EDD Tax forms 1099-G for disability and paid family leave - separate or same site?
I'm trying to get ahead on my taxes for 2024 and need to track down my tax forms from SDI disability and PFL that I received earlier this year. Does anyone know if I'm supposed to receive separate 1099-G forms for each program or do they come combined? And am I supposed to access them through the same website as regular unemployment benefits? I've been checking my UI Online account and don't see anything yet. Really want to file early this year to get my refund faster!

•Thanks! I've been checking my mail religiously but haven't seen anything yet. Do you know if they'll be available online somewhere too? I'm worried they might get lost in the mail.

There's a bit of confusion here. For Disability Insurance (SDI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL), the EDD issues a Form 1099-NEC (formerly 1099-MISC), not a 1099-G. These should be available by January 31, 2025, and you access them through your SDI Online account, not your UI Online account. Regular unemployment benefits use Form 1099-G, which is accessed through a different portal. So to answer your question - they are separate forms, accessed through different websites: - For SDI/PFL: Log into your SDI Online account - For unemployment: Log into the dedicated 1099-G portal at https://edd.ca.gov/1099g If you haven't received anything by early February, you should call EDD directly.

•Oh this is super helpful! I had no idea they'd be on completely different systems. I've been checking UI Online this whole time. I'll log into my SDI account right now. Thank you!

I got disability last year and never got a tax form for it. Didn't matter tho since disability isn't taxable in CA so you don't need to report it!!!

•This isn't entirely accurate. While SDI benefits are not taxable for California state income tax, they ARE reportable for federal tax purposes. The federal taxability depends on whether you or your employer paid the SDI premiums. If your employer paid them, then the benefits are federally taxable. If you paid the premiums with after-tax dollars, the benefits aren't federally taxable. You should definitely wait to receive your 1099-NEC before filing.

I'm dealing with the EXACT same issue right now!!! Been on disability since October and also took 6 weeks PFL after my surgery. I called EDD yesterday about this and spent 3 HOURS trying to get through to someone. When I finally got through, they told me disability tax forms are supposed to be mailed by Jan 31st but sometimes they're late. And apparently they're having issues with the online system showing the forms too. So frustrating!!! Why can't they just have ONE SYSTEM that works properly??!!

•I feel your pain! I went through this last year with my disability claim. If you need to get through to EDD faster, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually worked for me. They get you through to an EDD rep without the hours of redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Saved me so much frustration when I needed to sort out my missing tax forms.

To clarify some of the confusion in this thread: 1. State Disability Insurance (SDI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) tax documents are reported on Form 1099-NEC (previously called 1099-MISC until a few years ago) 2. Regular Unemployment Insurance benefits are reported on Form 1099-G 3. You access these forms through different systems: - SDI/PFL: Log into your SDI Online account - UI: Log into the dedicated 1099-G portal 4. Important tax considerations: - SDI/PFL benefits are NOT taxable for California state income tax - SDI/PFL benefits MAY be taxable for federal purposes depending on who paid the premiums - UI benefits are fully taxable for both state and federal 5. Timing: By law, all tax forms must be made available by January 31st If you need immediate assistance, I recommend calling the SDI help line at 1-800-480-3287 specifically for questions about disability tax forms.

•This is actually a security feature. You'll need to call the SDI department directly to have them unlock your account. Make sure you have your account information and identification ready when you call.

Thanks everyone for the help! I finally figured it out. For anyone else with the same question: 1. I had to log into my SDI Online account (completely separate from UI Online) 2. Under "Form 1099" in the menu there were links to both my disability AND PFL tax forms 3. They're both 1099-NEC forms but separate documents for each claim 4. The forms just became available yesterday Hopefully this helps someone else! Now I can finally finish my taxes.

Just wanted to add that if you're having trouble accessing your SDI Online account like I did last month, you can also request paper copies of your 1099-NEC forms by calling the SDI customer service line. They can mail them to your address on file, which might be faster than trying to unlock your online account if it's been inactive. The rep I spoke with said it usually takes 5-7 business days to receive them by mail. Super helpful for those of us who need to file early!

•That's a great tip! I didn't even know you could request paper copies by calling. I've been struggling with my locked SDI account for days now. Do you happen to remember if there's a specific option to press when you call, or do you just ask to speak to a rep? I always get lost in those phone menus and end up hanging up in frustration.
