EDD payment delay after final certification - still pending after 48 hours
I certified for my last week of benefits on Sunday around 10pm, but I still haven't received my payment (it's now Wednesday). Every other time, the money has hit my Bank of America card by Tuesday morning at the latest. Since this is my final payment on my claim, I'm getting worried something's wrong. My UI Online account just shows 'paid' status since yesterday morning, but no money has been transferred. Is there a longer processing time for final payments? Has anyone else experienced delays with their last certification? I have bills due Friday and was counting on this payment...

Final payments sometimes take an extra day or two because EDD does an additional review. As long as your UI Online shows 'paid' status, you should be fine. The money will likely hit your account by tomorrow morning. If you don't see it by Friday, that's when I'd start to worry.

•Thank you! That's reassuring. Do you know if I need to do anything else after the final payment? Like officially close my claim or anything?

•That's good to know it's not just me! Did you get any kind of notification when your claim was completely finished?

Are you sure it's actually your last payment? Check your claim balance on UI Online. Sometimes people think it's their last payment but actually have a remaining balance that requires a phone call to access. Also, if you have any outstanding issues (like identity verification or eligibility interviews), that could hold up your last payment. They're extra strict with final payments!

•I checked and my balance is $0 after this payment. And I don't have any pending issues showing on my account. It just says paid but the money isn't there yet... getting nervous.

If your UI Online shows 'paid' status then the money is coming, it's just a matter of when the transfer completes. Bank of America sometimes holds EDD transfers for 24-48 hours for "verification" which is completely ridiculous since it's a government payment. If you're really worried though, you should call EDD directly to confirm everything is fine with your claim. I know it's nearly impossible to get through on their regular line, but I've had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an agent. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km It's worth it for peace of mind, especially when it's your final payment and you're waiting on money for bills.

•Thanks for the recommendation. If I don't see the payment by tomorrow I'll definitely try that. The wait times are ridiculous when you call normally.

THE EXACT SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!!!!! Last week was my final certification too, and I certified Sunday night but still no money in my account even though UI Online switched to paid status yesterday morning. This is so FRUSTRATING!! I have rent due and my landlord doesn't care about EDD delays!!

For future reference (or for others reading this thread), final payments do sometimes have a slightly longer processing time. The Bank of America EDD debit cards are actually being phased out in favor of the new Money Network Direct Payment card over the next year, so transfer times might be a bit unpredictable. But as others mentioned, as long as your UI Online status says "paid," the money is on its way. Also, once your claim is exhausted, you might receive a notification about filing a new claim if your benefit year hasn't ended, or about potential extensions if those are available (though currently in 2025, standard extensions aren't being offered).

•Thank you for that additional info about the Money Network cards - I had no idea they were replacing the BofA ones. Thankfully my payment did come through finally!

•It depends on your payment method. Direct deposit to your bank account is usually 1-2 business days after status changes to "paid". Bank of America EDD debit cards typically 1-2 days as well. The newer Money Network cards are supposed to be faster but some people report delays with those too. If you're consistently waiting 3-4 days, you might want to check if there's an issue with your account or payment method.

Glad to see your payment finally came through! This is actually pretty common with final payments - EDD does seem to add an extra layer of processing time, probably to make sure everything is squared away before closing out the claim. For anyone else reading this thread who might be in a similar situation, the key indicator is that "paid" status in UI Online. Once that shows up, the money is definitely coming, it's just a matter of the banking systems catching up. And yeah, those wait times for EDD phone support are absolutely brutal - definitely worth looking into services like Claimyr if you need to get through quickly for peace of mind.

•Thanks for the helpful summary! As someone new to this whole unemployment process, this thread has been super educational. I'm getting close to my final weeks too and was wondering what to expect. It's good to know that the "paid" status is the reliable indicator, even if the actual money transfer takes a bit longer. Also appreciate all the mentions of Claimyr - I had no idea there were services to help get through to EDD faster. Definitely bookmarking that for future reference since I've heard horror stories about those wait times!

This is such a helpful thread! I'm currently on my second-to-last week of benefits and was already starting to worry about what to expect with the final payment. Reading everyone's experiences here really puts things in perspective - it sounds like the extra processing time for final payments is totally normal, even if stressful when you're waiting on the money. The fact that multiple people experienced the same delay with their last certification but everything worked out fine is really reassuring. I'm definitely going to keep the Claimyr recommendation in mind too, just in case I run into any issues. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - this community is so valuable for navigating all the EDD quirks!

•Absolutely agree! I'm new to unemployment benefits myself and was honestly pretty anxious about the whole process, especially since I keep hearing conflicting information from different sources. This thread has been like a masterclass in what to actually expect with EDD payments. It's so reassuring to see real people sharing their actual timelines and experiences rather than just the vague official information on the EDD website. The consensus seems to be that as long as your account shows "paid," you're good to go even if it takes a few extra days. I'm definitely saving this thread for reference when I get to my final weeks. Thanks everyone for being so open about sharing your experiences - it makes such a difference for those of us trying to navigate this system!

This thread is so timely for me! I'm actually on my very last week of benefits and just certified yesterday evening. After reading everyone's experiences here, I feel much more prepared for what to expect. It sounds like the key takeaway is that final payments can take 2-3 days instead of the usual 1-2 days, but as long as the UI Online status shows "paid," the money will definitely come through. I really appreciate everyone sharing their actual timelines - it's so much more helpful than the generic info on the EDD website. I'm bookmarking this thread and will definitely update if I experience any delays with my final payment. The Claimyr recommendation is also gold - I had no idea there were services to help skip those insane EDD hold times. Thanks to this community for always having each other's backs during these stressful times!

•This community really is amazing for navigating EDD! I just went through my final certification a few weeks ago and had the exact same experience - that extra day or two of waiting was nerve-wracking even though logically I knew it would come through. One thing I'll add is that after your final payment processes, don't be surprised if you don't get any official "your claim is closed" notification. Mine just quietly ended and I stopped receiving the certification emails. It felt a bit anticlimactic after months of the routine! But yeah, definitely keep this thread handy for peace of mind during those final weeks. Good luck with your last payment!

This whole thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm currently in the middle of my claim and seeing everyone's experiences with final payments is really valuable information for when I get there. It's reassuring to know that the 2-3 day delay for final payments is normal and that the "paid" status in UI Online is the reliable indicator to trust. The Claimyr recommendation keeps coming up too - I'm definitely going to remember that for future reference since I've already experienced those brutal EDD hold times firsthand. Thanks to everyone for sharing their real experiences and timelines. This community is such a lifesaver for navigating all the EDD quirks and uncertainties!
