EDD Claim Help: Confused about 'Place of Business' for WFH - What to Expect?

Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my unemployment claim. I've been working from home and I'm not sure if I filled out the place of business correctly on my claim form. Has anyone else dealt with this? I want to make sure everything is accurate before I submit it. What should I expect after I file?

I had the same issue when I filed my claim! For the place of business, I just put my home address since that's where I was actually working. It seemed to work out fine for me.

Did you have to provide any additional documentation to prove you were working from home?

Nah, they didn't ask for anything extra. But it might be different for everyone, idk šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I had to submit a letter from my employer confirming my WFH status. Better safe than sorry!

Ugh, the unemployment system is such a mess rn. I've been waiting for weeks to hear back about my claim. Good luck getting any clear answers šŸ™„

Here's what you need to know about filing an unemployment claim when working from home: • Use your home address as the place of business • Be prepared to provide documentation of your work-from-home arrangement if asked • Make sure to report any income accurately, even if it's reduced • Keep track of all your job search activities • Expect some delays in processing due to high volume After you file, you'll usually get a confirmation email. Then it's a waiting game. They might contact you for more info or to verify details. Just be patient and keep checking your account for updates.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! It's really helpful. Do you know how long the waiting period usually is?

It varies a lot, but these days it can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks. The system is pretty backlogged.

This is great info! Saving this for later šŸ’Æ

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Totally agree. We need to push for reform in the unemployment system. This is unacceptable.

Has anyone else noticed that the online portal is super glitchy? I keep getting error messages when I try to update my info.

OMG yes! I thought it was just me. Try using a different browser, that worked for me.

Pro tip: clear your cache and cookies before logging in. Seems to help with some of the glitches.

Just a heads up, they've been doing random audits on work-from-home claims. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row!

Thanks for posting this! I'm in a similar situation and was wondering the same thing. From what I've gathered reading through these comments, it seems like using your home address as the place of business is the way to go. @CosmicCrusader's breakdown was super helpful - definitely saving that info! One thing I'd add is to keep screenshots of everything you submit, just in case there are any issues later. The system can be unpredictable and having your own records helps. Also, if you have any emails or documents from your employer about the WFH arrangement, keep those handy too. Hope your claim goes smoothly! šŸ¤ž
