EDD phone interview rescheduling nightmare - online vs phone methods

I'm in a total panic right now because I just realized I have an important doctor's appointment that conflicts with my EDD eligibility phone interview scheduled for next Tuesday at 2pm. I NEED this interview to resolve my pending payments (been waiting for almost 3 weeks now), but I also can't miss this medical appointment I've been waiting months for. I tried looking on UI Online for a way to reschedule but couldn't find any obvious option. Is there some hidden button I'm missing? Then I spent 2 hours trying to call EDD this morning but kept getting that stupid "we're experiencing high call volume" message before it hung up on me. Has anyone successfully rescheduled their phone interview either online OR by actually getting through on the phone? What's the best/fastest way to do this? I'm worried if I miss this interview they'll disqualify me completely and I REALLY need these benefits to pay rent next month!

I was in a similar situation last month. There isn't an online option to reschedule the eligibility interview - you have to call. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call exactly at 8:00am when they open 2. If you get the high call volume message, hang up and immediately redial 3. Use the option for questions about scheduled appointments, not the general claims option 4. When you get through, explain your situation calmly and have your medical appointment details ready They were actually pretty understanding once I got through and rescheduled me for later that same week. You definitely don't want to miss it without rescheduling - that could lead to automatic disqualification.

Thank you! I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow. Did you use a specific phone number? I've been calling the main 800 number but maybe there's a better one?

u can also just write a letter explaing ur situation and fax it to EDD. thats what i did when i couldnt get thru on phone. make sure u include ur claim number and contact info. took a few days but they called me bak and gave me new interview time.

This isn't reliable. EDD is required to respond to phone calls much faster than faxes or mail. A fax might work, but you're risking missing your interview while waiting for them to process it, which could cause weeks of additional delay in your payments.

I had to reschedule mine last year and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get through on the phone. I called for DAYS!!!! The system is designed to keep us from getting help, I swear. I ended up missing my interview and had to start the whole process over again which delayed my payments by 6 weeks. The whole system is rigged against us regular people just trying to get the benefits we deserve!!!

Hey, I've been through this exact thing! The phone system at EDD is completely overwhelmed and almost impossible to get through using normal methods. I discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) after weeks of frustration, and they got me connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. They basically call EDD for you using their system that gets past the busy signals. I was super skeptical at first but they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once I got through to an agent, rescheduling the interview was actually pretty simple. The agent was able to see alternative time slots and moved my interview to a time that worked better. Definitely worth checking out if you're desperate to get this sorted before your interview date.

I've used Claimyr too and it worked, but be aware that there is a fee for the service. I was desperate enough to pay it because I needed to fix my certification issue and couldn't afford to wait any longer. Just something to consider depending on your situation.

ok so nobody's mentioned this but u could also try contacting ur local assembly person's office. they have special EDD liaisons who can help! i had an interview problem last year where i couldn't reschedule and my assemblyman's office fixed it in like 2 days. google "california assembly member" + your zip code to find who represents u.

This!!! ⬆️ Assembly member offices are AMAZING for EDD problems. They helped me too and didn't cost anything. But it can sometimes take them 3-5 business days to get back to you, so maybe try both this and calling.

Employment Development Department specialist here. To clarify the official process for rescheduling an eligibility interview: 1. You must contact EDD by phone - there is no online rescheduling option in UI Online for interviews 2. Call 1-800-300-5616 between 8am-3pm Monday-Friday 3. You should request rescheduling at least 48 hours before your scheduled interview 4. Have a valid reason ready (medical appointments qualify) 5. You're generally allowed one reschedule without penalty If you absolutely cannot reach someone by phone before your interview date, as a last resort, you can use the Contact EDD function in UI Online to send a message explaining your situation - select "I need to reschedule my phone interview" as the subject. However, phone contact is still preferred and more reliable. Missing an interview without rescheduling can result in benefits being disqualified, so make every effort to contact them before your appointment date.

Thank you SO much for the clear information! One question - if I use the Contact EDD function in UI Online, how likely is it they'll see it before my Tuesday interview? I'd hate to rely on that and then have them not check it in time.

I successfully rescheduled my eligibility interview last month after many failed call attempts. Here's what finally worked: 1. Call the main number (1-800-300-5616) 2. Call repeatedly between 8:00-8:30am (took me about 15 attempts) 3. When prompted, press 1 for English, then 6 for scheduled appointments, then 7 for all other questions 4. This specific combination seemed to get me through to a real person faster Once connected, the rep was able to see available time slots and reschedule me. The entire process took about 10 minutes once I actually got through. Don't give up - keep calling! Having a medical conflict is a completely valid reason for rescheduling.

Thank you for the specific button sequence! I'll try exactly this tomorrow morning at 8am sharp. Did they give you an interview date that was close to your original one? I'm worried they'll reschedule me for weeks later and my payments will be delayed even longer.

They rescheduled me for just 3 days after my original appointment, so not bad at all. Have alternatives ready - like if you can do early morning or late afternoon on specific days. Being flexible with your availability helps them find a slot sooner.

Just checking back - were you able to get through and reschedule your interview? Hope it worked out!

YES!! I finally got through this morning using the button sequence that @ProfileFour suggested (called 23 times between 8-8:45am). They rescheduled me for Thursday next week, which works perfectly with my doctor's appointment. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions!

That's awesome news! So glad you got it sorted out. The persistence really pays off with EDD's phone system - 23 calls is dedication but totally worth it for getting your benefits back on track. Hope your doctor's appointment goes well too!

