One more thing to be aware of - if EDD determines you were misclassified, they might go after the touring company for unpaid unemployment insurance contributions. This could potentially cause issues if you want to work with them again in the future. Just something to consider before proceeding.
oh i forgot to say make sure u certify every 2 weeks!!!!! if u miss certifying they dont pay u and its a hassle to get backpay
Just wanted to add - when you're caring for a sick family member while working reduced hours, you might also want to look into State Disability Insurance (SDI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) as additional options. These are separate from unemployment but can provide benefits in certain caregiving situations. The EDD manages these programs too. Also, be prepared that there might be a phone interview to verify your eligibility. Make sure you answer when they call (typically shows as "St of CA EDD" or an unknown number).
my payment was late last week to. i think they sometimes have issues with the payment processing company or whatever. usually sorts itself out by wed at the latest. dont stress out yet
Update: EDD just posted on Twitter that all pending payments from yesterday and today should be processed by end of business day. They apologized for the delay and mentioned it was related to their quarterly system update. For future reference, their Twitter account (@CA_EDD) often has the most current status updates when these kinds of delays happen.
Just wanted to share my experience - when I filed a new claim after my benefit year ended in January, they did NOT send me a new card. The funds were loaded onto my existing Bank of America EDD card. However, I did receive a letter in the mail about a week after my first payment was processed confirming that my existing card would be used. So you might get similar confirmation soon.

•YES! You must report ALL work and earnings when certifying, including gig work, side jobs, cash jobs, EVERYTHING. For gig work like DoorDash, you report your gross earnings (before their fees) for the week you performed the work. If you don't, it's considered fraud and you risk penalties and overpayment assessments when they catch up to you.

Thank you all for the helpful advice! Just to make sure I understand correctly: 1. I'll answer 'no' on this Sunday's certification since I haven't started working yet 2. On my next certification, I'll answer 'yes' and report all hours/wages even though I might not have received my first paycheck yet 3. I'll check the box to stop my claim since this is full-time employment 4. Probation period has no relevance to EDD reporting requirements I feel much better about this now. Really appreciate all the guidance!
