EDD payment stuck in 'Outstanding' status after certification - help needed

I've been on regular UI since January after my company downsized our whole department. Everything was going smoothly until this week. I certified on Sunday as usual, but my payment still hasn't processed. When I check UI Online, it shows my certification as 'outstanding' instead of 'paid' like normal. No explanation given! My previous certifications always switched to paid status within 24 hours. It's now Wednesday and I'm starting to worry because rent is due next week. Does 'outstanding' mean there's a problem with my claim? Has anyone experienced this before? How long does this status typically last? I haven't received any notifications or messages in my UI Online inbox about issues with my claim.

Outstanding status usually means there's a flag on your claim that requires review. Did you report any earnings on your last certification? Or answer any questions differently than usual? Even small changes can trigger a manual review. It could also be that you're approaching the end of your benefit year and they're doing a routine check. In my experience, these reviews typically take 7-10 business days to clear if there are no actual issues.

Thanks for the quick response. I did pick up a one-day gig last week that I reported on my certification (only $185), but I've reported earnings before without issues. I guess that could be it? My benefit year isn't ending until next January though. I really can't wait 7-10 days... any way to speed this up?

the same thing happened 2 me last month!! mine was stuck 4 like 6 days then suddenly changed to paid. didnt do anything special just waited it out. EDD does random stuff sometimes lol

Six days??? I really hope mine doesn't take that long. Did they backpay you for the waiting period? This is stressing me out...

Outstanding status literally means your certification is outstanding—not processed yet. This happens for several reasons: 1. Reported earnings that need verification 2. Quarterly review of your claim (happens automatically) 3. Random eligibility check 4. System delays (rare but happens) Try calling EDD first thing tomorrow morning (8:01 AM exactly) to find out the specific reason. If there's an issue, speaking with a tier 2 specialist can often resolve it immediately. Don't wait if you need the money soon.

This is good advice, but calling right at 8:01 AM rarely works anymore because EVERYONE tries that time. EDD's phone system gets overwhelmed within seconds. I've been trying for three days using the redial method and can't get through. If you need to speak with someone quickly, I'd recommend Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a system that calls EDD for you and connects you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of redialing last month when I had a similar payment delay. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

u have to call them!!! this is what edd does all the time they put random holds on accounts. my sister in law works for them and says their system flags like 20% of all certifications randomly for review even when nothings wrong!!

Really? That's so frustrating! I've been calling the 800 number all day and can't get through. Just keeps saying they're experiencing high call volumes and hangs up. Do you know if there's a better number to try?

Just to share my experience - I had this happen twice during my claim. First time was because I reported some part-time work. Second time was completely random with no changes to my certification. The first took 8 days to resolve, the second only took 3 days. They never explained why it happened either time, just suddenly changed to paid. The whole system is so inconsistent! I feel your stress about rent coming up - I was in the same boat.

After seeing your update about trying to call, I'd say don't waste more time with the general number. I tried for a week straight once and never got through. The Claimyr service I mentioned earlier is what finally worked. Got connected to an agent in about 45 minutes. The agent told me my payment was stuck because of a quarterly wage review (they compare your reported earnings to what employers report). Once I talked to someone, they cleared it immediately and my payment processed the next day.

Just checked out that website and video. I've never heard of this service before but I'm desperate at this point. Anything is better than this redialing nightmare. Going to try it now - I'll update if I get through to someone!

OUTSTANDING means your certification aint processed yet and ur BEST BET is to call edd ASAP!!! don't listen to people saying wait it out! i waited 3 weeks once and the money never came until i finally got thru to someone who fixed it in 2 minutes!!! the system is BROKEN!!! good luck getting thru tho, they hang up on everyone!!!!

UPDATE: I got through to EDD! Used that Claimyr service and it worked exactly like the video showed. Got connected to a tier 2 specialist after about 35 minutes of waiting. The rep said my certification had been flagged for review because of the part-time work I reported, but it was just sitting in a queue waiting to be processed. She was able to verify my reported earnings and release the payment right away! The status just changed to 'paid' in my account. Thanks everyone for your help. Definitely call if this happens to you - waiting it out might work eventually, but talking to someone fixed it immediately.

Great news! This is exactly why it's important to be proactive with EDD issues. Their automated systems flag things all the time, but speaking with a tier 2 specialist can almost always resolve these routine holds. Glad you got it sorted out before rent was due.
