PFL claim issues: Sent docs but now hearing about appeal form? EDD never mentioned it!
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my paid family leave claim. I sent in my primary doctor's diploma and license ID for verification, but now I'm hearing there might be an appeal form involved? When I called before, they didn't mention anything about an appeal. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm not sure what to do next or if I'm missing something important.

Ugh, the bureaucracy is real š I had a similar issue with my claim. Turns out there were like 3 different forms I needed to submit that no one told me about. It's like they want us to fail or something.

ā¢Preach! š The system is designed to be confusing af. Makes you wonder if they do it on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits.

ā¢For real tho. I spent hours on the phone just trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. It's a full-time job just dealing with this stuff!

Pro tip: Always ask for a supervisor when you call. They usually know more about the process and can give you better info. Also, document EVERYTHING. Every call, every piece of paper you send in. It'll save your butt later.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

ā¢Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

ā¢How long did it take for them to get through?

ā¢For me, it took about 45 minutes. But I've heard it can vary depending on how busy they are. Still way better than doing it yourself tho

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: ⢠First, call them back and specifically ask about the appeal form. Don't let them off the phone until they give you a straight answer. ⢠If there is an appeal form, ask them to email or mail it to you immediately. ⢠While you're waiting for the form, gather ALL your documentation. I mean everything - medical records, pay stubs, the works. ⢠Fill out the appeal form ASAP. Be thorough and specific. ⢠Send the form back with certified mail so you have proof they received it. ⢠Follow up within a week to make sure they got everything. ⢠If you don't hear back in 2 weeks, start calling again. Remember, persistence is key. Don't let them give you the runaround. Good luck!

ā¢Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Quick question - do you know if there's a deadline for submitting the appeal form?

ā¢Usually, there's a 30-day window from when they make a decision. But don't wait! The sooner you get it in, the better. And np, we're all in this boat together š

This might sound crazy, but have you tried faxing your documents? I know, welcome to 1995 𤣠But seriously, when I faxed my stuff, it seemed to get processed faster. Worth a shot!

ā¢omg yes! I thought I was the only one who still used a fax machine for this stuff. It's like they're stuck in a time warp or smthn

Just a heads up, I've heard they've been really backed up lately due to staff shortages. Might explain why you're getting conflicting info. Hang in there!

Wait, they asked for your doctor's diploma and license ID? That seems really unusual for a PFL claim. Normally they just need medical certification from your doctor, not their credentials. Are you sure you're dealing with the right department? This sounds like it might be a different type of claim or verification process. I'd double-check that you're actually filing for paid family leave and not something else, because this doesn't sound right to me.
