EDD claim stuck in pending since February 11th - no Money Network card received

Filed for unemployment on 2/11 and it's still showing as "Pending" over 3 weeks later. I haven't received any communication from EDD about my claim status, no Money Network card in the mail, nothing at all. My rent is due in 5 days and I literally have $43 to my name. Is anyone else experiencing zero movement on their claims from February? What's frustrating is that my UI Online account doesn't show any issues that need to be resolved, just perpetually stuck on "Pending" with no explanation. I've called multiple times but can't get through to a real person. Starting to panic here...

A month?! I can't wait that long. Did you do anything to get it unstuck or did it just randomly change one day?

EDD is SO BACKED UP right now its RIDICULOUS!!!! I applied Jan 29th and didn't get approved until March 2nd. Over a MONTH with zero communication! Then when I finally got through to someone they said there was a "verification issue" that NOBODY BOTHERED TO TELL ME ABOUT for weeks!!! The system is designed to make people give up I swear.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of - some mysterious "issue" they haven't bothered to tell me about. Did they at least backpay you for all those weeks?

Yeah they did backpay eventually but it took another 2 weeks after approval! The whole time I was borrowing money from family just to survive. Absolutely criminal how they treat people who are already struggling!

There are a few things you should check that might speed things up: 1. Log into UI Online and check your inbox - sometimes they send messages about needed documents without notifying you by email or text 2. Make sure your identity verification through ID.me is complete - many pending claims in 2025 are stuck because of identity verification issues 3. Check if you have any outstanding certification weeks - even though your claim is pending, you should still certify for benefits every two weeks 4. Regarding the Money Network card - they won't send this until your claim is approved and the first payment is processed If everything above is in order, you'll need to speak with an EDD representative to find out exactly what's causing the delay.

Thank you! I've checked my UI Online inbox (empty), completed ID.me verification the day I applied, and certified for both weeks so far. Everything seems to be in order from my end, which makes it even more frustrating.

I went through this exact same situation in January. Applied on the 5th, stuck on pending until February 9th. What worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual EDD rep - www.claimyr.com - they connected me to an agent in under 25 minutes when I had been trying for weeks on my own with no luck. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Turns out there was a flag on my account because my previous employer contested the claim, but nobody had bothered to tell me! The rep fixed it on the spot and my payment went from pending to paid the next day. Money Network card arrived about 7 days after that.

I'm desperate at this point, so I'll try anything. Did you have to explain your situation to an EDD rep or did they immediately see what the problem was with your claim?

The rep could see exactly what was wrong as soon as she pulled up my claim. Apparently there are specific status codes they can see that don't show up in our UI Online accounts. She told me that most pending claims have a specific issue that needs human intervention - they just don't have enough staff to proactively reach out to everyone.

dont forget to keep certifying ur weeks even tho its pending!! my roommate thought she had to wait till it was approved to certify and lost out on 3 weeks of payments bc of that mistake

Thanks for the reminder! I've been certifying each week so far.

Your situation is unfortunately common, but there are specific steps to resolve it. First, as others have mentioned, you should continue certifying every two weeks regardless of pending status. Here's what's likely happening: EDD has a backlog of claims requiring manual review, but they don't inform claimants about this process. In most cases, one of these issues is causing the delay: 1. Income verification discrepancy between what you reported and what your employer reported 2. Separation reason needs clarification (if your employer provided different information than you did) 3. Identity verification queue backlog (even though you completed ID.me) 4. Random selection for additional fraud screening Regarding the Money Network card - EDD only initiates this process after your first payment is approved. The card typically arrives 7-10 business days after your first payment is processed. The most efficient solution is speaking directly with an EDD representative who can see the specific issue and often resolve it during the call. Once resolved, pending payments typically process within 24-48 hours.

Thank you for this detailed explanation. Based on what you're saying, I definitely need to speak with a representative. I'm guessing it might be related to separation reason since my employer and I had different perspectives on why I left.

Good point! Just checked spam and junk folders - nothing from EDD unfortunately. But definitely a smart suggestion.

Quick update question - have you checked if your claim shows any "Reopen" button? Sometimes the system automatically closes claims if you miss responding to something, and the UI doesn't clearly indicate this has happened.

Just checked - no "Reopen" button showing. Everything seems active, just stuck in pending limbo. The dashboard shows my claim as active with the correct benefit year and weekly benefit amount calculated - just no payments processed.

UPDATE????? Did you get yours fixed? Mine just changed from pending to paid today after 5 WEEKS and I didn't even talk to anyone!!!

Update: I used Claimyr yesterday and got through to a representative! Turns out my former employer disputed my reason for separation (I said laid off, they said I quit). The rep scheduled me for a phone interview next week to resolve it. At least now I know why it's stuck! Thanks everyone for your help.
