EDD Paid Status to Money Network Card Timeline - What does Waiting Period Served mean?

Just got some good news! My claim finally switched to 'paid' status this morning after certifying. I'm a first-time filer and completely confused about what happens next. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for the Money Network Card to arrive in the mail? My mailing address is different from my home address, so I'm worried about missing it. Also, there's this message saying 'waiting period served' under week 1 - what exactly does that mean? Is that normal or did I do something wrong? Really appreciate any help you all can provide!

Congrats on getting to paid status! The Money Network Card usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment is processed. The 'waiting period served' means you've completed the mandatory one-week waiting period that all new EDD claims have - it's essentially an unpaid week that everyone has to serve at the start of their claim. You won't get paid for that week, but it's completely normal and required by California law. Nothing to worry about!

Thank you so much! That's such a relief. Do you know if I'll get an email or text notification when the card ships? I'm just paranoid about missing it or someone stealing it from my mailbox.

money net work cardd took like TWO WEEKS for me... it was so frustrating!! and then when i got it i had to call & activate but the system hung up on me 3 times... edd is such a disaster. make sure ur address is updated on BOTH ur claim AND the bank of america account once you can set it up!!! dont make my mistake lol

0 coins

Oh no, that sounds stressful! Did you eventually get everything figured out? I'm worried now because my mailing address at my mom's house is different from where I actually live.

0 coins

yeah i finaly got it working but had to waste hours on the phone. just double check ALL ur addresses carefully on everything. and FYI its not Bank of America anymore its Money Network now so theres a different website & everything

Important correction: EDD doesn't use Bank of America anymore. They switched to Money Network in July 2023. When your card arrives, you'll need to activate it through Money Network's portal, not BofA. The waiting period is the standard first week of your claim that you don't get paid for - it's normal and everyone has to do it. Your first actual payment will be for your second week. The card typically arrives within 5-7 business days after your first payment processes, but can take up to 10 business days during busy periods.

mine took 11 days so dont panic if it goes a bit over what they say

my situation was exactly like ur husbands! i certified on a sunday morning once, it switched to paid by that afternoon, and my money was on the card by wednesday. but that was AFTER i already had the physical card in my possession. the first card does take a while to come in the mail as others have said.

Wednesday would be amazing! So once I get the card, future payments are pretty quick after certifying? That's good to know!

If you're worried about tracking when your Money Network card will arrive, I actually recommend setting up the direct deposit option as soon as you can access your Money Network account. It's much more convenient than the card. You can do this after you receive and activate your card. As for the waiting period - that's just EDD's way of saying you've completed the mandatory unpaid week that all new claims require. It's normal and you'll start receiving payments for your second week onward.

direct deposit 100% agree!! so much better than dealing with that stupid card. i lost mine twice lol

If you're still having trouble reaching EDD to ask about your card status, I used a service called Claimyr when my card didn't arrive after 2 weeks. They helped me get through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes when I couldn't get through at all on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The website is claimyr.com - it was worth it for me to actually talk to someone who could help track my card and confirm when it was mailed.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to wait the 7-10 business days first, but if there's any issue I'll definitely check that out. It's so hard to get through to EDD on the phone!

am i the only 1 who thinks its CRAZY we still have to wait for physical cards in 2025??? like why cant they just do instant direct deposit for the first payment??? my roommate got her nevada unemployment direct deposited immediately but california makes us wait for this stupid card 🙄

0 coins

SERIOUSLY!!! its so outdated. everything should be digital by now. the whole edd system is stuck in like 2010

0 coins

California actually does allow direct deposit, but you can only set it up after you receive and activate your initial Money Network card. It's a security measure to prevent fraud, even though it's inconvenient. Once you set up direct deposit, future payments are much faster.

0 coins

btw the waiting period is always the first week when u file a NEW claim. u dont get paid for that week. its dumb but thats how it works 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for confirming! I wish they explained these things better on the EDD website. Everything is so confusing when you're new to this!

