EDD payment delay - Was there a system issue with March payments?

I'm freaking out a bit right now. My regular UI payment was supposed to hit my Money Network card yesterday according to my portal (shows as PAID), but nothing's in my account yet! This has never happened before - payments usually post right on time. I certified on Sunday as usual and everything looked normal. Has anyone else experienced a delay with their March payments? Is the system glitching or should I be worried something's wrong with my claim? I've got rent due on Friday and really counting on this money.

You're not alone! EDD is having some payment processing delays this week. I called them this morning using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through in about 10 minutes. The rep told me there was a system update that caused a batch processing delay affecting people who certified Sunday. Most payments should post by tomorrow. You can check out their video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Saved me hours of busy signals!

Omg thank you for letting me know! So relieved it's not just me. I've been refreshing my account like crazy. I'll wait until tomorrow before panicking. Did they say exactly when the payments would post?

Before assuming it's games, remember the EDD processes millions of payments. Sometimes technical issues happen. Based on previous delays, payments usually catch up within 24-48 hours. If you don't see it by Friday, then I'd recommend calling. The 1-2 day delay happens occasionally during their quarterly maintenance periods.

This happens every few months. There's actually a pattern to it - seems like the first payment period after quarter-end often has delays. It's because EDD runs their quarterly system maintenance and sometimes the payment processing gets backed up. I've been on UI for 7 months now and have seen this twice before. The money always shows up, sometimes it just takes an extra 1-2 business days. One tip: if you set up direct deposit instead of using Money Network, you sometimes get payments faster. The card processing adds an extra step that can get delayed.

honestly i hate that stupid Money Network card anyway. my last one got stolen from my mailbox and it took 3 weeks to get a replacement! switched to direct deposit after that nightmare

I had the same issue but mine literally just showed up about an hour ago! I certified Sunday morning around 8am. Check your account again, maybe yours is in now too? The transaction date still shows yesterday even though it actually posted today.

Just checked again and still nothing 😞 What time zone are you in? I'm in PST, wondering if they're rolling them out gradually?

When did you certify on Sunday? I've noticed that certifying early in the morning vs late at night can affect when the payment hits. I always certify right at midnight and my payments usually come through faster than my roommate who certifies in the afternoon.

I certified around 2pm on Sunday. Never had an issue before with that timing. Does it really make a difference? Maybe I'll try certifying at midnight next time!

This is a known issue right now. There was an announcement in small print at the bottom of the UI Online homepage about payment processing delays due to a system upgrade. The announcement states that payments certified on 3/10 through 3/12 may experience a 24-48 hour delay in processing. If you don't see your payment by Friday, call the customer service line. They've extended hours this week to handle questions about the delay. Make sure your contact information is up to date in the system, as they may be sending out text alerts about the situation. Also, double-check that your payment method hasn't changed - sometimes after quarterly reviews, payment preferences can reset to default.

Thank you! I completely missed that announcement. I never scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. Will check for my payment tomorrow and call if it's still not there by Friday.

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with EDD. They confirmed there was a processing delay due to quarterly system maintenance. All delayed payments should be released by tomorrow morning. The representative said if you don't see your payment by tomorrow afternoon, then call in because it might indicate a different issue with your specific claim.

Thanks for the update! Just checked and my payment finally posted! Such a relief. I guess I'll know not to panic next time if there's a short delay after the end of a quarter.

This is exactly why I always keep a small emergency fund even when on UI - these random delays happen more often than people think! I've been dealing with EDD for over a year now and I've learned that quarterly maintenance periods (March, June, September, December) almost always cause some kind of hiccup. The good news is they're usually pretty quick to resolve it. For future reference, if you follow EDD on social media they sometimes post about these delays there before updating the website. Also, if you have the Money Network app, sometimes the payment shows up there before it actually posts to your card balance.
