EDD account showing 'disqualified' after Money Network card activation - no explanation!
I'm completely stressed out about my unemployment situation right now. I received my Money Network debit card last week, activated it successfully, but when I logged into my UI Online account yesterday, my claim suddenly shows 'disqualified' for my last certification period! There's absolutely NO explanation why this happened. I've been receiving benefits for 6 weeks without issues, reported all my work search activities correctly, and haven't had any income changes. When I try to click for more details, the system just takes me back to the homepage. Has anyone experienced this random disqualification after activating their Money Network card? Is there some connection? I've been trying to call EDD for two days straight but keep getting the 'maximum callers reached' message. I have bills due next week and was counting on this payment!

This actually happens more often than you'd think. When you activate the Money Network card, there's sometimes a verification flag that gets triggered in their system, especially if you're accessing from a different IP address than your usual UI Online logins. Double check that your identity verification through ID.me is fully completed - sometimes these flags come up if there's any pending verification steps. Also, check your UI Online inbox for any notices about an eligibility interview. They don't always email you when they send these notices.

•Thanks for responding! I've checked my inbox and there's nothing there about an interview or verification issues. My ID.me was completed weeks ago and I've been getting paid fine until now. It's so frustrating they don't tell you WHY you're disqualified!

After dealing with a very similar situation last month, I can tell you that calling EDD is going to be your best bet, but you NEED to reach a Tier 2 specialist. The frontline reps can only see the disqualification but not fix it. I was in the same boat where my claim suddenly showed disqualified right after I activated my Money Network card. Turns out there was an identity verification issue in their system even though I had completed ID.me correctly. After wasting days trying to get through on the regular line, I tried a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD agent within 20 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The tier 2 specialist was able to see that it was a system error and fixed it on the spot. My payment was released the next day. Worth considering if you keep getting that maximum callers message.

•I hadn't heard of this service before. I'm so desperate at this point I might try it. Did they actually get you through to someone who could help with the disqualification issue? I'm worried about spending more money when I'm already stressing about bills.

•Yes, they connected me directly to EDD and I got a tier 2 specialist after explaining my situation to the first agent. Just make sure you're ready with your claim info when you call. The specialist was able to see it was a system flag because of the timing between card activation and my next certification. Some kind of automated fraud check that got triggered incorrectly.

This is a very common issue I've seen repeatedly as an EDD consultant. What's happening is that when your Money Network card is activated, it triggers an automatic identity verification check that runs against your claim information. If there are ANY discrepancies (even minor ones like a slightly different address format), it can generate an automatic disqualification while the system flags your account for review. Here's what you should do: 1. Check if the address on your Money Network account EXACTLY matches what's in your UI Online profile - even small differences matter 2. Look for a message in your UI Online inbox - sometimes the notification gets delayed by 24-48 hours 3. If you see nothing there, you absolutely need to speak with a claims specialist (Tier 2 rep) 4. Request an eligibility determination interview when you speak with them 5. While waiting, continue certifying for benefits as normal The good news is that if this is just a system flag error, once you speak with a specialist, they can often remove the disqualification immediately, and your payment can be processed within 24-48 hours. This happens to approximately 5-7% of claimants after card activation based on what I've observed.

•Why does the EDD make EVERYTHING so complicated??? Like why not just TELL people about this possible issue when they send the card instructions? Or I don't know...maybe FIX THEIR SYSTEM so it doesn't randomly disqualify people? It's like they WANT people to suffer! Every time I deal with EDD it's nothing but problems. And their "customer service" is a joke. How are people supposed to pay bills when this stuff happens?

Just to share my experience with the Money Network card - when I activated mine back in February, everything was fine for about a week then I got a "disqualification" too. For me, it turned out I had entered my SSN with a typo when activating the card, which didn't match my claim info. Took forever to get it fixed though. Hope your situation gets resolved faster!

•How did you finally get it fixed? Did you have to call or was there another way to resolve it?

•Had to call unfortunately. Took me 3 days of trying before I got through. They had to escalate to a specialist who could see both systems.

UPDATE: I FINALLY got through to EDD this morning after calling right when they opened! You all were right - it was a verification issue triggered by the Money Network card activation. The rep said there was a mismatch between my mailing address (where the card was sent) and my residence address on file. The tier 2 specialist was able to verify my identity and remove the disqualification. She said my payment should be processed within 48 hours. Such a relief! For anyone else experiencing this - keep calling and make sure you get to a tier 2 rep who can actually fix the issue. The first person I spoke with couldn't even see why I was disqualified.

•Great news! Thanks for updating us. This is exactly why it's so important to make sure all your information matches exactly across systems. Glad you got it resolved without too much delay.

•Lucky you got through! I'm dealing with a different EDD issue and been trying for WEEKS with no luck. The system is broken!!

So glad you got this resolved! This is exactly why I always tell people to double-check that ALL their information matches perfectly across EDD systems before activating anything. The Money Network card activation seems to trigger these verification checks more often than EDD admits. For future reference for anyone reading this - when you get your card, before activating it, go into your UI Online account and verify that your mailing address, residential address, phone number, and even how your name is formatted (middle initial vs full middle name, etc.) matches EXACTLY what you used when you first applied. Even tiny differences can cause these automated flags. It's ridiculous that EDD doesn't warn people about this possibility, but at least now we know what to watch out for. Thanks for updating us with the resolution - it really helps other people going through the same thing!

•This is such helpful advice! I wish I had known about checking all the address formatting before I activated my card. It's crazy that something as simple as writing "St." vs "Street" can cause your benefits to get flagged. EDD really needs to do a better job explaining these potential issues upfront instead of leaving people to figure it out after they're already in crisis mode. Thanks for sharing this tip - it could save a lot of people from going through what Connor just experienced!
