Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my DE 429D form from EDD. The Notice of Computation shows my total wages are incorrect. Has anyone else dealt with this before? I'm not sure how to proceed and it's been a real headache trying to get through to someone at EDD. Any advice would be appreciated!
Hey everyone, I'm in a really stressful situation and could use some advice from people who've been through this. I lost my job back in October 2022 (10/22/22) but I didn't file for unemployment until TODAY (over the phone). The rep approved my claim to start on 12/31/2024, but now I have an interview scheduled to determine if I can get backpay for all those months I didn't file. I was honestly struggling with severe depression after losing my job in healthcare (was a medical assistant for 6 years) and didn't even think about filing. Plus I had some savings and was staying with family for a while. But now I'm really hurting financially and those 14 months of benefits would be life-changing. Has anyone successfully gotten backpay approved after such a long filing delay? What counts as "good cause" in the interview? The agent mentioned something about needing a solid reason, but I'm not sure what EDD actually accepts. My interview is next week and I'm so nervous about saying the wrong thing. Any tips on how to prepare or what documentation to have ready? Really appreciate any help!
wait im confused bout something... u said ur claim starts 12/31/2024??? thats in the future? did u mean 2023?
I went through a similar backpay interview about 8 months ago for a 10-month delay. Here's what helped me prepare: 1. Write down a detailed timeline of your mental health struggles and how they specifically prevented you from filing - be very specific about symptoms (couldn't concentrate, overwhelming anxiety about paperwork, etc.) 2. Bring any medical records you have, even just therapy visit summaries or notes from your primary care doctor mentioning depression/anxiety 3. Practice explaining what changed that made you able to file now - this was a big question in my interview 4. If you have any texts, emails, or documentation from your employer about your termination or benefits, bring those too The interviewer in my case was actually pretty understanding when I explained how my depression made even simple tasks feel impossible. I got approved for 8 out of 10 months of backpay. The key is being honest and showing that your mental health genuinely prevented you from filing, not just that you "forgot" or "didn't feel like it." You've got this! The fact that you're preparing and asking for advice shows you're taking it seriously.
I'm in a tight spot with my EDD appeal and need urgent advice! My disqualification letter says I have until today (5/12/25) to submit my appeal. I finally got the supporting documents from my previous employer (took them forever!) but now I'm confused about the submission process.\n\nThe instructions on my notice say:\n1. Complete the appeal form\n2. Mail the form/letter to the address listed (Irvine office)\n3. File your appeal within 30 days (by 5/12/25)\n\nWhat's throwing me off is the wording - it mentions both "mailing" and "filing" the appeal. Does postmarking it today count as meeting the deadline? Or do I need to physically drive to Irvine and hand-deliver it before they close?\n\nI planned to just send it certified mail today, but now I'm panicking that might not be enough. Has anyone dealt with appeal deadlines recently? Is mailing it today sufficient or am I going to have to make the drive? Really appreciate any quick responses!
Thanks for the heads up! This whole process has been so much more complicated than I expected. I'm trying to prepare myself mentally for a long wait. Really appreciate everyone's advice here - feeling much more informed about what to expect.
Just wanted to share my recent experience with EDD appeals to help anyone else in this situation. I submitted my appeal via certified mail and it worked perfectly - the postmark date was absolutely what counted. The key things that helped me were: 1) Getting it postmarked on the deadline day, 2) Using certified mail with return receipt, and 3) keeping detailed copies of everything I sent. My appeal took about 6 weeks to get scheduled for a hearing, but the whole process went smoothly once I had that postmark proof. Don't stress too much about the mailing vs hand delivery - the postal service date is legally sufficient according to California law. Good luck to everyone dealing with these appeals!
I finally completed my ID.me verification after THREE attempts (webcam issues kept causing failures). EDD website now shows my claim as approved, but I'm still waiting for my Money Network debit card to arrive. It's been 9 days since verification was accepted. The EDD website says 7-10 business days for card delivery, but I'm getting anxious because rent is due next week. Do they email any tracking info? Is there a way to check card shipping status? How long did everyone else wait after identity verification before receiving their cards?
Now that one of your payments has switched to "paid" status, that's a very good sign! The card is likely already in the mail. Since this is your first benefit payment, most people receive their card within 5-7 days after the payment status changes to "paid." Just make sure to activate the card immediately when it arrives by calling the number on the sticker. Then create your Money Network account online to manage your funds and set up direct deposit if desired. For future reference, all subsequent payments will be automatically loaded onto this same card or transferred to your bank account if you set up direct deposit.
I'm in a similar boat - just finished ID verification 6 days ago and anxiously waiting for my card! Reading through these responses is really reassuring. I had no idea about the Money Network phone number (855-291-0202) so I'm definitely going to try calling them tomorrow to at least confirm if my card has been mailed. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you're counting on that money for basic expenses. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and timelines - it helps to know this delay is totally normal even though EDD's "7-10 business days" seems optimistic!
Is anyone else's State Disability Insurance payment late this week? I've been on SDI for 3 months after my surgery and payments have been super consistent - hitting my account every Wednesday around 9pm like clockwork. Well, it's now Thursday afternoon and nothing has shown up in my bank account. The weird part is when I log into my SDI Online portal, there's no payment even showing as issued for this week. Usually it at least shows as 'paid' in the system before it hits my account. I'm getting really stressed because my rent is due Monday and I was counting on this payment. I tried calling the SDI customer service line but got the dreaded 'all representatives are currently busy' message and it disconnected me after 45 minutes on hold. Has anyone experienced payment delays recently or know if there's some system issue happening? I'm wondering if I should resubmit my certification or if that would just mess things up more.
UPDATE: My payment just showed up as processed in the SDI Online portal about 10 minutes ago! It says payment issued 4/17/2025 (today), so it should hit my account overnight or tomorrow morning. Check your portals everyone - looks like they're starting to process the delayed payments!
Mine is showing as processed now too! What a relief. Though I really wish they'd communicate better about these issues. It's so stressful not knowing if or when money you depend on will arrive.
Mine is STILL not processed!!! This is exactly what happened last time before they randomly disqualified me and I had to appeal!! I'm calling again tomorrow morning!!
@Mohamed Anderson don t'panic just yet! The status page mentioned they re'processing payments in batches throughout today and tomorrow. Since some people are already seeing theirs processed, it sounds like they re'working through the backlog. Maybe try checking again in a few hours before calling? But definitely call tomorrow morning if it s'still not showing as processed by then.

OP, what industry do you work in? Some industries (like restaurant work) are more prone to wage reporting errors.

I went through this exact same issue about 6 months ago! The key thing that worked for me was requesting a "wage detail report" directly from EDD - it shows exactly what employers reported vs what you actually earned. You can request it by calling the UI customer service line or through UI Online. Once I had that report, I could see exactly where the discrepancy was (turned out one of my employers had reported the wrong quarters). Then I followed Zara's advice about mailing documentation. The whole process took about 6 weeks but they did correct it. Don't give up - you've got this! ๐ช
