EDD phone nightmare - called for 2 weeks straight and can't get through to anyone!

I'm about to lose my mind trying to reach EDD! I've been calling religiously every single day for TWO WEEKS and it's the same automated message every time - 'we're receiving more calls than we can answer.' I've tried every trick in the book - calling right when they open at 8am, calling mid-day, calling 30 minutes before closing. I even attempted the Spanish line (don't speak Spanish but was desperate) and STILL got the same message! My claim has been pending for almost a month now with no explanation, and I need to talk to an actual human being to figure out what's going on. Rent is due in 3 days and I literally have $127 in my account. Has anyone successfully gotten through recently? What's the secret? Should I just camp outside an EDD office at this point? I'm willing to try ANYTHING at this point.

same boat here!! been trying for 10 days straight and nothing. its like they dont even have real ppl working there anymore lol

It's seriously ridiculous. How are we supposed to resolve issues if we can't even get through??

I had the EXACT same problem last month and literally wanted to throw my phone through a window. I found out the trick is to call the main number, then when the automated system answers, press 1-2-4 right away in sequence. Then wait through all the prompts, and when they ask about UI Online, press 3 instead of 1. For some reason this route has fewer callers and I got through after only 45 minutes on hold. Worth a try!

THANK YOU! I'm going to try this first thing tomorrow morning. Did you have to do this multiple times or did it work the first try?

It took me 3 attempts that day but eventually worked. The key is to do it early - like 8:01am sharp.

The EDD phone system is notoriously overwhelmed, especially at the beginning of each month when most people are trying to resolve certification or payment issues. A few technical points to understand: 1. The main EDD lines receive approximately 300,000+ calls per day with capacity to handle only about 10% of those 2. The 8-12 morning window is actually their highest volume time, contrary to what many believe 3. If your claim shows 'pending', it likely requires manual review by a tier 2 specialist, not just any representative If you need to speak with someone quickly, I would recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was skeptical at first, but after weeks of failed attempts, they connected me to an EDD representative within 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Otherwise, mid-week (Tuesday-Thursday) between 1-3pm tends to have slightly better odds for getting through on your own.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I didn't realize so many people were calling every day! That actually makes me feel a tiny bit better knowing it's not just me. I've never heard of Claimyr before - I'll check out that video. At this point I'm willing to try anything if it means getting my claim sorted before I can't pay rent.

THEY DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE!!! I tried going to the office in person last month and they turned me away saying all claim issues have to be handled by phone or online now. It's RIDICULOUS that they force us to use a phone system that DOESN'T WORK!! I've been trying to reach them for 3 weeks about an overpayment notice that THEY MADE THE MISTAKE ON and can't get anyone. The whole system is designed to make people give up!!!!!

I've worked with EDD claims for years, and unfortunately this phone situation has gotten worse since 2025 started. Here's what's actually happening: when your claim shows 'pending' for over 3 weeks, it's almost always because it's been flagged for one of these reasons: 1. Income verification issue 2. Identity verification pending 3. Eligibility interview needed 4. Potential overlap with another claim type The regular tier 1 reps often can't help with these anyway. You need a tier 2 specialist. While the phone methods others suggested might work, you should also: 1. Send a secure message through UI Online specifically mentioning how long you've been pending and that you need urgent assistance due to financial hardship 2. Check your UI Online inbox daily - sometimes they schedule phone interviews but the notification gets missed 3. Complete any outstanding tasks in your UI Online account If you do get through by phone, immediately ask for a tier 2 specialist and explain your claim has been pending for nearly a month. Regular reps will often just tell you to wait longer.

This is incredibly helpful information! I didn't even realize there were different tiers of representatives. I just sent a message through UI Online with the details you suggested. Thank you so much for explaining what might actually be happening with my claim. At least now I have some direction.

