? That's insane. There has to be a better way than spending entire days just trying to get through to them.

•Tell me about it. I'm about ready to try one of those auto-dialer services I keep seeing mentioned. At this point anything is better than manually redialing all day.

I finally got through last week using Claimyr after trying manual calling for 3 weeks. Took about 25 minutes to get a callback with an agent on the line. Honestly the best $20 I ever spent because I was losing my mind with the constant redialing.

•Is that legit? I'm getting desperate here and don't want to get scammed but manual calling clearly isn't working.

•Totally legit. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 that shows exactly how it works. Way better than wasting entire days calling yourself.

•Just looked this up and the reviews are actually really good. Might have to bite the bullet and try it.

Pro tip: DO NOT call between 12pm and 1:30pm. The entire call center takes lunch and nobody answers during that time. Found this out the hard way after wasting hours calling during lunch.

Muhammad Hobbs
•Seriously? They all take lunch at the same time? That's ridiculous but explains why I could never get through around noon.

•This is accurate. I work in a call center and can confirm most government offices do synchronized lunch breaks. Save yourself the frustration and don't call 12-1:30.

The menu pattern is 1-wait-1-1-*** if you want to save time navigating. Press 1 for English, wait exactly 70 seconds, then press 1-1-***. Saves about 30 seconds per call which adds up when you're redialing 50+ times.

Muhammad Hobbs
•Wait exactly 70 seconds? How did you figure out that timing?

•Trial and error over dozens of calls. If you press too early it doesn't register, too late and you waste time listening to prompts you don't need.

•I just press the buttons before the prompts finish talking. Usually works and definitely faster than waiting.

Monday mornings are absolutely the worst time to call. Everyone who couldn't get through on Friday is calling first thing Monday. I've had better luck Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

•This is so true. Mondays are a nightmare. I once called 150 times on a Monday and never even got the hold message.

Vanessa Figueroa
•Exactly! Mid-week is definitely better. Less desperate people flooding the lines.

Both phone numbers (800-300-5616 and 833-978-8753) go to the exact same call center. Don't waste time switching between them thinking one is better - they're identical lines.

•Thank you for clarifying this! I was alternating between both numbers thinking it would help my odds.

Drew Hathaway
•Nope, complete waste of time. Stick with one number and keep redialing. The 800 number is slightly easier to remember.

Even if you get on hold, there's like a 40% chance the call will drop after 1-2 hours. Happened to me three times last week. So frustrating to wait that long just to get disconnected.

•This happened to me twice! I was on hold for over 2 hours each time and then just got a dial tone. Their phone system is completely broken.

•This is exactly why I switched to Claimyr. No more dropped calls or wasted hold time. They handle all that and just call you when an agent is ready.

Update: tried calling at 8am sharp this morning. Got the busy signal 47 times before giving up at 10:30. This system is completely broken.

•47 times in 2.5 hours is actually pretty good volume. Some days I can only get through the menu 20 times before giving up.

•At what point do we just accept that manual calling isn't realistic anymore? I'm seriously considering the auto-dialer option.

I work nights so calling during business hours is tough for me. Used Claimyr last month and they called me back at 2pm with an agent on the line. Saved me from having to take time off work to sit on hold all day.

•That's actually a really good point. I can't afford to spend work hours calling EDD repeatedly. The callback option makes way more sense.
0 coins
Dominique Adams
•Exactly. For $20 you avoid burning vacation days or sick time just to reach EDD. Total no-brainer for working people.

Don't bother calling after 4pm any day of the week. They seem to stop accepting new calls even though they're officially open until 5pm. Learned this after wasting multiple afternoons.

Noland Curtis
•I noticed this too! After 4pm you just get busy signals no matter how many times you call. Must be when they stop taking new calls to clear the queue.

Drew Hathaway
•Government offices always do this. They stop taking new calls 30-60 minutes before closing to handle existing queue. Pretty standard practice.

For anyone still manually calling - set a timer for each attempt. I was spending 3-4 minutes per call just listening to menus. Now I hang up after 90 seconds if I don't get through and immediately redial.
0 coins
Isabel Vega
•Good strategy. I do something similar but give it 2 minutes max. Any longer and you're just wasting time that could be used for more attempts.
0 coins
Marilyn Dixon
•Exactly. It's all about maximizing your attempts per hour. The more you can dial, the better your odds of getting through.

Been trying to reach EDD for my disability claim for 3 weeks. Finally broke down and used an auto-dialer service yesterday. Got a callback in 35 minutes. Wish I had done this weeks ago instead of wasting so much time.

•Which service did you use? I'm getting ready to try the same thing because manual calling is clearly not working.

•Used Claimyr. Super easy - just go to their website, pay the fee, and wait for them to call you back when they reach an agent. Way less stressful than doing it yourself.

Quick math for anyone on the fence about auto-dialers: If minimum wage is $15/hour and you spend 4 hours calling EDD, that's $60 of your time. The auto-dialer costs $20 and saves you those 4 hours. It literally pays for itself.

Vanessa Figueroa
•Never thought about it that way but you're absolutely right. Even if you don't work hourly, your time has value.

Abby Marshall
•Plus the stress factor. I was getting anxiety attacks from all the failed calling attempts. The peace of mind alone was worth the $20.

Friendly reminder that EDD is closed on federal holidays. Don't waste time calling on Presidents Day, Memorial Day, etc. They follow the federal holiday schedule exactly.

Sadie Benitez
•Good point. I made this mistake on Martin Luther King Day and spent an hour wondering why I kept getting the closed message.

TommyKapitz
•Yeah, they should make the holiday schedule more obvious on their website. Easy mistake to make when you're desperate to get through.

For what it's worth, I finally got through manually last Friday after 2.5 weeks of trying. Called at 2:15pm on a Wednesday, got through on attempt #23 that day. Sometimes persistence pays off, but man it's exhausting.

Muhammad Hobbs
•Congrats! How long were you on hold once you got through the menu?

•About 1 hour and 45 minutes. Not as bad as I expected but still a huge chunk of the day gone. At least the call didn't drop like so many others have experienced.

•You're one of the lucky ones. I've been on hold for 2+ hours twice and both calls dropped. That's when I decided manual calling wasn't worth it anymore.

PSA: There is no secret specialist line or backdoor number that works better. I tried every supposed 'insider' number I found online and they're all either disconnected or go to the same busy queue. Don't waste time chasing these myths.

•Thank you! I was wondering about those other numbers I keep seeing in forums. Good to know they're not worth trying.

•Yeah, there used to be some alternate lines pre-pandemic but they've all been consolidated. The two main numbers are your only real options for manual calling.

Word of advice: make sure your phone is fully charged before starting a calling marathon. Nothing worse than your battery dying right when you finally get on hold. Learned this the hard way.
0 coins
Isabel Vega
•Also keep a charger handy! I've had to plug in mid-call multiple times during long hold sessions.

•Good point. I now treat EDD calling like a major phone event - charger ready, comfortable spot to sit, snacks nearby. It's basically a part-time job at this point.

Final update from my experience: After 3 weeks of manual calling with zero success, I used Claimyr on Thursday and had my issue resolved by Friday afternoon. Sometimes you just have to admit when a system is broken and find a workaround that actually works.

•Smart choice. I wish I had done it sooner instead of wasting so much time and energy on manual calling. Good luck getting your issue resolved!
