What are the actual EDD call times that work? Been calling for weeks

I've been trying to figure out the best EDD call times for weeks now. Everyone says different things - some say call right at 8am, others say afternoons are better. I've tried calling at random times and it's just busy signals or that 'too many calls' message. Does anyone know the actual best times to call EDD when you can actually get through? I'm desperate here and can't keep burning vacation days calling all day long.

Monday mornings are absolutely the worst. I learned that the hard way after wasting 3 hours straight calling on a Monday at 8am. Wednesday and Thursday afternoons seem to have the best success rate from my experience.

0 coins

Good to know about Mondays! I was planning to take off Monday morning thinking it would be better.

0 coins

Wednesday afternoons worked for me too. Got through around 2:30pm after maybe 45 attempts.

0 coins

Here's what I discovered - they ALL go to lunch from 12pm to 1:30pm. Not kidding, the entire call center stops answering. Don't waste your time calling during lunch.

0 coins

Wait, the ENTIRE call center takes lunch at the same time? That's insane!

0 coins

This explains why I could never get through around noon. Thought it was just bad luck.

0 coins

Yep, learned this after calling 200+ times during lunch hour. Complete waste of time.

0 coins

I gave up on manual calling after burning through 400+ attempts over two weeks. Started using Claimyr and got a callback in 15 minutes. Sometimes paying for a solution is worth your sanity.

0 coins

Is Claimyr actually legit? I'm getting desperate enough to try anything at this point.

0 coins

Yeah it's real. Check out claimyr.com - they have like thousands of good reviews. Way better than wasting entire days calling.

0 coins

My coworker used Claimyr last month, said it was the best $20 she ever spent. Got through in under 30 minutes.

0 coins

Best time I've found is Tuesday or Wednesday between 2-3pm. Avoid calling after 4pm any day - they seem to stop taking new calls even though they're supposedly open until 5pm.

0 coins

Thanks for the 4pm tip! I was wondering why I never got through in the late afternoon.

0 coins

I noticed the same thing about after 4pm. Probably wrapping up existing calls but not taking new ones.

0 coins

Don't call on Fridays after 2pm either. Even if you get through, if your issue is complex you'll just have to call back Monday anyway.

0 coins

This! Made the mistake of finally getting through at 4pm Friday, agent said they couldn't help and I'd need to call back Monday.

0 coins

Ugh that's so frustrating. Good point about timing complex issues.

0 coins

I start calling at 7:55am every day - 5 minutes before they officially open. Sometimes get lucky and slip in right as they start answering at 8am sharp.

0 coins

Smart strategy! Do you have to call the second it hits 8am?

0 coins

Pretty much. I have my coffee ready and start dialing at 7:58am so I'm in the queue right when they open.

0 coins

Early bird approach works. I got through at 8:02am once after starting at 7:55am.

0 coins

The pattern is dial 1 for English, wait about 70 seconds, then press 1-1-***. Don't wait for the full prompts - you can press the numbers as soon as you hear the menu start.

0 coins

How do you know to wait exactly 70 seconds? Is that consistent?

0 coins

I timed it over dozens of calls. Sometimes it's 65-75 seconds but around 70 is safest to not press too early.

0 coins

This shortcut saves probably 30 seconds per call. Adds up when you're calling 50+ times.

0 coins

Both the 800 and 833 numbers go to the exact same call center. Don't believe anyone who says one is better - they're literally the same line.

0 coins

Wait really? I've been alternating between them thinking it would help!

0 coins

Yep, confirmed this with an EDD agent. Same system, same wait times, same everything.

0 coins

Just a heads up - even when you get on hold, about 30-40% of calls get dropped by their system. So don't celebrate too early when you hear the hold music.

0 coins

This happened to me yesterday! Waited 90 minutes on hold then the call just died.

0 coins

Another reason I switched to Claimyr. Their system stays connected and forwards you a working call with an agent.

0 coins

Yeah I had 3 dropped calls in one week after 1+ hour holds each time. Almost threw my phone.

0 coins

Tuesday around 10:30am worked for me twice. Seems like after the initial Monday rush dies down but before lunch craziness.

0 coins

10:30am Tuesday is my backup plan if the 8am approach doesn't work. Good timing window.

0 coins

I'll try Tuesday 10:30am next. Thanks for the specific time!

Forget the myth about specialist lines or secret numbers. All those 'insider tips' online are from before the pandemic. Now there's just the one main number.

