EDD Account Locked Out - Can't Reset Password Without Last Payment Amount. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with unemployment. I got fired and now I'm trying to file a claim, but I can't even access my account. The system is asking for my last payment amount to reset my password, but I have no clue what it is. Anyone been through this? Any tips on how to get through to a real person at the unemployment office?

Hey OP, hang in there. I know it sucks rn but you'll get through this. Don't give up! ๐Ÿ’ช

Thanks for the encouragement. It means a lot ๐Ÿ˜Š

I've been through this exact same situation! The key is to keep trying different approaches. If you can't remember your last payment amount, try going to your local EDD office in person - sometimes they can verify your identity in other ways. Also, check if you have any old paperwork, bank statements, or emails that might have payment info. Even if it takes a while, don't give up. The system is frustrating but you'll eventually get through. Wishing you luck! ๐Ÿคž

Missed EDD phone interview and got disconnected - How to reschedule?

I totally messed up and missed my phone interview with EDD. When I tried to call back and talk to someone, I got disconnected. Now I'm freaking out about what to do next. Has anyone else been through this? Any advice on how to reschedule or get back in touch with them?

I swear EDD is like playing the lottery. You might get lucky and get through, or you might waste your whole day listening to hold music. Anyone else feel like they're gonna go crazy if they hear that 'your call is important to us' message one more time?

OMG YES. I hear that message in my nightmares now ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

I've been in this exact situation before! Here's what worked for me: First, don't panic - they understand people miss interviews. Try calling the dedicated interview line (1-800-300-5616) rather than the main number. If you can't get through, log into your EDD account and look for a "Request Interview" or "Reschedule Interview" option. Also, try calling at different times - I had luck around 2-3 PM when call volume was lower. Keep a log of when you called and any confirmation numbers. Worst case, you can contact your state assembly member's office for help. You've got this! ๐Ÿ’ช

To all those having trouble reaching a human at California Unemployment. I just ran across this video that gave me a shortcut to reach a human. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

I'm in a similar situation waiting for my identity verification to be processed. From what I've read in other posts here, it can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on how backed up they are. Some people have had success calling after 24-48 hours since the documents should show up in their system by then, and a Tier 2 rep might be able to expedite the process. I'd recommend checking your UI Online account regularly for any status updates and be patient - I know it's frustrating when you need the funds! Keep us posted on how it goes.

EDD phone nightmare - called for 2 weeks straight and can't get through to anyone!

I'm about to lose my mind trying to reach EDD! I've been calling religiously every single day for TWO WEEKS and it's the same automated message every time - 'we're receiving more calls than we can answer.' I've tried every trick in the book - calling right when they open at 8am, calling mid-day, calling 30 minutes before closing. I even attempted the Spanish line (don't speak Spanish but was desperate) and STILL got the same message! My claim has been pending for almost a month now with no explanation, and I need to talk to an actual human being to figure out what's going on. Rent is due in 3 days and I literally have $127 in my account. Has anyone successfully gotten through recently? What's the secret? Should I just camp outside an EDD office at this point? I'm willing to try ANYTHING at this point.

UPDATE: I finally got through!!! I tried the 1-2-4-3 button sequence that someone suggested here, and after 3 attempts and 67 minutes on hold, I spoke with a real person! Turns out my claim was pending because they needed additional verification of my employment separation (my employer contested it - thanks a lot guys). The rep escalated it to a supervisor who approved my claim on the spot. My payment should be processed within 48 hours. For anyone else struggling - KEEP TRYING. The button sequence definitely helped get past the 'too many calls' message. And seriously, thank you all for the advice and support. This community is amazing.

So glad you finally got through! That's such a relief, especially with rent due soon. It's crazy that your employer contested it - that definitely explains why it was taking so long. Thanks for updating us with what worked, the 1-2-4-3 sequence seems to be the real deal. I'm going to save this post for future reference in case I ever need it. Hope your payment comes through quickly!

Will I owe EDD back payments if I return to former employer after collecting unemployment?

Hey everyone, I'm in a weird situation and not sure what the rules are. I was laid off from my healthcare admin job in 2023 due to department restructuring and collected unemployment for about 7 months. Recently, my former supervisor reached out saying they're expanding again and mentioned I'm 'eligible for rehire' according to their system. They're offering me a position similar to my old one but with slightly different responsibilities. Here's what I'm worried about - if I accept this job offer, would EDD consider this some kind of proof that I shouldn't have received benefits in the first place? Would I suddenly get hit with an overpayment notice demanding I repay all that money from 2023? The layoff was legitimate and I've been working elsewhere (lower paying job) for the past year. The thought of owing $14,500+ in back benefits is making me hesitant about taking what would otherwise be a good opportunity. Has anyone gone back to a former employer after collecting UI without problems?

dude they literally dont care if u go back. i quit my job (didnt even get laid off) didnt qualify for unemployment, then ended up getting rehired at the same place 3 months later when they were desperate. EDD has bigger fish to fry than someone who legitimately got laid off 2 years ago lol

That's not the same situation at all. OP actually got benefits, you didn't. So your experience isn't really relevant here...

I went through something very similar! I was laid off from a tech company in 2022, collected UI for about 5 months, and then got rehired by the same company in 2023 when they got new funding. I was terrified about the same thing you're worried about. Here's what I learned: EDD only cares about whether your original claim was legitimate at the time you filed it. Since you were actually laid off due to restructuring (not fired for cause or quit), you were entitled to those benefits regardless of what happens later. The fact that you've been working elsewhere for a year actually strengthens your case - it shows there was no pre-arrangement with your former employer. You were genuinely unemployed and actively seeking work. I never heard anything from EDD about my situation, and it's been over a year now. Your circumstances sound even more clear-cut than mine were. I'd say go for the opportunity - don't let fear of an overpayment hold you back from advancing your career!
