Need help rescheduling EDD phone interview - missed appointment due to emergency!
I completely screwed up and missed my EDD eligibility phone interview yesterday because my car broke down and I was stranded for hours waiting for a tow! Now when I log into UI Online it just says 'disqualification pending' and I'm freaking out. Do I need to file a new claim or is there a way to reschedule the interview? I can't find any option in my account to request a new appointment. Has anyone successfully rescheduled after missing their interview? I really need this unemployment money to cover bills until I find a new job after being laid off from construction work last month.

call edd asap and explain the situation. they might be able to reschedule ur appt but u gotta do it quick before the disqualification goes thru for real. the # should be on the interview notice they sent u.

•I've been trying to call for 2 days already!! Keep getting the 'too many callers' message and then it hangs up. So frustrating!!

Same thing happened to my brother last month! He called for 3 days straight and finally got through. Just keep trying different times of day. Early morning worked for him.

•I don't think this is accurate advice. Missing an interview and rescheduling needs to be done through the Appeals Office not regular EDD customer service. You need to submit DE 6958 form explaining why you missed the interview. I went through this in March when I missed mine because I was in the hospital. Had to prove it was for "good cause" with documentation.

You need to act quickly to avoid the disqualification becoming permanent. Here's what you should do: 1. Submit a written statement explaining why you missed the interview (car breakdown is considered "good cause" if documented) 2. Include any evidence you have of the breakdown (tow receipt, repair bill) 3. Request a new interview appointment You can submit this through UI Online by using the Contact EDD feature, or you can mail it to the address on your interview notice. Do this ASAP as you typically only have 10 days from the missed appointment to request a reschedule before the disqualification becomes final. If you're having trouble reaching EDD by phone, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They've got a service that helps you get through to an EDD representative without waiting through busy signals all day. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to clear up an issue with my claim earlier this year.

•Thank you! I still have the tow truck receipt so I'll upload that with my explanation. Is Claimyr legit? Has anyone else used it? I'm desperate at this point but don't want to waste money on something that doesn't work.

My cousin used that claimyr thing last month and it worked but idk if thats the solution for this specific problem. aren't u suppose to talk to appeals not regular edd? confused about the correct process tbh

•You're confusing two different processes. For a missed eligibility interview, you contact regular EDD first to reschedule BEFORE a formal disqualification is issued. You only need to go through Appeals after receiving an official Notice of Determination (DE 1080CZ) that formally disqualifies you. OP should try to resolve this before it gets to the appeals stage, which can take 3-4 months to schedule a hearing. Connecting with a regular EDD rep is the correct first step here.

I HATE THE EDD PHONE SYSTEM!!! been on unemployment 3 times in last 7 years and EVERY TIME something goes wrong that requires calling. They literally design the system to make it impossible to get help!!!! Last time I called 67 TIMES in one day before getting through. SIXTY SEVEN!!!!!

•Omg I know right?? The whole system seems designed to make you give up. My roommate was on hold for 4 hours last week and then they hung up on her when she finally got through to someone!

used claimyr back in january when my account got locked after id verification. it worked, got through to someone in like 20 mins. they just connect u to a real edd agent, its not some scam where they pretend to be edd. costs money tho.

•Thanks, I might try it tomorrow if I can't get through by calling repeatedly today. Just wanted to update - I submitted the explanation and tow receipt through UI Online contact form this morning. My anxiety is through the roof waiting to see if they'll reschedule me or if I'll lose all my benefits!

Remember to continue certifying for benefits even while waiting for this issue to be resolved. Many people make the mistake of stopping certification during pending issues, which can create even more problems. The system will show the weeks as "disqualified" until your interview is completed and issue resolved, but at least the weeks will be in the system if the determination is eventually in your favor.

•Oh I hadn't thought of that! My next certification is due Sunday. Should I just certify normally even though my account shows that pending disqualification message?

Yes, absolutely continue certifying. The system will process your certifications even with a pending issue. If the issue is resolved in your favor, those weeks can then be paid retroactively without further action needed from you. Also, I want to clarify something: when you submit your explanation through UI Online, make sure you specifically request a new interview appointment. Sometimes they process the explanation but don't automatically reschedule unless explicitly requested. And don't worry too much - car breakdowns with documentation are generally accepted as good cause for missing interviews. I've helped several clients through this exact situation.

•Update: I FINALLY got through to EDD this morning! Used the Claimyr service after failing for 3 days on my own. The rep was actually really understanding and said my car breakdown definitely qualifies as good cause. They've scheduled a new phone interview for next Tuesday. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for the advice - especially about continuing to certify while waiting for resolution.
