NYSDOL: How to complete old unemployment claim, submit docs & verify identity?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to complete an old unemployment claim and I'm not sure where to start. I need to submit some additional documents and verify my identity. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips on how to prepare for the call with the unemployment office? I'm feeling pretty lost here and could use some advice.

I found a way to solve unemployment claim document submission issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blaJ9YrLk7E

pro tip: if you can, try to find out which documents they need before you call. sometimes they have specific forms you gotta fill out for old claims. saves time on the phone.

Yes, and check if they have any document templates available online. It can streamline the process.

I've been there, buddy. It's a real headache. Here's what worked for me: 1. Gather ALL your docs before calling. ID, proof of employment, any letters from unemployment office. 2. Write down your questions and issues. Trust me, you'll forget stuff when you're on the call. 3. Be super clear when you talk to the agent. Tell them exactly what you need help with. 4. Ask for next steps. Make sure you know what to do after the call. 5. Take notes during the call. You'll thank yourself later. Good luck! 💪

Great advice! I would also suggest having a dedicated folder or a digital file where you save all relevant emails, letters, and notes from your calls. Organization is key!

Have you tried the claimyr thing someone mentioned above? Might be worth a shot.

Hey OP, just a heads up - when I had to complete an old claim, they asked for a ton of info about why there was a delay. Make sure you have a clear explanation ready. Good luck!

That's a good point. Having documentation or dates of when you attempted to contact them can help too.

I feel you. It's like they don't want us to get our benefits. 🙄

Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works for me.

Another tip is to try calling late in the day, just before they close. Sometimes the lines are less busy then.

Quick question - does anyone know if they're still doing those extra federal benefits? I heard they might have ended but I'm not sure.

I think they ended a while ago, but it might depend on your state. Best to ask when you get through.

The extra benefits are gone, my dude. We're back to the regular scraps they give us 😒

Yeah, most of the pandemic-related benefits have ended, but do check your state's website for any updates or extensions.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops? The system is broken af 😤

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're trying to make it as difficult as possible.

Hey OP, don't forget to check your online account too. Sometimes they post important messages there that they don't send by mail. Learned that one the hard way 😅

Great point! And regularly check your spam or junk folders in your email. Sometimes their communications end up there.

Hey guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Wow, really? How long did you have to wait?

Sounds like a scam tbh. Why should we have to pay to talk to unemployment?

@profile 8 It took about an hour, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. @profile 9 I get it, but for me it was worth it. I was going crazy trying to get through.

Just a heads up for everyone, always read reviews and do some research before paying for such services. It's essential to ensure it's legitimate.

I recently went through a similar process, and while preparing can be daunting, it's essential to stay organized. Claimyr can be a useful tool for those who have struggled to get through via traditional methods. However, it's important to remember that not everyone may be able to afford the cost, so finding a balance is key. Additionally, stay informed by checking official unemployment websites for any updates or changes in processes. Sometimes, reaching out to your state's unemployment office through email or online portals can yield faster responses. Best of luck with your claim!

Anybody else feel like they need a degree in bureaucracy to navigate this stuff? I swear, it's harder than my actual job was 🤦‍♂️