One more thing to be aware of - when your Money Network card arrives, you'll need to set up your PIN and activate it right away. You'll also want to create an online account to track your balance and transactions. Don't forget to sign up for direct deposit if you prefer that over using the card. And just to clarify a common misconception - the waiting period is separate from the processing time. The waiting period is a policy thing (the unpaid first week), while the card delivery is just regular mail logistics.

Thank you for all this detailed info! This has been so helpful. I'll definitely set up direct deposit once I get the card. Fingers crossed it comes soon!

Hey Cynthia! Congrats on getting to paid status - that's always such a relief! Just wanted to add from my recent experience that you should definitely keep an eye on your mail around day 5-6 after your payment processes. The Money Network card comes in a pretty plain envelope that doesn't look super official, so it's easy to miss if you're not expecting it. Since you mentioned your mailing address is at your mom's house, maybe give her a heads up about what to look for? Also, once you get it, the activation process is actually pretty straightforward through their website or phone line. The waiting period thing is totally normal - everyone has to serve that unpaid first week, so you're right on track!

0 coins

That's such a good point about the plain envelope! I would have definitely overlooked it. I'll make sure to tell my mom to watch for anything from Money Network or EDD. Do you remember if there was any sender name on the envelope that might help her identify it? I'm just worried since she gets a lot of mail and might accidentally toss it thinking it's junk mail.

Good question! From what I remember, mine came from "Conduent" or something similar - definitely not obviously labeled as EDD or Money Network. It looked kind of like a credit card offer envelope, honestly. Maybe suggest your mom opens anything that looks like it could contain a card for the next week or two? Better safe than sorry! Also, if you're really concerned about missing it, you could always call EDD after about 10 business days to check if it was actually mailed out.

Welcome to the club of finally getting paid status! 🎉 I just went through this exact same process a few months ago. The Money Network card took exactly 8 business days for me, and yes, the envelope is super plain - it literally just says "Conduent" on it and looks like junk mail. Definitely warn your mom! As for the waiting period served, that's actually a good thing - it means you've completed the mandatory unpaid week and now you're eligible for actual payments. Pro tip: once you get your card, set up the Money Network app right away. It'll let you track your balance and set up notifications so you know exactly when future payments hit. The direct deposit option through the app is a game changer too - much faster than waiting for the card to be loaded each time you certify!

0 coins

This is all super helpful! I'm definitely going to download the Money Network app as soon as I get the card. Quick question - when you set up direct deposit through the app, did it take effect immediately for your next certification, or was there a delay? I'm hoping to avoid the card loading wait times as much as possible once I get everything set up. Also thanks for the heads up about the Conduent envelope - I'll make sure my mom knows to look out for that specific sender name!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who literally just went through this exact situation last month! The anxiety of waiting for that first card is so real, especially when your mailing address is different from where you live. Mine took 9 business days and came from "Conduent" in a super plain white envelope - honestly looked like a credit card application or something. I almost threw it away! One thing I wish someone had told me: once you activate the card and set up your Money Network account online, you can actually see your payment history and track when funds are loaded. It's really helpful for peace of mind. And definitely set up direct deposit ASAP once you get access - it cuts the wait time from like 2-3 days down to next business day for future certifications. The "waiting period served" thing confused me too at first, but it's totally normal. California makes everyone serve one unpaid week at the beginning of their claim. Think of it as EDD's way of saying "okay, you've done your mandatory waiting week, now you can start getting paid." You'll see actual money for week 2 and beyond. Hang in there - you're almost at the finish line!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's such a relief to hear from someone who just went through this recently. I'm definitely going to tell my mom to keep an eye out for that Conduent envelope - I would have totally thrown that away thinking it was junk mail too! The tip about being able to track payment history through the Money Network account is really helpful. I had no idea you could see when funds are loaded. That'll definitely help with the anxiety of wondering if/when payments go through. I'm planning to set up direct deposit the second I get access to avoid those card loading delays. Thanks again for the encouragement - it really helps to know I'm almost there after all this waiting and confusion!

