Customer service EDD number - which one actually works for getting through?

I've been trying to find the right customer service EDD number that actually connects you to a human. I see different numbers posted everywhere - 800-300-5616, 833-978-0953, some disability numbers. I'm so confused about which customer service EDD number I should be calling for my unemployment claim. Spent 3 hours yesterday calling what I thought was the main line but kept getting transferred to voicemail systems. Can someone clarify which customer service EDD number actually gets you to a live person?

For those still trying manually: the customer service EDD number menu is 1-wait 70 seconds-1-1-***. Don't rush the wait time or you'll get disconnected.

The customer service EDD number timing is crucial. Too fast and it disconnects, too slow and you waste time on redials.

This customer service EDD number hack just got me to the hold queue on attempt #8 instead of my usual 40+. You're a lifesaver!

0 coins

The customer service EDD number drops about 40% of calls even when you make it to hold. I've been dropped 6 times after 1+ hour holds this month alone.

The customer service EDD number call drops are why I finally broke down and used Claimyr. Can't handle another dropped call after hours of waiting.

That's exactly what pushed me to try alternatives. The customer service EDD number is designed to make you give up through pure frustration.

Is the EDD phone number open now - can't tell if lines are actually working

I keep seeing conflicting info about when the EDD phone number is actually open and taking calls. It's 2:30pm on a Wednesday and I've been calling 800-300-5616 for the past hour but keep getting the 'too busy' message. Are the lines actually open now or is this just how it always is? I need to reach someone about my claim status and I'm not sure if I should keep trying or if there's some outage I don't know about.

Reality check: if you've been calling for hours with no success, maybe it's time to consider alternatives. I know people who have called for weeks without getting through.

This is why services like Claimyr exist. Sometimes you just have to accept that manual calling isn't realistic anymore.

0 coins

Yeah, I'm starting to see that. Spending days on this is probably not the best use of my time.

0 coins

The EDD phone number is open and operational right now. The challenge isn't system availability - it's the massive imbalance between call volume and agent capacity. That's not changing anytime soon.

0 coins

Exactly. Think of it like trying to get concert tickets for a popular show, except the consequences are your unemployment benefits.

Except concert ticket sites don't drop your call after you've been waiting for 2 hours...

EDD phone number San Jose - can't reach anyone at local office

I've been trying to find a direct EDD phone number San Jose office for weeks now. My claim got messed up and I need to talk to someone local who can actually help. I keep calling the main 800-300-5616 number but after 3+ hours on hold yesterday the call just dropped. Does anyone know if there's still a local San Jose EDD office with a direct line? I'm so frustrated spending entire days trying to reach someone.

Reality check: I spent 40+ hours last month just trying to reach EDD. That's like having a part-time job just to talk to them about my unemployment. Something is seriously wrong with this system.

0 coins

40 hours is insane but sadly believable. I've probably spent 25+ hours myself over 3 weeks. This can't be sustainable.

0 coins

Right? And that's not counting the actual time spent on hold or talking to them. Just the redialing attempts. It's broken.

Final update from the San Jose crew: Used Claimyr this morning after reading all these comments. Got my callback in 15 minutes with an agent who fixed my claim issue in 10 minutes. Seriously wish I'd done this weeks ago instead of the manual calling torture.

15 minutes?! Okay I'm definitely trying Claimyr tomorrow. This thread convinced me it's worth it.

Do it! I was stubborn about paying but honestly the time savings alone is worth way more than what it costs. Best decision I made.

Contact my EDD case - phone system nightmare for 2 weeks straight

I need to contact my EDD case worker about a discrepancy but this phone system is absolutely broken. Been trying for 2 weeks straight to get through. I follow the 1-wait-1-1-*** pattern but keep getting 'too busy' message. Called 65 times yesterday alone. My work schedule only lets me call during lunch breaks but that seems to be the worst time. Anyone else having issues trying to contact their EDD case about specific claim problems?

Month 2 of trying to contact my EDD case worker. At this point the stress is worse than the actual issue I need to resolve.

Have you considered the auto-dialer route? Might be worth it for your peace of mind.

0 coins

Yeah, I'm ready to try anything at this point. Manual calling clearly isn't working.

0 coins

Reality check: Most people need 20-100 redial attempts just to get on hold, then 1.5-2+ hour waits, then 30-50% chance of dropped calls. System is broken.

0 coins

Those statistics are depressing but match my experience exactly. No wonder people are paying for calling services.

Exactly why I switched to Claimyr after my third week of failed attempts. Sometimes you have to admit defeat and find another way.

How to speak to live person at EDD - spent 6 hours calling yesterday

I'm losing my mind trying to speak to a live person at EDD. Yesterday I called from 8am until 2pm straight, got the busy signal probably 150 times, finally got on hold twice but both calls dropped after an hour and a half. I need to speak to someone about my claim that's been pending for 3 weeks. Has anyone actually managed to speak to a live person recently? What's the secret?

Update: Just got off the phone after finally speaking to live person! Took 4 hours of calling today but they resolved my issue in 15 minutes. The actual help is quick once you get through.

0 coins

Got through at 2:47pm on a Wednesday. Seemed to be the magic time to speak to live person based on what others have said here.

0 coins

The irony is once you speak to live person, they're actually helpful. It's just getting to that point that's impossible.

0 coins

For anyone still struggling - I used the Claimyr service mentioned earlier and spoke to live person in 18 minutes yesterday. My claim got resolved same day. Sometimes you just have to accept that manual calling isn't working.

0 coins

I think I'm ready to try that. 6 hours yesterday and still couldn't speak to live person. My time is worth something too.

0 coins

Same here. After reading this thread I realize I'm not alone in the struggle to speak to live person. Going to check out claimyr.com today.
