Missing EDD Customer Account Number (EDDCAN) stopping benefits - need help finding it
I'm at my wits' end trying to help my boyfriend with his unemployment claim! He's been certifying regularly but now there's an issue with his EDD Customer Account Number (EDDCAN). We've emailed EDD requesting they send the 10-digit EDDCAN but haven't heard back in over a week. His payments are pending and we're getting worried. Has anyone dealt with this before? Where can we find this number if it's not on any of his paperwork? Is there somewhere in UI Online where it might be listed? Getting desperate since rent is coming up soon!

The EDDCAN should be on his initial award letter that EDD sent when his claim was first approved. It's usually the 10-digit number at the top right corner of most EDD correspondence. If he can't find any paperwork, he should be able to see it when he logs into UI Online under the 'Claim Summary' section. Sometimes it's labeled as 'EDD Customer Account Number' or just 'Account Number.

•Thank you! We'll look through his emails again for that initial award letter. He's been checking UI Online but couldn't find it in the Claim Summary. Is it possible they never assigned him one? His claim was approved and he's been getting paid for 2 months before this issue started.

•Thanks, we'll definitely do another search through all his mail. He might have overlooked it thinking it was just another notice.

The EDDCAN is absolutely critical for your boyfriend's claim. It's a unique identifier that EDD uses to track all aspects of his unemployment case. Without it, certain actions on his claim might be restricted. A few places to check: 1. The award letter (as mentioned) 2. Any payment details or history documents 3. Some notices about certification or eligibility 4. The letter containing his EDD debit card (if he got one) If he truly can't find it anywhere, he needs to speak directly with an EDD representative. Unfortunately, as you've discovered, email responses can take weeks or might never come. Calling is usually more effective.

•We've been trying to call for days but can't get through - either get disconnected immediately or stuck on hold forever. Is there any trick to actually reaching a human at EDD?

This EDDCAN thing is so frustrating! The EXACT same thing happened to me last year. I swear EDD makes everything complicated on purpose!! I ended up finding mine on a random notice about work search requirements that I almost threw away. Check EVERYTHING even if it seems unimportant.

If you still can't find the EDDCAN and need to speak with EDD urgently, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It helped me get through to an EDD representative when I was in a similar situation with a missing number on my claim. The service connects you with EDD without you having to keep redialing or wait on hold for hours. I was skeptical at first but got through to EDD in about 20 minutes. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thanks for the suggestion! At this point we're willing to try anything. I'll check out that video. Did they ask for your EDDCAN when you finally got through to them?

•That's not entirely accurate. While you don't need the EDDCAN for regular certification, it IS required for certain claim actions and troubleshooting. If EDD is specifically requesting the EDDCAN number (as appears to be happening in this case), then there's likely an identity verification or claim specificity issue that needs to be resolved. The system might be flagging the claim for additional verification.

Have your boyfriend check his spam folder NOW! EDD emails often go there. I had a similar problem and found THREE important EDD emails in my spam - one had my EDDCAN. Also, if he has access to UI Online, try going to the "Contact EDD" section and see if past messages from them are stored there - sometimes they include the EDDCAN in those communications.

•OMG thank you!!! We just checked his spam folder and found an email from 2 months ago with the EDDCAN in it!! Going to update his claim information now. Can't believe it was sitting there this whole time. THANK YOU!!

Great news! After he updates his claim with the EDDCAN, make sure he keeps that number in a safe place for future reference. I recommend creating a dedicated folder (physical or digital) for all EDD correspondence. It saves so much stress when issues come up later. Also, now that you've found it, expect the pending payments to process within 2-3 business days. If they don't change status by then, that might indicate there's another issue with the claim besides the missing EDDCAN.

•Thanks for the advice! He's definitely going to create a special folder for all EDD stuff going forward. Fingers crossed the payments process soon - we'll update here if we run into any more problems.

So glad you found it in the spam folder! This is such a common issue - EDD emails get filtered out by spam filters all the time. For anyone else reading this thread, it's worth setting up a filter or rule in your email to automatically move emails from @edd.ca.gov to your main inbox. Also, if you're still having trouble finding your EDDCAN, try looking at any correspondence about overpayments, disqualifications, or appeals - those letters almost always include it since they need to reference your specific account. The number format is usually something like 1234567890 (10 digits) and might be labeled as "EDD Customer Account Number," "EDDCAN," or sometimes just "Account Number" depending on which form you're looking at.

•This is such helpful advice! I wish I had known about setting up the email filter earlier - would have saved us so much stress. The spam folder tip really saved the day here. I'm definitely going to share this thread with other people I know who might be dealing with EDD issues. It's crazy how something so important can get buried in spam. Thanks to everyone who helped out!

This is such a great success story! I'm so happy you found the EDDCAN in the spam folder - that's honestly the first place I tell people to check now when they have EDD issues. I went through something similar last year and it's amazing how much stress one missing number can cause. For future reference, you can also find your EDDCAN on the EDD debit card letter they send (if you opted for the card instead of direct deposit). It's usually printed right below your name on that correspondence. Hope his payments clear quickly now that you've got everything sorted out!
