Moving money from EDD Money Network card to bank account - transfer time?
So I just got my first unemployment payment loaded onto my EDD Money Network card yesterday (after 6 weeks of waiting!). I really need to pay my rent ASAP and I'd rather transfer the funds to my regular checking account instead of using the card directly. Has anyone done this? How exactly do I set up the transfer and how many days does it take for the money to actually show up in my bank account? My landlord's getting impatient and I need to know if I should just withdraw cash instead. Thanks!

Yes you can transfer money from your EDD card to your bank account! I do it for every payment. Just go to the Money Network website (moneynetwork.com) or download their app, create an account if you haven't already, and set up your bank info. You need your routing number and account number. The first transfer can take 3-5 business days because they're verifying your account. After that, transfers typically take 1-2 business days in my experience. Much better than paying those ATM fees!

•Thank you! Do I need to verify micro-deposits like with Venmo or is it faster than that? Also, is there a limit to how much I can transfer at once?

•This is actually incorrect information. The transfer time depends on Money Network's processing AND your bank - not just your bank. I've had transfers take different amounts of time to the same bank account. Sometimes 1 day, sometimes 3.

I work at a financial services company, so let me clarify how these transfers work: 1. Log into your Money Network account (create one if you haven't) 2. Go to "Transfer Funds" or similar option 3. Enter your bank's routing number and your account number 4. Specify the amount to transfer Important timing details: - First-time transfers require bank verification which can take 1-3 additional business days - Standard transfers typically process in 1-3 business days - Transfers initiated after 4pm PT or on weekends/holidays start processing the next business day - There's typically a daily transfer limit of $5,000 and monthly limit of $10,000 If your landlord needs payment immediately, you might want to use the card directly or withdraw cash from an in-network ATM (check the app for fee-free ATMs).

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll probably do a combination - withdraw some cash for my landlord now and set up the bank transfer for future payments. Do you know if there's a fee for the transfer to my bank?

when I had my EDD card I just took all the money out at once from an ATM so I didn't have to deal with transfers and waiting. find a bank ATM on the list of fee-free ones and you can usually take out $1000 per day. easier than messing with transfers IMO

I gave up trying to transfer from my EDD card because it was so frustrating. I spent HOURS trying to get through to someone at Money Network because my transfers kept failing. Their customer service is as bad as EDD's - always busy signals or disconnections. After wasting days trying to reach someone, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me through to an actual person at EDD who helped fix my card issues. They have this system that gets you past the busy signals - check out their demo video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Money Network finally fixed whatever was blocking my transfers, and now they go through in about 2 business days consistently. The service was worth it to stop the headache.

•I've had trouble getting through to Money Network too! It's crazy how hard it is to talk to anyone about your own money. I might check this out if I run into issues. Thanks for the tip!

Another option is setting up direct deposit for future payments so they go straight to your bank account without the card middleman. You can change this in your UI Online account under "Payment Preferences." Won't help for money already on your card, but makes things easier going forward. For your current funds, bank transfers from Money Network typically take 2-3 business days in my experience, but I've seen some take up to 5 days depending on when you initiate the transfer and your bank's processing times.

Just a heads up - I tried to transfer my entire EDD balance ($5,400) at once and got an error message saying I exceeded the daily limit. Had to do two separate transfers. Also make sure the name on your bank account EXACTLY matches your EDD claim name or they might reject the transfer. I had to deal with that headache because my bank account has my middle initial and my EDD claim didn't.

•Oh that's a good point about the name matching! My bank has my maiden name and I filed EDD with my married name. Maybe I should just use the ATM method until I can update everything. Thanks for the warning!

I've been through this exact situation! For your immediate rent payment, I'd recommend withdrawing cash from a fee-free ATM since you need it ASAP. You can find the ATM locator in the Money Network app or website - there are usually plenty of options at major banks and some grocery stores. For the bank transfer setup, it's pretty straightforward but definitely takes time. The first transfer will likely take 3-5 business days because they verify your account with small test deposits. After that initial setup, regular transfers are usually 1-2 business days. One thing I learned the hard way - make sure you initiate transfers before 4pm Pacific time on business days, otherwise it doesn't start processing until the next day. And definitely switch to direct deposit for future payments like Emma mentioned - it'll save you all this hassle going forward! Since your landlord is already impatient, I'd grab the cash today and set up the bank transfer for next time. Good luck!

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I was stressing about the timing but your approach makes total sense - get cash now for rent and set up the transfer for future payments. Quick question though - do you remember if there were any fees for the ATM withdrawals? I want to make sure I withdraw enough to cover any fees plus my rent amount.

•@f3e2e4708cad ATM fees depend on which ATM you use! If you stick to the fee-free network ATMs (check the Money Network app), there's no fee from Money Network's side. But some ATMs might still charge their own fee - usually $2-3. I always look for Bank of America or Wells Fargo ATMs since they're usually free with the EDD card. Also heads up - most ATMs have a daily withdrawal limit of $1000, so if your rent is higher you might need to do multiple days or combine with a smaller bank transfer.

I just went through this same process last month! Here's what worked for me: For immediate needs like rent, definitely go the ATM route first. Use the Money Network app to find fee-free ATMs near you - I found several at CVS and Walgreens that didn't charge extra fees. You can typically withdraw up to $1000 per day. For the bank transfer setup, log into moneynetwork.com and add your bank account info. The first transfer does take longer (3-5 business days) because they need to verify your account, but it's worth setting up for future payments. After verification, transfers usually take 1-2 business days. Pro tip: While you're dealing with this payment, definitely switch to direct deposit in your UI Online account for future payments. Go to "Payment Method" and change it from the EDD card to direct deposit to your bank. This way you won't have to deal with the card transfer delays again. Also make sure the name on your bank account matches exactly what's on your EDD claim - even middle initials matter or the transfer could get rejected. Hope this helps and congrats on finally getting your payment!

•This is such great advice, thank you! I'm definitely going to hit up a CVS ATM today to get cash for rent, and then set up the bank transfer for next time. Really appreciate the tip about switching to direct deposit too - I had no idea I could do that in UI Online. Will definitely make that change so I don't have to deal with this card hassle again. Thanks for taking the time to write out all these details!

I went through this exact same situation a few months ago! Here's what I learned: For your immediate rent situation, definitely go the ATM route since you need cash ASAP. Use the Money Network app to find fee-free ATMs - there are tons at major banks like Chase, BofA, and Wells Fargo. You can withdraw up to $1000/day at most ATMs. For bank transfers, yes you can do them through the Money Network website or app. You'll need your routing and account numbers. The catch is that the FIRST transfer takes 3-5 business days because they verify your account with micro-deposits. After that verification, regular transfers are much faster - usually 1-2 business days. Since your landlord is already impatient, I'd suggest: 1. Get cash from a fee-free ATM today for rent 2. Set up the bank transfer now so it's ready for your next payment 3. Switch to direct deposit in your UI Online account under "Payment Method" so future payments go straight to your bank One important note - make sure the name on your bank account matches EXACTLY what's on your EDD claim (including middle initials) or the transfer might get rejected. The waiting sucks but you're almost there! Good luck with your landlord!

•This is really solid advice! I'm in a similar situation right now - just got my first payment after what felt like forever. Quick question though - when you say the name needs to match exactly, does that include things like "Jr." or "Sr."? My EDD claim has my full name with "Jr." but I'm not sure if my bank account does. Should I check that before trying to set up the transfer?
