EDD not paying backpay after winning appeal - judge didn't specify date. What to do next?

I won my appeal for unemployment benefits and the judge granted me backpay, but EDD hasn't paid me yet. They're saying the judge didn't specify a date, which is apparently normal. I talked to an admin judge who said it should've been automatic. Now I'm being told to contact my assembly member. Has anyone else dealt with this? It's so frustrating. I'm owed money all the way back to October and I don't know what to do next. Any advice?

I'd like to offer some advice based on my knowledge and experiences with unemployment systems. It's critical to understand that government agencies like the EDD have a lot of bureaucratic red tape, which can slow down processes significantly. The advice to contact your assembly member could be effective, as they have the ability to escalate your case. Additionally, tools like Claimyr can be helpful, especially if you're finding it impossible to get through on the phone. However, it's essential to weigh the cost against its potential benefit, considering many people report varying levels of success. Ultimately, persistence and patience are key. Document everything, follow up regularly, and remember to take care of your mental health in the meantime. It's a tough journey, but with persistence, you will likely see some progress. Keep advocating for yourself and don't hesitate to seek help from others who have been through similar situations.

EDD is such a joke. They're probably too busy denying legitimate claims to process your backpay. 🤡🤡🤡

It's sad but true. The inefficiency is astonishing.

Contacting your assembly member is actually a good idea. I did that when I was having issues and they helped me resolve it within a week. Don't give up!

Really? That's encouraging. How did you go about contacting them?

Just google "[your area] assembly member" and you should find their contact info. Usually they have a form on their website for constituent services. Fill it out and explain your situation. They have staff dedicated to helping with stuff like this.

Hey, I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

I know it sounds weird, but I swear it's legit. I was desperate and tried it. Got through to a rep in like 2 hours. Worth it for me, but ymmv.

I've heard mixed reviews about Claimyr. Some people say it's a lifesaver, while others think it's not worth the cost.

Have you tried emailing them? Sometimes that works better than calling. Here's a template I used: Subject: Follow-Up on Backpay Issue - Appeal Decision Dear EDD Representative, I am writing to follow up on my unemployment benefits. I won my appeal and was granted backpay by the appeals judge. However, I have not yet received the payments. The administrative judge confirmed that the backpay should have been processed automatically. Despite this, there seems to be an issue with processing my payment from [MONTH] onwards. Please escalate this matter as necessary and provide me with an update on when I can expect to receive my owed benefits. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Best regards, [YOUR NAME] [YOUR EDD CLAIMANT ID] [YOUR CONTACT INFO]

Okay, listen up. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Every call, every email, every letter. Names, dates, times. 2. Keep calling EDD. Yes, it sucks, but persistence pays off. Try different times of day. 3. Definitely contact your assembly member. They can often cut through red tape. 4. File a formal complaint with EDD. Sometimes this kicks things into gear. 5. If all else fails, consider reaching out to local media. Bad press can motivate action. Remember, you're entitled to this money. Don't let them wear you down. Stay strong and keep fighting! 💪

Don't forget to save all your documentation and keep everything organized. It helps if you need to escalate further.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire unemployment system. It's not fit for purpose anymore. We're all suffering because of outdated tech and understaffed offices. 😤

Ugh, classic EDD bs. They always find a way to make things difficult. Have you tried calling them directly? Sometimes you can get lucky and find a helpful rep who can actually do something.

Yeah, I've been trying to call but it's impossible to get through. It's like they don't want us to reach them 🙄

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins of waiting last week. Good luck!

Another tip is to try calling right before they close. Sometimes the wait times are shorter then.

Anyone else think its weird that the judge didn't specify a date? Seems fishy to me. Maybe double check that appeal decision, just in case?

0 coins

-

Malik Johnson

The admin judge I talked to said it's normal for them not to specify a date. Apparently it should be assumed to go back to the original claim date? Idk, it's all so confusing.