Just wanted to update everyone on what worked for me last week when I was in the exact same situation. After trying for days, I used Claimyr and got through to EDD in about 15 minutes. The rep told me my claim was pending because they needed to verify my last employer (even though I had submitted all the documentation). She fixed it on the spot and my payment was released the next day. Definitely worth it when rent is on the line!

did u have to gve them a bunch of personal info?? seems sketchy

UPDATE: I finally got through!!! I tried the 1-2-4-3 button sequence that someone suggested here, and after 3 attempts and 67 minutes on hold, I spoke with a real person! Turns out my claim was pending because they needed additional verification of my employment separation (my employer contested it - thanks a lot guys). The rep escalated it to a supervisor who approved my claim on the spot. My payment should be processed within 48 hours. For anyone else struggling - KEEP TRYING. The button sequence definitely helped get past the 'too many calls' message. And seriously, thank you all for the advice and support. This community is amazing.

So glad you finally got through! That's such a relief, especially with rent due soon. It's crazy that your employer contested it - that definitely explains why it was taking so long. Thanks for updating us with what worked, the 1-2-4-3 sequence seems to be the real deal. I'm going to save this post for future reference in case I ever need it. Hope your payment comes through quickly!

This is such great news! I'm so happy you finally got through and got your claim resolved. It's absolutely ridiculous that employers can just contest claims like that and put people through financial stress while it gets sorted out. But I'm glad the community advice worked out for you - that 1-2-4-3 sequence is definitely going in my notes too. Hopefully your payment comes through quickly and you can get caught up on everything. Thanks for following up and letting us know what worked!

That's fantastic news! I'm so relieved you finally got through and got your claim resolved. The employer contesting it explains everything - that's actually pretty common unfortunately, and it can add weeks to the process. I'm definitely bookmarking that 1-2-4-3 sequence for future reference. It's stories like yours that give the rest of us hope when we're stuck in EDD limbo. Thanks for taking the time to update everyone - it really helps to know what actually works! Fingers crossed your payment processes smoothly and you can get back on track financially.

This gives me so much hope! I'm actually dealing with a similar situation right now - been calling for over a week and my claim has been pending for 3 weeks. My former employer has been giving me the runaround about some paperwork, so I'm wondering if they contested mine too. I'm definitely going to try that 1-2-4-3 sequence tomorrow morning. It's so frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to, but hearing success stories like yours keeps me motivated to keep trying. Thank you for sharing the update!

Wow, what a rollercoaster! I'm so glad you finally got through and figured out what was going on with your claim. It's absolutely infuriating that employers can contest claims and leave people hanging financially while it gets sorted out - especially when you're already stressed about money. That 1-2-4-3 sequence is going straight into my emergency contacts list! It's amazing how this community comes together to share these little hacks that actually work. I hope your payment processes quickly and you can breathe a little easier. Thanks for following up with the resolution - it gives hope to everyone else dealing with this nightmare system!

I'm so happy to see this success story! As someone new to dealing with EDD, this whole thread has been incredibly eye-opening. I had no idea that employers could contest claims or that there were different tiers of representatives. The 1-2-4-3 sequence seems to be the golden ticket everyone's talking about - I'm definitely saving that for when I inevitably need to call them. It's really reassuring to know that persistence actually pays off and that there are people in this community willing to share what works. Congratulations on getting your claim resolved, and thank you for taking the time to update everyone!

This thread has been such a lifesaver! I've been lurking in this community for a while but finally decided to create an account after seeing all the helpful advice here. I'm currently on week 3 of trying to reach EDD about my pending claim, and reading everyone's experiences makes me feel less alone in this nightmare. The 1-2-4-3 button sequence is definitely going to be my strategy tomorrow morning - I've been just hitting random buttons hoping something would work! It's incredible how broken this system is, but it's equally incredible how this community comes together to help each other navigate it. Thank you all for sharing your tips and experiences, especially those who come back to update with what actually worked. Fingers crossed I'll have a success story to share soon too!