Hey Cynthia! Congrats on reaching paid status - that's such a huge milestone! I went through this exact same thing about 6 months ago and totally understand the confusion. The Money Network card usually arrives within 7-10 business days, but like others mentioned, it comes in a really plain envelope from "Conduent" that looks like junk mail. Definitely give your mom a heads up to watch for it! The "waiting period served" is actually great news - it means you've completed California's mandatory unpaid first week that everyone has to do on new claims. You won't get paid for that week, but now you're eligible for actual payments starting with week 2. One tip I wish I'd known: once you get the card and activate it, you can set up text or email alerts through the Money Network website to notify you when funds are loaded. It really helps with the anxiety of wondering when payments will hit. And definitely consider setting up direct deposit once you have access - it's so much faster for future certifications! You're doing great and almost there! 💪

Thanks Emma! This whole process has been such a learning curve, but everyone here has been incredibly helpful. I never realized how many little details there were to navigate - from the plain envelope to setting up alerts. I'm definitely going to have my mom watch for that Conduent mailer and will set up all those notifications once I get the card activated. It's so reassuring to hear from people who've recently been through this exact situation. Really appreciate all the encouragement and practical tips! 🙏

Congrats on getting to paid status! That's always such a huge relief after all the waiting and uncertainty. The Money Network card typically arrives within 7-10 business days, though it can sometimes take up to 2 weeks depending on mail volume. Since your mailing address is at your mom's place, definitely give her a heads up to watch for a plain white envelope from "Conduent" - it doesn't look official at all and could easily be mistaken for junk mail. The "waiting period served" message is actually good news! It means you've completed California's mandatory one-week waiting period that all new unemployment claims have to serve. You don't get paid for that first week (it's unpaid), but now you're eligible to receive payments starting with your second week of certification. Once your card arrives, make sure to activate it right away and consider setting up the Money Network mobile app - you can track your balance, set up notifications for when funds are loaded, and most importantly, set up direct deposit for future payments. Direct deposit is so much faster than waiting for the card to be loaded each time you certify! You're almost at the finish line - hang in there! 🙌

Thank you so much Lourdes! This has been such an overwhelming process but everyone here has made it so much clearer. I really appreciate you breaking down the waiting period thing - I was worried I had messed something up! I'm definitely going to warn my mom about the Conduent envelope and have her check carefully for anything that looks like it could be a card. The mobile app tip is great too - I had no idea I could set up notifications to track when funds are loaded. That'll save me so much anxiety! Can't wait to get this whole direct deposit thing set up once the card arrives. Thanks for all the encouragement - it really helps to know I'm on the right track! 😊

Hey Cynthia! Congrats on getting to paid status - that's such a huge milestone! 🎉 I just went through this exact same process about 3 months ago, so I totally understand the mix of excitement and confusion you're feeling right now. The Money Network card usually takes about 7-10 business days to arrive, but since your mailing address is at your mom's house, definitely give her a heads up to watch for a very plain envelope from "Conduent" - it seriously looks like junk mail or a credit card offer! I almost threw mine away because it was so generic looking. The "waiting period served" is actually really good news! It means you've successfully completed California's mandatory unpaid first week that everyone has to serve on new claims. You won't get paid for that week (nobody does), but now you're eligible for actual payments starting with week 2. It's totally normal and means you're right on track! Pro tip: once you get your card and activate it, immediately download the Money Network app and set up notifications so you'll know exactly when future payments are loaded. And definitely set up direct deposit ASAP through the app - it cuts the wait time from several days down to next business day for future certifications. Game changer! You're doing everything right and you're almost there! The hardest part is behind you. 💪

