NYSDOL: Didn't certify after applying for new claim, need help contacting unemployment office

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I didn't certify for my unemployment benefits because I applied for a new claim. Now I'm trying to get in touch with the unemployment office again to sort this out. Has anyone been through something similar? Any advice on how to handle this situation?

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there are messages or updates there that might help explain your situation.

Good idea, I'll take another look. Last time I checked it was just showing my claim as inactive πŸ˜•

Def double check. I once missed an important notice buried in my inbox there. The website is about as user-friendly as a brick 🧱

Why didn't you certify tho? Even if you applied for a new claim, you should always certify for the weeks you're eligible. Now you might have a gap in your benefits 😬

I know, I messed up πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I thought applying for a new claim meant I shouldn't certify for the old one. Lesson learned the hard way

Don't beat yourself up, the system is designed to be confusing af. We've all made mistakes with this stuff

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

How long did it take to get through using this service?

It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They called me when an agent was on the line.

Ugh, been there done that. The system is so confusing! Have you tried calling them? It's a nightmare to get through, but it's probably your best bet.

Yeah, I've been trying to call all morning. No luck so far 😫 Any tips on the best time to call?

I heard early morning is best, like right when they open. But honestly, it's hit or miss. Good luck!

Anyone else think its wild that in 2023 we still cant get a decent unemployment system? Like, we can land robots on Mars but god forbid we have a website that actually works πŸ™„

For real tho. My grandma could design a better system and she still uses a flip phone πŸ“±πŸ‘΅

Hey OP, Claimyr is a service that can be really beneficial if you're having significant trouble reaching the unemployment office by phone. Their service directly connects you to an agent without the hassle of constant dialing and waiting. It does come with a cost, which is something to keep in mind, especially if you're on a tight budget. However, many have found it worth the expense for the convenience and time saved. That said, it’s always wise to weigh this option against other free methods like calling during off-peak times or trying alternative contact methods such as social media or online portals. These might take longer but are free. Ultimately, the best approach depends on how urgent your situation is and your resources. Good luck!

Claimyr sounds like a great option if you're in a hurry, but I'll also keep trying the traditional routes.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep trying to call. Be persistent. 2. While you're waiting to get through, gather all your documents related to your claim. 3. Write down a clear explanation of what happened and why you didn't certify. 4. Be polite but firm when you finally reach someone. Explain your situation clearly. 5. Ask about retroactive certification for the weeks you missed. 6. If they can't help, ask to speak to a supervisor. 7. Take notes during the call, including the name of who you spoke to. 8. Follow up with an email summarizing your call and any next steps. Remember, mistakes happen. The key is to address it ASAP. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: if you can't get through by phone, try faxing a letter explaining your situation. Sometimes that works!

Not to be that guy, but have you tried turning it off and on again? 🀣 jk jk. But seriously, sometimes logging out and back in to your account can refresh things. Worth a shot!

Honestly, sometimes it does the trick. I'll try anything at this point!

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling some of the other department numbers. Sometimes you can get transferred to the right person that way. I'll DM you some numbers to try.
