< Back to California Paid Family Leave

PFL claim filed in September, still no update. Called EDD, no help. What to do?

Has anyone else been waiting forever for an update on their paid family leave claim? I filed back in September and still haven't heard anything. Called today to check on the status but it wasn't helpful at all. Starting to get really frustrated with this whole process. Any advice on how to actually get some answers?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been waiting since August for mine. The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️ Have you tried contacting your local representative? I've heard that can sometimes help speed things up.

I second this! My state rep's office was actually super helpful when I was stuck in limbo with my claim. Def worth a shot.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try. Did you just call their office or send an email?

I sent an email first with all the details, then followed up with a call a few days later. Good luck!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Just sharing what helped me out 🤷‍♂️

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update the status there before they actually contact you. Worth a shot if you haven't already!

lol welcome to the club 🙃 I've been waiting since July and at this point I'm pretty sure they've just forgotten about me. The whole system is a joke.

Same boat here. It's like they're playing hide and seek with our claims 🤡

Here's what worked for me after months of waiting: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, emails, and online account updates. 2. Be persistent. Call every week if you have to. 3. Use the magic words "financial hardship" when you talk to them. It can sometimes get your claim flagged for expedited processing. 4. If all else fails, contact your state representative or senator. They often have staff dedicated to helping with these issues. 5. Consider filing a formal complaint with the department if it's been an unreasonable amount of time. Hang in there, OP. The system sucks, but don't give up!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try the "financial hardship" angle. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out.

Have you tried faxing your documents? I know it sounds ridiculous in 2023, but I swear it got my claim moving when nothing else worked.
