CA EDD PFL application stuck for 2+ weeks - need urgent help to get it approved!
I applied for California EDD Paid Family Leave over 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back. I'm getting worried and need to talk to someone at the PFL office ASAP to figure out how to get my application approved. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to speed things up or what I should ask when I finally get through to someone?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last month. It took them almost 3 weeks to get back to me! When you do get through, make sure you ask about specific processing timelines and if there are any missing documents. That's what held mine up.

β’Thanks for the tip! Did you just keep calling until you got through? I've been trying for days with no luck.

β’Yeah, it was a nightmare. I spent hours on hold over several days. But I finally found a trick that worked! I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the menu, waits on hold, and then calls you when a real person picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me so much time and frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

β’Wait, seriously? $20 to avoid being on hold? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

β’I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Totally worth it to avoid the hold music hell πΆπ«

Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you call. Have your claim number, social security number, and any relevant dates handy. Also, be prepared to explain why you need the leave. The more organized you are, the smoother the call will go.

Here's what you need to do to get your PFL application approved ASAP: 1. Double-check your application: Make sure you've filled out everything correctly and included all required documents. Common missing items include medical certification and proof of relationship for bonding claims. 2. Follow up regularly: Call the PFL office every few days. Be polite but persistent. 3. Use online resources: Check your claim status online and respond to any requests for additional information promptly. 4. Know your rights: Familiarize yourself with PFL eligibility requirements and benefit calculations. This will help you advocate for yourself. 5. Consider contacting your local state representative: They can sometimes help expedite claims. 6. Document everything: Keep a log of all your calls, including dates, times, and names of representatives you speak with. 7. Be prepared for your call: Have your claim number, social security number, and a clear, concise explanation of your situation ready. Remember, the process can be frustrating, but stay calm and professional. Good luck!

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You're more likely to get through and the reps aren't burnt out yet.

Ugh, the EDD is the worst. I had to appeal my claim and it took MONTHS. Hang in there, OP. And start looking into food banks and other resources just in case... hate to say it, but you might need them π

Anyone else notice that ever since they "upgraded" their system last year, everything's been even slower? π€ I miss the old website, at least it worked most of the time.

Hey OP, what reason did you put for your PFL? If it's for bonding with a new child, make sure you've included the birth certificate or adoption papers. That held up my claim for weeks!

β’It's actually to care for my sick mother. Do you know if I need anything special for that?

β’Ah gotcha. For care claims, you need a medical certification from your mom's doctor. Make sure that's filled out completely and submitted ASAP if you haven't already!

β’@Emma Taylor is absolutely right about the medical certification! I went through the same thing for my dad last year. The form needs to be completely filled out by the doctor - don t'leave ANY sections blank or they ll'send it back. Also, make sure the doctor clearly states that your mom needs care and that you re'the one providing it. That s'what they re'really looking for.
