NYSDOL Unemployment: How to provide additional info for claim? Tips needed
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment claim. I need to provide some additional information but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone been through this process recently? What should I expect when I talk to a claims specialist? Any tips on how to make sure I have everything ready? I'm feeling pretty lost here and could use some guidance.

Ugh, the EDD is such a nightmare to deal with. I spent HOURS on hold last week trying to get through. Good luck, you're gonna need it 🙄

It's the waiting that gets to you. I always feel like I'm wasting my whole day.

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree to understand half the stuff on the EDD website? 🤣 I'm just tryna get paid, not write a dissertation!

It really is like navigating a maze. I wish they'd simplify their language.

Word of advice: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. You never know when you might need to prove you did something or someone told you something. CYA all the way!

This can't be stressed enough. Documentation saved me from a major headache with my claim.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

I know it sounds crazy, but I was desperate. It actually worked for me and saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

I tried it too and was skeptical at first, but it does work as advertised. Though, I think it's unfortunate we have to resort to paying for such services.

Here's what you need to know about providing additional info for your claim: 1. Be specific: Have exact dates, amounts, and details ready. 2. Document everything: Keep a record of all communications. 3. Be patient: The process can be slow, but stay persistent. 4. Know your rights: Familiarize yourself with the appeals process just in case. 5. Double-check online: Sometimes you can upload documents through your online portal. Remember, the claims specialists are there to help. Be polite but firm, and don't be afraid to ask questions if you're unsure about anything. Good luck!

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I'll definitely make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I call.

Great advice! I'd add: write down a list of questions before you call. Its easy to forget stuff when your on the phone.

Also, remember to take notes during the call. It helps to have a record of what was discussed and what's needed next.

Been there, done that. Make sure you have ALL your documents ready. I mean everything - pay stubs, ID, social security card, the works. They'll ask for the most random stuff, I swear.

Totally agree! They can ask for documents you wouldn't even think of. Better safe than sorry.

Using Claimyr can be a game changer when you're struggling to get through to EDD. While it's true that $20 might seem steep, it can save you countless hours and frustration. However, it's also important to consider that not everyone will be able to afford this fee, which can be a barrier for some. As an alternative, continue exploring other options such as using the local assemblymember method or try different call times as mentioned by others in this thread.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember's office? They can sometimes help expedite things with EDD. Worked for me when I was stuck in limbo for weeks.

I hadn't even thought of that! How do I find out who my assemblymember is?

Just google "[your city] assemblymember" and it should pop up. Most have a form on their website for constituent services. Good luck!

Anyone else notice that the EDD website is always "undergoing maintenance" when you actually need to use it? 🙄 It's like they're trying to make this as difficult as possible.

Protip: if you can, try calling right when they open. I got through in like 10 minutes last Tuesday. Might've just been lucky tho 🤷♂️

Just a heads up, they changed some policies last month. Make sure you're up to date on the latest requirements. I got caught out and had to resubmit a bunch of stuff 😫

Unpopular opinion: I actually had a pretty smooth experience with EDD. Got through on my second try and the rep was super helpful. Guess I just got lucky?

Hey OP, what specific info do you need to provide? Might be able to give more targeted advice if we know what you're dealing with.

Thanks for asking! They said something about needing more details about my last employer. I'm not sure exactly what they want though.

Ah, gotcha. They'll probably want dates of employment, reason for separation, and possibly contact info for HR. Have all that ready and you should be good to go!

I'd also recommend checking if they need any specific documents from your employer, like a notice of separation.
