Freaking out right now! We just had to freeze my Money Network card after someone used it at a McDonalds across town (I was at work!). I'm due to certify this Sunday and I'm worried about what happens next. Bank of America apparently disabled transfers from the EDD cards to checking accounts recently (tried to move money last week but couldn't). If my card stays frozen when my next certification payment hits, will the money still get deposited to the card? Or will it bounce back to EDD? I'm so stressed because that's rent money and I can't afford any delays. Has anyone dealt with this? Do I need to unfreeze before certification or get a replacement card first?
I'm currently in a weird situation and not sure if I'd qualify for unemployment. I've been working two full-time jobs for the past year (yes, I'm exhausted but bills don't pay themselves!). Just found out yesterday that Company A is eliminating my entire department in the next 2-3 weeks - much sooner than the rumors suggested. I'll still have my position at Company B, which is also full-time (40 hrs/week) but pays about 40% less than what I make at Company A. Does anyone know if I can claim partial unemployment benefits for losing one job while still keeping the other? My monthly expenses were manageable with both incomes, but with just Company B's salary, I'm looking at having to dip into savings each month until I find another second job. This reduction is going to hit hard. Has anyone dealt with this dual-employment situation with EDD before? What documentation would they need from both employers? Really appreciate any insights!
One more thing to consider: If you apply and get denied initially, you have the right to appeal the decision. Sometimes the automated system doesn't properly account for unique situations like yours. An appeal gives you the opportunity to explain your case to a judge who can look at your specific circumstances more carefully. Documentation is critical - keep records of all communications regarding the layoff, hours worked at both jobs, pay stubs, and any evidence showing your need for both incomes to meet financial obligations. This can help your case if you need to appeal.
One job is remote with flexible hours (Company B), and the other (Company A that I'm losing) has set shifts. I basically work from 5am-1pm at Company A, then 2pm-10pm at Company B. Weekends are a mix of both. It's been absolutely exhausting but necessary to pay off medical debt and keep up with the increased cost of living. Not sustainable long-term, but I was hoping to do it for another 6 months to build up savings.
Filed for unemployment on 2/11 and it's still showing as "Pending" over 3 weeks later. I haven't received any communication from EDD about my claim status, no Money Network card in the mail, nothing at all. My rent is due in 5 days and I literally have $43 to my name. Is anyone else experiencing zero movement on their claims from February? What's frustrating is that my UI Online account doesn't show any issues that need to be resolved, just perpetually stuck on "Pending" with no explanation. I've called multiple times but can't get through to a real person. Starting to panic here...
Quick update question - have you checked if your claim shows any "Reopen" button? Sometimes the system automatically closes claims if you miss responding to something, and the UI doesn't clearly indicate this has happened.
UPDATE????? Did you get yours fixed? Mine just changed from pending to paid today after 5 WEEKS and I didn't even talk to anyone!!!
Update: I used Claimyr yesterday and got through to a representative! Turns out my former employer disputed my reason for separation (I said laid off, they said I quit). The rep scheduled me for a phone interview next week to resolve it. At least now I know why it's stuck! Thanks everyone for your help.
Just won my appeal hearing where EDD acknowledged I quit with good cause (hostile work environment), but they still marked me as 'ineligible to work' as of March 2025. It's been 6 weeks since this decision letter arrived, but I haven't received any notices about overpayment or repayment requirements. Normally wouldn't complain about NOT getting bills, but I'm anxious about suddenly getting hit with a huge overpayment demand months down the road. Should I have already received something about repayment by now? Or does the 'good cause' finding mean I might not have to repay? The decision letter doesn't mention anything about what happens next. Anyone dealt with this limbo situation before?
my cousin had this happen and ended up having to pay back like $14k!!!!! she got on a payment plan for like $78/month tho so it wasn't too bad
To summarize what you should do: 1. Don't wait passively - contact EDD to check your overpayment status 2. Gather evidence showing you were able and available for work during your claim period 3. Start preparing financial documentation for a potential waiver request 4. Consider appealing the 'ineligible to work' determination if you have evidence 5. Request a payment plan if you do receive an overpayment notice The fact that you won on 'good cause' is positive, but the availability for work issue is separate and equally important for benefit eligibility.
Is anyone else having serious problems with UI Online certification today? I started certifying at 9AM and it's now almost 10:30AM because the system kept crashing and logging me out! I counted TWELVE times where I had to start over completely. I even tried the "save as draft" feature after every single question, but somehow when it crashed, it would still lose my information! I reported my part-time hours correctly and selected "yes" that I looked for work, then BOOM - logged out again. This is getting ridiculous! My bills are due this week and I'm worried my payment will be delayed because of these technical issues. Has this happened to anyone else recently? Is there a better time to certify when the system isn't so glitchy? I'm using Chrome on Windows if that matters.
Just an update for everyone - EDD just posted on their website that they're experiencing higher than normal traffic today, and they recommend certifying during non-peak hours. They're also suggesting using the phone certification system until they resolve the online issues. If anyone's payment gets delayed because of these technical problems, make sure to document everything and call them - they can sometimes expedite payments when the delay was caused by their system issues.

To directly answer your question: Yes, your payment will still deposit to your frozen card. The card freeze only prevents withdrawals and purchases, not deposits. Regarding the bank transfers issue - this is a temporary security measure that Money Network implemented after a spike in fraud cases. It's not affecting all cardholders, but many have reported restrictions. If you need immediate access to your funds while waiting for a replacement card, you have a few options: 1. You can add your Money Network card to a digital wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) and continue using it that way even while the physical card is frozen 2. You can authorize a one-time transfer by calling Money Network customer service and completing additional verification steps 3. Request a 'provisional credit' while they investigate the fraud, which may give you access to the funds that were fraudulently taken I recommend calling Money Network first thing in the morning (6:00 AM PT) when their call volume is lowest.

AuthorWait, I can add it to Apple Pay even while it's frozen?? That would solve my immediate problem! Thank you so much for this info. Will try calling at 6am tomorrow.

Just following up to share that I had this EXACT situation in April. Called for replacement card, money deposited fine while waiting. But heads up - any automatic payments you had set up on the old card will fail. You'll need to update those with the new card number when it arrives. The new card will have completely different numbers for security reasons.

AuthorThank you for the heads up! I'll make a list of all the autopayments I need to update once the new card arrives. Appreciate everyone's help with this!
