PFL application stuck in EDD limbo for 2 weeks, rent due soon. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm freaking out a bit here. I submitted my PFL application two weeks ago and haven't heard anything back from EDD. My rent is due this weekend and I really need this application processed ASAP. Anyone else dealing with similar delays? Any advice on how to speed things up?

Ugh, I feel your pain. EDD is notoriously slow these days. Have you tried calling them? Sometimes that can help move things along.

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration.

•I get it, but for me it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting so much time trying to get through.

Ugh, I feel you. EDD is a nightmare rn. I waited almost a month for my PFL to process. Have you tried calling them? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help expedite EDD claims.

•I get the frustration, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. It's either this or keep banging your head against the wall trying to get through.

Two weeks isnt that long tbh. I waited 6 weeks before I heard anything back. The system is overwhelmed rn

•6 weeks?! That's insane. I can't wait that long, my bills are piling up 😭

•I know, it sucks. Maybe try explaining your situation to your landlord? Some are willing to work with you if you show them proof of your pending claim.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update stuff there before they send out notices.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep calling EDD every day. Use the trick of calling right at 8:01 AM when they open. 2. Send a message through your EDD online account. Sometimes they respond faster to written inquiries. 3. Contact your local assembly member or state senator's office. They have liaisons who can often speed things up. 4. If you're really desperate, consider using a paid service like Claimyr to get through on the phone. 5. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact EDD. 6. Check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes EDD emails end up there. 7. If you have any missing documents or information they might need, proactively send it in. Hang in there. The system is frustrating, but persistence usually pays off eventually.

OK, let me break this down for you. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. Keep calling. Yes, it sucks, but persistence pays off. Try different times of the day. 2. Check your online account religiously. Sometimes they update info there first. 3. Make sure all your docs are in order. Any missing piece can delay the whole process. 4. If you're really in a bind, contact your local assemblyperson's office. They can sometimes expedite things. 5. Document everything. Every call, every letter, every online update. This can help if you need to escalate later. 6. Consider using one of those paid services to get through on the phone if you're desperate. Some folks here have had luck with that. 7. Reach out to local non-profits or churches if you need help with rent while waiting. Some have emergency assistance programs. Hang in there. The system is a mess, but you'll get through this. 💪

Unpopular opinion: maybe start looking for work while you wait? PFL isn't guaranteed and bills don't pay themselves...

Oof, PFL delays are the worst. When I was waiting, I ended up taking a cash advance on my credit card to cover rent. Not ideal, but it bought me some time. Just be prepared to pay it back ASAP when your benefits come through.

•Be careful with cash advances tho, the interest rates are usually insane 😬

•True that. It's def a last resort move.

idk if this helps, but I got my landlord to give me an extension when I showed them my PFL application confirmation. Maybe worth a shot?

This might sound crazy, but have you tried reaching out to EDD on social media? I tweeted at them and surprisingly got a response pretty quick. Worth a shot! 🤷♂️

Ugh, I feel ya. The whole system needs an overhaul. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get the benefits we're entitled to. Hang in there, OP!
