When to call EDD - trying to figure out best times after 2 weeks of failed attempts

I've been trying to call EDD for 2 weeks straight and can't figure out when to call EDD to actually get through. I've tried mornings, afternoons, different days of the week but keep getting the 'too busy' message. Is there a specific time window that works better? I'm calling about my pending claim and really need to talk to someone. Any advice on when to call EDD would be amazing because I'm running out of vacation days from work to spend on this.

Monday mornings are the absolute worst. Everyone calls first thing Monday and the lines are jammed until like 11am. I learned this the hard way after wasting 3 Monday mornings in a row.

That explains why Monday was such a disaster for me! I probably made 50+ calls Monday morning alone.

Fridays after 3pm are also pointless. They seem to stop taking new calls even though they're technically open until 5.

The lunch break thing is huge - don't call between 12pm and 1:30pm. The entire call center goes to lunch and literally nobody answers. I wish they'd post this somewhere official.

Wait, the ENTIRE call center takes lunch at the same time? That's insane but explains the dead zone I noticed around noon.

Yeah it's ridiculous. Government efficiency at its finest. Save yourself the frustration and don't even try during lunch.

After struggling with this for weeks, I found Claimyr and it changed everything. Instead of trying to time calls perfectly, they handle all the calling and just send you a callback when an agent picks up. Takes like 20 minutes instead of hours.

Is that actually legit? I'm at the point where I'd pay anything to avoid this calling nightmare.

Yeah it's real. Check claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 showing how it works. Worth every penny.

I was skeptical too but tried it last week. Got a callback in 35 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon. My friend spent 4 hours that same day trying manually.

Wednesday and Thursday afternoons are your best bet if you're calling manually. I've had the most success between 2pm-4pm on those days. Tuesday can work too but Wednesday/Thursday seem less crowded.

Good to know! I was randomly calling different times but having a strategy makes more sense.

0 coins

This matches my experience. Mid-week afternoon is definitely the sweet spot if you're going to spend hours redialing.

I start calling at 7:55am, right before they open. Sometimes you can get in the queue before the flood of calls hits. Make your coffee the night before and be ready to dial at 7:55 on the dot.

That's dedication! Do you actually get through earlier that way?

0 coins

Not always, but I've gotten on hold a few times doing this. Better odds than calling at 9am when everyone else is trying.

I tried this approach but my phone plan charges for minutes before 7am. Had to switch tactics.

Here's what I learned after 200+ attempts: use the 1-wait-1-1-*** pattern and don't call after 4pm any day. They seem to stop picking up new calls even though they're open until 5pm.

Tate Jensen

•

The *** pattern helps? I've been pressing random numbers trying to get through the menu faster.

Gabriel Ruiz

•

Yeah, after you press 1-wait-1-1, then press * three times. Gets you to the end of the menu where you either get on hold or get the busy message.

Pro tip: both the 833 and 800 numbers go to the exact same call center. Don't waste time switching between them thinking one is better - they're identical lines.

I was alternating between both numbers thinking it would help! Thanks for saving me time.

The specialist line people talk about doesn't exist anymore either. That ended after the pandemic surge.

I've been tracking my calls in a spreadsheet for 3 weeks. Best success rate: Wednesday 2-4pm (got on hold 3 out of 45 attempts). Worst: Monday 8-10am (0 out of 67 attempts).

You're tracking this in a spreadsheet? That's next level! What other patterns did you notice?

Friday mornings are okay but not great. Thursday afternoons are almost as good as Wednesday. And never call during lunch - 100% failure rate during that window.

Even when you get on hold, about 40% of calls get dropped after 1-2 hours. The system is just broken. I've had 6 dropped calls this month after long holds.

0 coins

Tate Jensen

•

That's my biggest fear - waiting hours just to get disconnected. Has this happened to you multiple times?

0 coins

Everett Tutum

•

Yeah, it's brutal. Last Tuesday I held for 2 hours and 15 minutes, then just got disconnected with no warning. Almost threw my phone.

After my third dropped call I gave up on manual calling and used Claimyr. Got connected in 25 minutes and actually talked to someone. Sometimes you have to accept that the system is broken and find a workaround.

Tate Jensen

•

How much does something like that cost? At this point I'm missing so much work trying to call.

0 coins

Sunny Wang

•

Way less than the wages I was losing taking time off work to call all day. Check their website for current pricing - claimyr.com

The hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Pacific, but realistically you want to avoid the first hour (too busy) and last hour (they stop taking calls). So really 9am-4pm is your window.

0 coins

Tate Jensen

•

That's a much smaller window than I thought. No wonder it's so hard to get through.

0 coins

And subtract the lunch hour from 12-1:30pm, so you're really looking at 9-12 and 1:30-4. Maybe 5.5 hours total per day when calling actually works.

I tried calling for 3 weeks straight before my coworker told me about automated calling services. Wish I'd known about Claimyr earlier - would have saved me weeks of frustration and probably got my claim resolved faster.

Tate Jensen

•

Everyone keeps mentioning this service. I'm starting to think manual calling just isn't realistic anymore.

0 coins

Melissa Lin

•

It really isn't. The system wasn't designed for this call volume. Sometimes you need to work smarter, not harder.

0 coins

My strategy: Tuesday-Thursday between 1:30-3:30pm. Avoid Mondays completely, and don't bother with Fridays unless it's urgent. This gave me the best chance of at least getting on hold.

Tate Jensen

•

This is super helpful! I was calling randomly without any strategy.

Romeo Quest

Same timeframe worked for me. Got through twice using this approach, though one call still dropped after an hour hold.

Don't forget about your phone plan limits if you're making 50+ calls per day. I hit my minute limit in week 2 and had to upgrade my plan just to keep calling.

0 coins

Tate Jensen

•

Oh no, I hadn't thought about that! I should check my usage.

0 coins

Val Rossi

•

Yeah, learn from my mistake. Those redial attempts add up fast when you're doing it all day long.

Eve Freeman

•

Bottom line: if you're going to call manually, Wednesday/Thursday 2-4pm is your best shot. But honestly, after trying for a month, paying for a callback service was the smartest money I ever spent. Got through in 30 minutes instead of 30 days.

0 coins

Tate Jensen

•

I think I need to seriously consider that option. This manual calling is taking over my life.

0 coins

Same here. I was spending 6-8 hours a day calling and getting nowhere. Sometimes you have to admit when something isn't working.
