EDD: Weeks without first payment, can't reach anyone. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with my unemployment claim. It's been weeks and I still haven't received my first payment. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to speed things up or what I should do next? I've tried calling but can never get through to a real person. Starting to feel pretty hopeless here...

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat a few months ago. It took me almost 2 months to get my first payment. The system is so backed up right now, its ridiculous. Have you tried checking your claim status online? Sometimes there's info there about whats holding things up.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've checked online but it just says my claim is still being processed. No other details. It's so frustrating!

2 months?! That's insane. I can't believe they make people wait that long for money they need to survive. The whole system needs an overhaul 😤

I know, right? It's a total mess. @OP, hang in there. It sucks, but eventually it should come through. Just keep documenting everything in case you need to follow up later.

Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things along. I emailed mine and they actually got back to me within a week and helped resolve an issue with my claim.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Wow, that sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? $20 seems steep but I guess it's worth it if you actually get through...

Yeah, it definitely works. I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through to an agent in about 2 hours. Way better than spending all day redialing myself.

I get the skepticism, but it's legit. They even have a money-back guarantee if you don't get through. Saved me a ton of headache.

Here's what worked for me: 1. Double-check all your paperwork. Make sure you didn't miss anything or make any errors. 2. Try calling right when they open. I had better luck getting through early in the morning. 3. If you can't get through on the phone, use their online messaging system. It's slow, but I eventually got a response. 4. Keep certifying for benefits every week, even if you haven't received your first payment yet. 5. Check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important emails end up there. 6. If all else fails, contact your local representative or the ombudsman's office. Hope this helps! The waiting game sucks, but don't give up. 💪

Has anyone heard about the new bill they're trying to pass to streamline the unemployment process? Supposedly it would set a maximum wait time for first payments. Anyone know more details?

I think I saw something about that on the news. Not sure about the details tho. Knowing how slow government moves, it'll probably take forever to implement even if it does pass 🙄

Pro tip: if you're having trouble getting through on the main line, try calling some of the other department numbers and asking to be transferred. Sometimes you can backdoor your way to the right person. Good luck!
