EDD UI: How to switch from reduced hours to full unemployment certification?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment claim. I've been on reduced hours for a while, but now I need to switch to full unemployment. The problem is, I haven't gotten any info about how to certify for this change. Anyone else been through this? What should I do?

Thanks for the suggestions! I checked my UI Online account, but there's no option to certify or file a new claim. Guess I'll have to brave the phone lines... š«

Oof, calling EDD is like trying to win the lottery. I spent weeks trying to get through. Hope you have better luck!

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. Like, set an alarm and everything. It's still a pain, but your chances are way better.

I've also heard that pressing the '0' key repeatedly sometimes helps you get to an operator faster.

Have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds like some 1990s nonsense, but I actually got a response when I faxed in my issue. Just google "EDD fax number" and you should find it.

Honestly, the fax method has worked for a few folks I know. It's worth a shot if you're stuck.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess. I swear they make it confusing on purpose. Have you tried logging into your UI Online account? Sometimes the certification link shows up there even if you don't get an email or letter.

It's like they designed it to be a maze. I found that refreshing the page sometimes helps too.

yall ever think about how much time and money is wasted on this broken system? like, imagine if they just hired more people to answer phones instead of making us all waste hours of our lives on hold. smh

It's just common sense, right? More staff could streamline this so much.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

$20 just to make a phone call? That's highway robbery! š¤¬

Nah, it's legit. I was skeptical too, but after wasting hours trying to get through, $20 seemed worth it. And it worked! Got my issue resolved in one call.

How does it actually work? Do they give you a specific time to be ready for the call?

I used Claimyr too, and they notify you when the call is connected. It's pretty slick.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They sometimes have direct lines to EDD and can help push your case through. Worth a shot!

I did this a few months ago. It took a while, but they eventually got back to me!

I had a similar issue last year. You might need to file a new claim if your benefit year has ended. Check your UI Online account for the "File New Claim" button. If it's not there, you'll probably have to call EDD directly. Good luck getting through tho š

This is key advice. A lot of people forget about the benefit year expiration.

Listen up, I've been down this road before and I've got the 411 on how to handle this situation. Here's what you need to do: ā¢ First, double-check your UI Online account. Sometimes the system updates before they send out notifications. ā¢ If there's nothing there, you need to contact EDD ASAP. Your status change won't happen automatically. ā¢ Try using the "Contact Us" form on the EDD website. Be specific about your situation in the message. ā¢ If that doesn't work, you'll have to call. I know, it sucks, but it's necessary. ā¢ When you call, use the phrase "status change" or "reporting change in employment." This might help you get to the right department faster. ā¢ Be prepared with all your info: SSN, last employer details, dates of employment change, etc. ā¢ If you can't get through, keep trying. It's frustrating, but persistence pays off. Remember, the sooner you get this sorted, the less likely you are to have a gap in your benefits. Don't give up!

Guys I think I cracked the code!!! šµļøāāļø If you press 2, then 4, then wait 10 seconds and press 1, you get to a different menu that actually lets you talk to a person! Tried it this morning and got through in 20 minutes!

I think these hacks only work for a while before they patch them. Worth trying new ones regularly.

Navigating the unemployment benefits system can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you're transitioning to full unemployment. Here are a few steps to help you through this process: 1) Double-check your UI Online account regularly as updates may appear without notification. 2) If you're not seeing an option to certify or file a new claim, it's crucial to contact EDD directly. 3) While calling can be time-consuming, some users have found success using tools like Claimyr, which, for a fee, help connect you directly to a live agent. Do weigh the cost against the value of your time and frustration. 4) Another option is to contact your local assembly member's office as they may have direct channels to expedite your case. 5) Lastly, as a community, sharing tips and methods that work (like certain phone menu combinations) can be invaluable, though these can change. Remember to stay persistent; many have walked this path and emerged successfully.

I read somewhere that staffing issues and outdated systems contribute to this chaos.
