How to cancel EDD account? Need help getting through to an agent!
Hey everyone, I need to cancel my EDD account but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone done this before? What's the best way to get in touch with them? I've been trying to call but no luck so far. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I had to do this last year. You definitely need to speak with an agent directly. When you get through, just tell them you want to close your account. They'll walk you through the steps. Good luck getting someone on the phone though, it can be a real pain!

•Ugh, tell me about it. I spent like 3 days trying to get through last month. The hold times are insane!

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through in only 20 minutes that way!

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to make a phone call.

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

Make sure you have all your account info ready when you call. They'll probably ask for your SSN, claim ID, and maybe some other details to verify your identity.

Honestly, the whole EDD system is such a mess. You'd think they'd make it easier to manage our accounts online. But noooo, gotta waste hours on the phone for every little thing. 🙄

Here's a detailed guide on canceling your EDD account: 1. Gather all necessary information (SSN, claim ID, etc.) 2. Call the EDD customer service line 3. Navigate the phone menu to reach an agent 4. Clearly state your intention to close the account 5. Follow the agent's instructions 6. Ask for a confirmation number or email 7. Keep records of the call (date, time, agent name) Remember, patience is key. You might need to try multiple times to get through. Good luck!

•Great advice! I'd add: make sure to ask if there's any pending payments or issues before closing. You don't want to leave money on the table!

Just went through this process myself a few months ago! One thing I wish someone had told me - make sure you don't have any pending certifications or overpayments before you close the account. I almost closed mine and then realized I had a small overpayment that needed to be resolved first. The agent was super helpful about walking me through everything once I finally got connected. Also, if you have direct deposit set up, they'll ask if you want to keep that info on file in case you ever need to reopen a claim in the future. Hope this helps and congrats on the new job! 🎉

•This is really valuable info! I didn't even think about checking for overpayments first. Thanks for sharing your experience - definitely going to make sure everything is squared away before I call to close it.

Another tip that helped me - if you're having trouble getting through on the main customer service line, try calling the disability insurance number and ask them to transfer you. Sometimes those lines have shorter wait times! Also, definitely keep calling back if you get disconnected - I know it's frustrating but persistence really pays off with EDD. And once you do get through, be super polite to the agent even if you've been waiting forever. They deal with frustrated people all day and a little kindness goes a long way in getting good help!

•That's a brilliant tip about calling the disability line first! Never would have thought of that. And you're so right about being nice to the agents - they're probably dealing with stressed people all day long. Thanks for the insider knowledge! 😊

Hey Ethan! I actually just went through this same process a couple months back when I started my new position. One thing that really helped me was calling right at 8:00 AM sharp - literally had my phone ready to dial at 7:59 and hit call exactly at 8. Got through in about 15 minutes which felt like a miracle! Also, when you do get an agent on the line, they'll likely ask if you want to "deactivate" vs "close" your account - make sure you're clear about what you want. Deactivating keeps it dormant but you can reopen it easily if needed, while closing it completely removes everything. Since you mentioned you got a new job, closing is probably what you want, but just wanted to give you the heads up so you're not caught off guard by the question. Good luck with both the call and the new gig! 🍀

•This is such great advice, thank you! I had no idea there was a difference between deactivating and closing the account - that's exactly the kind of detail I needed to know. I'll definitely try the 8 AM sharp strategy tomorrow. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!
