EDD showing $0 weekly benefit despite recent high earnings - Alternate Base Period?
Hey everyone, I'm freaking out. I just filed for unemployment and EDD is saying my weekly benefit amount is $0. This doesn't make any sense because I made good money in the last 3 months. Has anyone dealt with this before? I heard something about an alternate base period - should I try that? Any advice would be appreciated!

I found a way to solve EDD $0 unemployment benefit issue, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L9x9Iyz33k

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. š I've been there, buddy. The alternate base period might be your best bet. It lets them look at your more recent earnings instead of the standard base period. You'll need to request it specifically though - they won't do it automatically.

ā¢Thanks for the quick reply! Do you know how I go about requesting the alternate base period? Is there a specific form or do I just call them?

ā¢You'll need to contact them directly. Good luck getting through tho - their phone lines are always jammed. š© Maybe try early in the morning?

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

ā¢Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

ā¢Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

ā¢I've used it twice now. Worked both times. Beats calling 100 times a day for weeks š¤·āāļø

Make sure you double-check the dates they're using for your base period. Sometimes they mess up and use outdated info. If you've had any gaps in employment or changes in income, that could affect things too. Dont give up - keep pushing until you get what you're owed!

The EDD system is so broken, I swear. 𤬠I've been dealing with similar issues for months. It's like they're trying to make it as difficult as possible for people who actually need help. Hang in there, OP. Don't let them wear you down.

Here's what you need to know about the alternate base period (ABP): ⢠The standard base period uses your earnings from months 2-5 before you filed ⢠The ABP uses your most recent completed quarter ⢠You have to specifically request the ABP - it's not automatic ⢠If you qualify under the standard period, they won't use the ABP ⢠It can take a few weeks to process an ABP request To request it, call the EDD or send a message through your UI Online account. Be persistent - you might need to follow up multiple times. Good luck!

ā¢Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! This is exactly what I needed. I'll definitely request the ABP and see what happens.

I'm in the same boat, OP. Filed 3 weeks ago, still showing $0. This whole process is so frustrating. Let us know if you make any progress!

I went through this exact same situation last year! Turns out EDD was using the wrong quarters for my base period calculation. What helped me was gathering all my pay stubs and W-2s from the most recent quarters before I filed, then submitting a request for them to recalculate using the alternate base period. It took about 4-6 weeks, but they eventually corrected it and I got backpay for all the weeks I should have been receiving benefits. Don't let them discourage you - if you earned good money recently, you're likely entitled to benefits. Document everything and keep following up!

ā¢This is super helpful! Thank you for sharing your experience. 4-6 weeks feels like forever when you need the money, but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel. Did you have to submit the pay stubs through the UI Online portal or mail them in? And do you remember if they automatically gave you the backpay once they corrected it, or did you have to request that separately?