Thank you so much Amara! This is exactly what I needed to hear! 😊 I've been feeling so overwhelmed by all the unknowns, but everyone's experiences here have been incredibly reassuring. I'm definitely going to call my mom today and warn her about that Conduent envelope - knowing it looks like junk mail would have been a disaster waiting to happen! The waiting period explanation makes so much sense now too. I was genuinely worried I had done something wrong when I saw that message. It's such a relief to know it's just part of the normal process and that I'm actually on the right track. I'm already planning to download that Money Network app the second I get the card and will set up direct deposit immediately. The idea of cutting future wait times down to next business day sounds amazing! Thank you for all the encouragement and practical tips - this community has been a lifesaver! 🙏

Hey Cynthia! Huge congrats on getting to paid status! 🎉 I know exactly how you're feeling right now - I went through this same rollercoaster just a few months back. The Money Network card typically arrives within 7-10 business days, but definitely warn your mom to look out for a super plain envelope from "Conduent" - it literally looks like those annoying credit card offers you usually throw away! I almost missed mine because of how generic it looked. The "waiting period served" message is actually fantastic news - it means you've completed California's mandatory unpaid first week that all new claimants have to serve. Nobody gets paid for that first week (it's just how the system works), but now you're eligible for actual payments starting with your second week of certification. Once you get that card, my biggest recommendation is to immediately set up the Money Network mobile app and enable notifications so you'll know the instant funds are loaded. Even better - set up direct deposit through the app ASAP! It's a total game changer and cuts your wait time from days down to next business day for all future certifications. You're so close to the finish line now! The hardest part of navigating all this EDD confusion is behind you. Hang in there! 💪

Thank you Brian! This entire thread has been such a lifesaver - I had no idea about so many of these details! I'm definitely calling my mom right after this to warn her about the Conduent envelope. The fact that it looks like a credit card offer is so important to know - she would have absolutely tossed it without thinking twice! I feel so much better understanding that the waiting period thing is totally normal and not something I messed up. The direct deposit tip seems to be the consensus here and I'm definitely going to set that up immediately once I get access. It sounds like it'll save so much stress and waiting time for future payments. Really appreciate all the encouragement - it means so much to hear from people who've been through this exact same process recently! 😊

Hey Cynthia! Congrats on reaching paid status - that's such a huge relief! 🎉 I just went through this exact same situation about 8 weeks ago, so I totally get the mix of excitement and anxiety you're feeling right now. Your Money Network card should arrive within 7-10 business days (mine took exactly 9), but here's the critical thing everyone's mentioned that I want to emphasize - it comes in the most generic white envelope from "Conduent" that looks exactly like junk mail! I literally had it sitting on my counter for 2 days thinking it was a credit card offer. Please give your mom a heads up about this - maybe even ask her to open anything that could possibly contain a card for the next couple weeks just to be safe. The "waiting period served" message is actually great news! It means you've successfully completed California's mandatory unpaid first week that every new claimant has to serve. You won't receive payment for that week (nobody does - it's state policy), but you're now eligible for actual payments starting with week 2. You're doing everything right! Once your card arrives, activate it immediately and download the Money Network app. Set up notifications so you'll know the instant funds are loaded, and definitely set up direct deposit ASAP - it's a total game changer for future certifications. You're almost at the finish line! 💪

Hey Liam, thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's so reassuring to hear from someone who just went through this recently. I'm definitely going to call my mom today and stress how important it is to watch for that Conduent envelope - the fact that you had it sitting on your counter for 2 days thinking it was junk mail is exactly what I'm worried about! I'll probably ask her to take photos of any suspicious envelopes and text them to me just to be extra safe. The waiting period explanation makes total sense now - I was genuinely panicked thinking I had messed something up when I saw that message. It's such a relief to know it's just standard procedure and that I'm actually on track. I'm already planning my Money Network app setup strategy for when the card arrives! Thanks for all the encouragement and practical advice - this community has been amazing! 😊
