Lost EDD appeal paperwork - need correct mailing address ASAP

I really messed up! I received my disqualification notice last week and decided to appeal, but I somehow lost the return envelope with the mailing address on it. I've already filled out all the appeal paperwork but have no idea where to send it. When I look online, there seem to be different EDD office addresses, and I'm terrified of sending it to the wrong place and missing my appeal deadline (which is in 5 days!!!). Has anyone gone through the appeal process recently who could tell me the correct address? Or is there a way to look up which specific office is handling my claim? I'm in the San Diego area if that matters. Getting really anxious about this!

This happened to me 2 months ago! The address depends on which office issued your disqualification. Check the top left corner of your disqualification notice - it should have the specific office name. Most appeals go to the EDD Appeals Division at PO Box 120831, San Diego, CA 92112-0831 if you're in SD area. But double-check by calling them because sending to wrong address = missed deadline = appeal denied.

Thank you!!! I just checked my disqualification letter and you're right - it does have an office name on it (Office of Appeals in San Diego). So relieved. Do you think regular mail is okay or should I send it certified?

Thanks for the tip! I only have 5 days left so I'm definitely cutting it close. Will check for that form right now.

The correct mailing address should be on your Notice of Determination that you're appealing. If you lost that too, you need to call EDD immediately to confirm the correct Appeals Office address. Each regional office has a different mailing address, and sending it to the wrong one could delay your appeal being processed. I strongly recommend sending it via certified mail with return receipt so you have proof it was sent before the deadline. The appeals board is very strict about the 30-day timeline and rarely grants extensions. You can also check if your UI Online account shows which office is handling your claim under the "Contact Information" section. Some notices will tell you to mail to the office that made the determination, while others go directly to the CUIAB Appeals Board.

I still have the determination letter but just lost the return envelope. I've been trying to call EDD for 2 days but keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up. So frustrating!

If you're struggling to get through to EDD on the phone (which is super common), I'd recommend checking out Claimyr. It helped me get through to an EDD rep when I was in a similar situation with an appeal deadline looming. They basically hold your place in line and call you when they connect with an agent. Saved me hours of redial frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that explains how it works. When I finally got through, the EDD rep confirmed my appeal address and even gave me the name of the specific person to address it to.

Did you actually get a human at EDD using that service? I've been trying for WEEKS to talk to someone about my appeal!

Yes, I got through in about 25 minutes. The key is they call you once they have an agent on the line. No more endless redial cycles or waiting on hold forever.

EDD is such a DISASTER!! I went through this EXACT same problem in February. Lost the envelope, couldn't get through on the phone, website was USELESS, and missed my appeal deadline by 2 days. You know what happened? They REJECTED my appeal for being late even though I explained the situation!!! I had to file a LATE appeal which took ANOTHER 45 days to process!!! DON'T make my mistake - send it CERTIFIED MAIL to the address on your determination letter and TAKE PICTURES of everything before you mail it!!!! The address should be for the CUIAB office that covers your region. Also make COPIES of everything you send!!!

Oh no, that sounds terrible! I definitely don't want to go through all that. I'll definitely send it certified and take pictures of everything. Thanks for the warning!

i think most appeals go to sacramento office not san diego. my cousin had to appeal last year and she sent it to sacramento even tho she lives in LA

This isn't correct. Appeals go to the CUIAB office specified in your determination letter. There are multiple offices throughout California (Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, Oakland, etc.). Sending it to the wrong office could cause delays or even result in a missed deadline. Always check your determination letter for the correct address.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your help! I was able to get through to EDD (finally) and confirmed the address is the San Diego CUIAB office. I'm mailing my appeal packet tomorrow via certified mail with return receipt. The rep also said I could drop it off in person at their office if I'm worried about mail delays, which I might do since my deadline is so close. I took pictures of everything and made copies as suggested. Fingers crossed this goes smoothly!

Great news! In-person is definitely the safest option when you're close to a deadline. They'll give you a date-stamped receipt that proves you submitted on time. Good luck with your appeal!

SMART move going in person!!! Make sure they STAMP your copy with the date received!!!

So glad you were able to get through to EDD and confirm the correct address! That's such a relief when you're cutting it close to the deadline. Definitely go with the in-person drop-off option if you can - it's the most secure way to ensure your appeal is received on time. I had a similar situation with a different government office and the peace of mind from getting that date-stamped receipt was worth the extra trip. Make sure to bring multiple copies so you can keep one for your records. Best of luck with your appeal process!
