EDD CA: Only received one unemployment check, then payments stopped - What to do?

Has anyone else only gotten one unemployment check and then they just stopped? I'm so frustrated. I filed my claim and got approved, then received one payment. But after that, nothing. It's been weeks now and I haven't seen another dime. I've tried calling but can never get through to a real person. This is ridiculous. How are we supposed to survive like this? Anyone else dealing with this or know what I should do?

I found a way to solve unemployment payments suddenly stopping, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgLs6x_897U

Unpopular opinion: maybe try looking for work instead of relying on unemployment? There are jobs out there...

I AM looking for work. But I still need this money to survive while I search. Don't assume you know my situation.

It's important to understand that unemployment benefits are there to support people during transitions. It's not about laziness.

Here's what you need to do to get this resolved: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact EDD, including dates and times. 2. Check your UI Online account daily for any updates or tasks. 3. Try calling right when they open in the morning. Be persistent. 4. Reach out to your local state representative. They can often help push things through. 5. If you're really desperate, consider using a paid service like Claimyr to get through to an agent. 6. Once you get someone on the phone, ask them to escalate your case to a tier 2 specialist. 7. Be polite but firm. Explain your situation clearly and ask what specific steps you need to take to resolve the issue. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is overwhelmed, but you'll get through eventually.

This is excellent advice. Persistence can indeed be the difference between getting help and getting lost in the system.

Same boat here. Got my first payment in July, then radio silence. Its like they forgot about us or something. The system is so broken.

I know, right? It's like we're just left to fend for ourselves while the bills keep piling up.

{authoritative_comment} Filing for unemployment can be a frustrating ordeal, particularly when you've received an initial payment and then radio silence. One potential strategy is to document all interactions and attempts at contacting your unemployment office. While these departments are overwhelmed, having detailed records can help if you need to escalate your case. In your online account, watch for notifications and ensure all your information is current. The suggestion to reach out to your state representative is validโ€”these officials are there to assist constituents with government-related issues. Services like Claimyr, though at a cost, can sometimes expedite reaching an agent if you're unable to get through by traditional means. It's important to remain persistent and patient, as the system is often overloaded. While using such services might seem expensive, it can be worth the investment for peace of mind. In the meantime, ensure you continue any job search efforts, as actively looking for work is typically a requirement for benefits. Stay resilient and keep exploring all avenues for assistance.

I've been dealing with this exact issue since March. MARCH! It's like banging your head against a wall. I feel your pain, OP.

It's tough to stay positive, but knowing others have the same issue can sometimes help us feel less isolated.

Has anyone tried the "ask EDD" feature on the website? I've had some success getting responses there, tho it can take a few days.

I'll give it a shot. At this point, I'm willing to try anything. Thx for the suggestion!

I tried it once and got a generic response that didn't help at all. YMMV I guess.

Have you checked your UI Online account? Sometimes there are issues that need to be resolved before they'll release more payments. Look for any notifications or tasks you need to complete.

Have you tried faxing your documents? I know it sounds archaic, but sometimes that gets faster results than calling or online stuff.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny IMO.

Claimyr seems effective, but it's important to weigh the cost against your needs. Some folks might find it a worthwhile expense for peace of mind.