Great to hear you got it resolved! For anyone else who might be in a similar situation in the future, I'd also recommend having your EDD claim number and the original interview date/time written down before you call. The reps can pull up your case much faster if you have all that info ready. Also, if you're calling from a different phone number than what's on file with EDD, let them know right away - sometimes that can cause delays in accessing your account. The persistence definitely pays off with their phone system, even though it's frustrating!

This is such great advice! I'm currently dealing with a similar situation where I need to reschedule my interview, and I didn't even think about having my claim number ready. It's so stressful when you finally get through after all those calls and then realize you're fumbling around looking for information. Thanks for the tip about the phone number too - I've been calling from my work phone instead of my personal one that's on file. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here, it makes this whole process feel less overwhelming!

I'm so glad to see this thread with everyone helping each other out! I went through this exact same panic last year when I had to reschedule my EDD interview. The phone system is definitely brutal, but I wanted to share one additional tip that helped me - if you're calling and getting the busy signal repeatedly, try calling from different phone numbers. Sometimes I found that my cell phone would get through when my landline wouldn't, or vice versa. Also, don't hang up immediately if you get put on hold - I waited on hold for 45 minutes once but actually got through to a real person who was super helpful. The key is just not giving up! And definitely have multiple backup time slots in mind when you do get through - being flexible really does help them find you something sooner.

That's such a smart tip about trying different phone numbers! I never would have thought of that. The hold time advice is really good too - I think a lot of people (myself included) would probably hang up after 10-15 minutes thinking the system dropped the call. It's so encouraging to see how everyone in this community shares these little tricks that can make such a big difference when dealing with EDD. The whole system seems designed to discourage people, but threads like this really help level the playing field!

I just went through this exact situation a few weeks ago and wanted to share what worked for me since I see Connor got it resolved! In addition to all the great advice here, I discovered that calling right after lunch (around 1:00-1:30pm) sometimes has better luck than the morning rush. I think fewer people try calling then because everyone assumes mornings are best. Also, if you have a smartphone, download an auto-redial app - it saved me from having to manually redial dozens of times. Just set it to redial every 30 seconds and let it run while you do other things. When I finally got through, the EDD rep told me they actually prefer medical appointments as reschedule reasons because they're considered "good cause" and won't count against you if you need to reschedule again in the future. Hope this helps anyone else dealing with this nightmare!

This is really helpful advice about the afternoon calling times! I never thought about the lunch hour window - that's brilliant. The auto-redial app suggestion is a game changer too. I've been manually redialing for hours and my finger is literally sore from hitting redial. It's also reassuring to know that medical appointments are considered "good cause" and won't count against you for future rescheduling if needed. Thanks for sharing these tips - this community is seriously the best resource for navigating EDD's impossible system!

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now where I need to reschedule my EDD interview for next week, so this thread has been incredibly helpful! Reading through everyone's experiences, it's clear that persistence is key with the phone system. I'm planning to try the 8am sharp approach with the specific button sequence that worked for Oliver, and I'll have my claim number and backup time slots ready. It's so frustrating that there's no online option for something this basic, but at least now I know what to expect. Thanks to everyone who shared their strategies - it really helps to know that other people have successfully navigated this nightmare system!

Good luck with your rescheduling! One thing I learned from my experience is to also write down the name of the rep who helps you reschedule, just in case there are any issues later. Also, if you do get disconnected while on hold (which happened to me once), don't panic - just call back and explain that you were already connected and got cut off. Sometimes they can prioritize getting you back through. The whole system is definitely broken, but this community makes it so much more manageable when we all share what works!

For anyone still following this thread or dealing with similar rescheduling issues, I wanted to add one more strategy that worked for me recently. If you're having trouble getting through on the main 1-800-300-5616 number, try calling your local EDD office directly. Many people don't know that each region has local offices with their own phone numbers, and sometimes these are less congested than the main line. You can find your local office number by searching "EDD office near me" on Google or checking the EDD website. When I called my local Fresno office, I got through in just 3 tries and they were able to reschedule my interview just as easily as if I'd called the main number. The rep even told me that local offices often have more availability for rescheduling because they serve a smaller area. Worth a shot if the main number isn't working for you!

This is such a brilliant tip about calling local EDD offices! I had no idea they could handle rescheduling too. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get through on the main number for my own interview issue, and it never occurred to me that local offices might be an option. I'm definitely going to look up my local office number and try that approach. It makes total sense that they'd be less congested since most people probably don't even know this is possible. Thanks for sharing this - you might have just saved me hours of frustration! Did your local office have the same phone hours as the main line (8am-3pm)?

I'm a newcomer to this community but had to share my recent experience since this thread has been so helpful! I just went through this exact same panic situation last month - had an EDD interview scheduled during my kid's school emergency and couldn't figure out how to reschedule. After reading similar advice in other forums, I tried the early morning calling strategy (started at 7:58am) and used the button sequence several people mentioned here. It took me 31 calls over two days, but I finally got through! The rep was actually really understanding once I explained my situation, and they rescheduled me for just 2 days later. One thing I wish I'd known beforehand - they asked if I preferred morning or afternoon slots, so definitely think about your preferences before calling. Also, the rep mentioned that having a legitimate conflict (like medical appointments, family emergencies, work obligations) makes the rescheduling process much smoother than just wanting a more convenient time. This community is amazing for sharing real experiences with EDD's system. The persistence really does pay off, even though it's incredibly frustrating. Thanks to everyone who shares these strategies - it makes such a difference for people like me who are new to navigating this system!
