What time does EDD customer service open - been calling wrong hours?

I've been trying to call EDD for weeks and keep getting busy signals. Just realized I might be calling at the wrong time. What time does EDD customer service actually open? I've been calling around 7am thinking they open early but maybe that's my problem. Also heard they close for lunch but not sure when. Can someone confirm the exact hours so I stop wasting my time?

EDD opens at 8am sharp Monday through Friday, closes at 5pm PT. You're calling too early at 7am - lines don't even connect until 8.

That explains so much! I've been wasting an hour every morning calling dead lines.

0 coins

Pro tip: start dialing at 7:55am so you hit the menu right when they open at 8.

0 coins

They also completely shut down from 12pm to 1:30pm for lunch. Don't bother calling during that window - nobody answers.

0 coins

Wait seriously? The entire call center takes lunch at the same time? That's insane.

0 coins

Yep, learned that the hard way after calling for 2 hours straight during lunch with zero success.

If you're tired of timing everything perfectly and still not getting through, I found Claimyr recently. It's a service that calls for you and connects you when an agent picks up. Check out claimyr.com - saved me literally days of redialing.

0 coins

Is that legit? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

0 coins

Ev Luca

Yeah it's real. Cost me like $20 but got through in 15 minutes vs the weeks I'd been trying manually.

0 coins

Monday mornings are absolute hell. Everyone's calling after the weekend. Try Wednesday or Thursday afternoons around 2-3pm for better odds.

0 coins

Good to know! I always called Monday thinking I'd beat the rush.

0 coins

Nope, Mondays are the worst. Mid-week is definitely your best shot.

0 coins

For the menu shortcut: dial 1 for English, wait exactly 1 minute 10 seconds, then press 1-1-*-*-*. Saves you time if you're redialing constantly.

0 coins

Why the wait? Can't you just press the numbers immediately?

0 coins

Trust me, if you press too early it kicks you out. That 1:10 wait is crucial.

0 coins

I press the numbers while the prompts are still playing and it works fine for me.

0 coins

Don't call after 4pm any day. They stop taking new calls even though they're technically open until 5pm.

0 coins

Really? That's not posted anywhere official.

0 coins

It's not, but I've tried hundreds of times after 4pm and never once got through or even on hold.

0 coins

I've called 847 times over 3 weeks. Finally got through last Wednesday at 2:15pm after 67 attempts that day. The hold was 1 hour 45 minutes but at least it didn't drop.

0 coins

847 times?! How are you keeping track of that?

0 coins

I have a spreadsheet. Yes I know that's crazy but this whole process is driving me insane.

Ev Luca

This is exactly why I went with Claimyr. That level of stress isn't worth it when there's an alternative.

0 coins

Friday afternoons are pointless unless you want to be stuck over the weekend. Even if you get through at 4:30pm they can't really help with anything complex.

0 coins

Yeah I made that mistake. Got through Friday at 4:45 and they basically said call back Monday for anything requiring a specialist.

0 coins

The 833 number and 800 number are the EXACT same line. Don't waste time trying both thinking one is better.

0 coins

People keep saying the 833 is a 'secret' number but it's literally the same queue.

0 coins

Exactly. There's no secret line, no specialist shortcuts. All roads lead to the same hold queue.

0 coins

UPDATE: Tried calling at 8:05am this morning and actually got through to hold! 2 hour wait but I'm finally talking to someone. Thanks for the timing tips everyone.

0 coins

Congrats! What day of the week was this?

0 coins

Thursday morning. Avoided Monday like you all said and it made a huge difference.

For anyone still struggling, seriously consider the callback service. I used Claimyr twice now and both times got connected in under 30 minutes. Here's their demo video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

0 coins

Just checked it out and placed an order. Tired of this manual calling nightmare.

0 coins

How much does it cost? Is it worth it?

0 coins

Ev Luca

I think it was $19. Honestly best money I ever spent considering the hours I was wasting.

0 coins

PSA: Stop calling on your cell if you have limited minutes. I blew through my plan in week 1 and had to switch to landline.

0 coins

Same thing happened to me! $200 overage charges just to reach EDD.

0 coins

That's when I realized paying for a calling service actually saves money in the long run.

0 coins

The call drop rate is brutal. I've been disconnected from hold 4 times after waiting over an hour each time. It's not just busy signals - their system literally can't handle the volume.

0 coins

Yeah I read it's like 30-50% of calls that get dropped even when you make it to hold.

0 coins

That matches my experience. More calls drop than actually connect to agents.

0 coins

I work 9-5 so I can only call early morning or during my lunch break. This is impossible with those constraints.

0 coins

Same situation here. That's why automated calling makes sense for working people.

0 coins

Yeah I'm probably going to have to go that route. Can't keep taking time off work to dial all day.

0 coins

Don't believe anyone who says there are special menu options or secret extensions. I've tried every 'hack' posted online and none work. It's just the standard menu.

0 coins

Thank you! I wasted so much time trying fake shortcuts I found on random forums.

0 coins

The only real shortcut is knowing when to call and having patience for the redialing.

0 coins

Set realistic expectations: plan to spend 3-4 hours minimum just to get ON HOLD. Then another 1-2 hours actually on hold. It's a full day commitment.

0 coins

This is why I gave up and used a service. I don't have 6 hours to burn every time I need to call.

0 coins

Totally understand. For people with jobs or families, manual calling just isn't realistic.

0 coins

CLAIMYR UPDATE: Used the service yesterday and got connected in 22 minutes. Agent was super helpful and resolved my payment issue. Should have done this weeks ago.

0 coins

22 minutes?! I've been calling for 3 weeks and never even got on hold.

0 coins

I know it sounds too good to be true but it actually works. Robot calls are just better at this than humans.

0 coins

Coffee, energy drinks, comfortable chair, phone charger, and realistic expectations. That's my EDD calling setup now.

0 coins

Don't forget snacks and water. I got dehydrated during a 6-hour calling session once.

0 coins

Good point. This really is like preparing for an endurance event.

0 coins

Final update: Got my issue resolved after 2.5 hour call. Worth it but I'm never doing this manual calling process again. Next time I'm using an automated service for sure.

0 coins

Ev Luca

Smart move. Once you experience how much easier it is with automation, you can't go back to manual calling.

0 coins

Same here. The stress relief alone is worth paying for the service.

0 coins

For anyone new to this thread: EDD hours are 8am-5pm M-F, they don't answer 12-1:30pm for lunch, expect 20-100+ redial attempts just to get on hold, and 30-50% of calls drop even when you do get through. Plan accordingly.

0 coins

This should be pinned at the top. Wish I had known all this before I started calling.

0 coins

Yeah EDD should publish these realities instead of just listing their official hours.

0 coins

This is incredibly helpful - thank you for the comprehensive summary! I'm new to this nightmare and was about to start calling randomly. Now I know to block out an entire day and prepare mentally for the marathon ahead.
