PFL claim stuck for 6 weeks, previous SDI claim still open - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my disability claim and PFL. I submitted my PFL claim 6 weeks ago, but it hasn't been processed yet. I noticed my previous disability claim is still showing as open even though it has an end date. Could this be why my PFL claim is stuck? Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Any advice on what to say when I call them?

Ugh, I feel your pain. The system is so messed up. I had a similar issue last year. You definitely need to get that disability claim closed properly. Here's what I'd suggest saying: "Hi, I'm calling about my PFL claim that I submitted 6 weeks ago. It hasn't been processed yet, and I think it might be because my previous disability claim is still showing as open even though it has an end date. Can you please check on this and make sure the disability claim is closed correctly so my PFL can be processed?

•Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I'll definitely use this when I call them. Did it take long for your issue to get resolved once you called?

•No problem! Happy to help. It took about a week after I called for everything to get sorted out. Just make sure you stay on top of it and don't be afraid to call back if you don't see any changes in a few days.

•This is solid advice. I'd also recommend taking notes during the call - write down the name of who you spoke to and any case numbers they give you. It'll help if you need to follow up later.

I swear, dealing with these claims is like a full-time job itself 🤦♂️ The system is so broken, it's ridiculous. I've been waiting on my claim for 2 months now. Good luck, OP!

Have you tried checking your claim status online? Sometimes the website has more up-to-date info than what they tell you over the phone.

•Yeah, I've been checking online every day. It just says 'pending' with no other details. So frustrating!

•Oof, that sucks. Sounds like you definitely need to call then. Fingers crossed you get someone helpful on the line!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Wow, that sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

•It really does work! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. I only had to wait about 15 minutes after I got the call. Way better than spending hours on hold.

•Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency we fund with our taxes? Seems kinda sketchy to me.

•I get where you're coming from, but for me, time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste half a day on hold. Plus, it's not like the money goes to the government - it's a private service.

Here's a pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. The wait times are usually shorter then. Also, be super nice to the person who answers - they deal with angry people all day and are more likely to go the extra mile if you're pleasant.

Listen up, folks. I've been through this rodeo before, and here's what you need to know: 1. Document everything. Every call, every letter, every online status change. This will be crucial if you need to escalate. 2. Be persistent but polite. Call regularly, but don't lose your cool with the agents. They're just doing their job. 3. Use multiple channels. Phone, online portal, even snail mail if you have to. Sometimes info gets lost in one system but shows up in another. 4. Know your rights. Read up on the official PFL and disability guidelines. Knowledge is power. 5. Consider reaching out to your local state representative. They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with these issues. 6. If all else fails, file a formal complaint. There's usually a process for this on the department's website. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Don't give up!

•The local rep tip is gold. My cousin did this and her claim was magically processed within a week.

has anyone else noticed that the website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? 🙄 like, get it together already!

•OMG YES! It's always down on weekends too, when I actually have time to deal with this stuff. So annoying!

Just a heads up, I've heard they're super backed up right now due to some new system update. Might be why your claim is taking so long. Hang in there!