0 coins

Thank you! I wasted hours trying those fake specialist numbers I found online.

0 coins

Good to know those are outdated. I was about to try some of those numbers I found.

0 coins

If you're going to call manually, block out the entire day. I typically need 60-80 attempts just to get on hold, then another 1.5-2 hours waiting.

0 coins

60-80 attempts?! That's insane. No wonder I haven't gotten through with my 20-30 tries.

0 coins

This is exactly why services like Claimyr exist. Nobody should have to spend full days just trying to get on hold.

0 coins

Yeah it's brutal. I started tracking my attempts and it averages about 70 calls to get through on a good day.

0 coins

Update on Claimyr - used it again yesterday and got connected in 22 minutes. Way better than the 6 hours I spent calling manually last week.

0 coins

22 minutes vs 6 hours... that's a no-brainer. I'm checking out their website tonight.

0 coins

Is there a video showing how it works? I'm still skeptical about automated calling services.

0 coins

Yeah check out https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 - shows exactly how it works. Pretty straightforward.

0 coins

Thursday 1:45pm has been golden for me twice. Right after lunch when they're all back but before the afternoon rush hits.

0 coins

1:45pm Thursday is going in my notes. That's very specific timing that might actually work.

0 coins

I love how specific everyone is getting with times. Shows how much we've all studied this system!

0 coins

Pro tip: Use wifi calling if you have it. Saves your cell minutes when you're making 50+ calls trying to get through.

0 coins

Good point! I didn't think about my phone bill with all these calls.

0 coins

Or get an unlimited plan temporarily. I upgraded my plan just for EDD calling season.

0 coins

Wednesday 2:15pm success story here. Got through on attempt #31, total time including hold was about 2.5 hours. But I finally got my payment issue resolved!

0 coins

Congrats! 2.5 hours total isn't too bad considering some people spend full days trying.

0 coins

Wednesday afternoons keep coming up as successful. Must be the sweet spot in their schedule.

0 coins

Honestly after 3 weeks of manual calling, I broke down and paid for Claimyr. Got a callback with an agent in 35 minutes. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and pay for convenience.

0 coins

How much does Claimyr cost? At some point my time is worth more than the cost.

0 coins

I think it was like $19 or something. Honestly would've paid $50 at that point just to talk to someone.

0 coins

Same here. Best money I spent during this whole unemployment nightmare.

0 coins

Reality check: EDD gets over 5 million calls per week and only has about 1,000 agents. The math just doesn't work for everyone calling manually.

0 coins

Those numbers are terrifying. No wonder it's nearly impossible to get through.

0 coins

Which is why they really need to expand their online self-service options. Can't scale phone support to 5 million calls.

0 coins

Don't give up completely on calling, but set realistic expectations. I budget 3-4 hours minimum when I decide to call, and I only try on days when I can actually dedicate that time.

0 coins

3-4 hours minimum is a good reality check. I was getting frustrated after 30 minutes thinking something was wrong.

0 coins

Or just use Claimyr and get your life back. Some battles aren't worth fighting manually.

0 coins

Final summary of what actually works: Wednesday/Thursday 2-3pm, avoid lunch (12-1:30pm), avoid Monday mornings, avoid Friday afternoons, and budget 3+ hours for the whole process. Or pay someone to do it for you.

0 coins

This is super helpful! Bookmarking this thread for future reference.

0 coins

Perfect summary. And yeah, the 'pay someone' option (Claimyr) is looking more appealing every day.

0 coins

Should be pinned at the top of every EDD forum. This is the real insider knowledge right here.

0 coins

This thread is gold! I've been doing everything wrong - calling Monday mornings, trying during lunch, giving up after 20 attempts. No wonder I haven't gotten through in 2 weeks. Going to try the Wednesday 2-3pm strategy tomorrow and actually budget the full day for it. Really appreciate everyone sharing their hard-earned wisdom here. The Claimyr option is also looking tempting if the manual approach fails again.

0 coins

Welcome to the EDD calling nightmare club! You're definitely not alone in doing everything wrong at first - I think we all made those same mistakes. The Monday morning thing seems so logical until you realize EVERYONE has the same idea. Good luck with the Wednesday 2-3pm strategy tomorrow! And honestly, after reading all these success stories with Claimyr, I'm seriously considering it too. Sometimes admitting defeat and paying for a solution is the smartest move.
