EDD PFL sent me a letter to call them - what to expect?

Hey everyone, I just got a letter from EDD about my Paid Family Leave claim. They're asking me to give them a call. I'm not sure what it's about exactly, but I think it might be related to my current payment status. Has anyone else gotten something like this recently? What should I expect when I call them?

Ugh, I got one of those letters too. It's so frustrating because you never know what they want until you actually get through to someone. Could be anything from verifying info to explaining a delay in payments. Good luck getting through tho, their phone lines are always jammed šŸ™„

fr fr šŸ’Æ I spent like 3 hours on hold last week just to get disconnected. EDD's phone system is a joke

Pro tip: call right when they open. I usually have better luck getting through early in the morning.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try calling first thing tomorrow. Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then sends the call to your phone when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate after trying to get through for weeks. It saved me so much time and frustration.

20 bucks tho? That's kinda steep just to make a phone call...

I get it, but for me it was worth it. I was losing way more than $20 in wasted time and stress trying to get through on my own.

Here's what you need to know about those EDD letters: • They usually send them for additional info or to clarify something on your claim • Common reasons: income verification, identity confirmation, or explaining gaps in employment • Have all your docs ready before you call (paystubs, ID, etc.) • Write down your questions beforehand so you don't forget anything • Be patient and polite with the rep, they're usually trying their best • Take notes during the call, including the rep's name and any case numbers • Ask for next steps and timeframes for resolution Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

It's not just you. The system is definitely outdated and overwhelmed. But hang in there, we're all in the same boat!

Quick question - how long ago did you apply for PFL? I'm about to submit my claim and wondering how long the whole process usually takes.

0 coins

I applied about 3 weeks ago. Still waiting on my first payment tho. From what I've heard, it can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on your situation.

Oof, that's longer than I hoped. Thanks for the info!

Anyone else notice that EDD seems to be sending out more of these letters lately? I wonder if theyre doing some kinda audit or something šŸ¤”

Now that you mention it, I've seen a lot more posts about these letters in the past month or so. Maybe they're cracking down on fraud?

Great, just what we need. More red tape. šŸ™„

Pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling one of the other dept numbers and ask to be transfered. Sometimes works for me!

Ooh, sneaky. I like it. šŸ˜ Which numbers have worked best for you?

The disability insurance line or the employer line usually have shorter wait times. Just be super nice and they might help you out!

Hey @Alexander Zeus! I went through this exact same thing about 2 months ago. When I called, they just needed to verify some employment dates and confirm my doctor's certification was complete. The whole call took maybe 15 minutes once I got through. Don't stress too much about it - in my experience, these letters are usually just routine verification stuff, not anything bad. Just make sure you have your claim number, SSN, and any documents from your doctor handy when you call. You got this! šŸ‘

Thanks so much @Mei Chen! That's really reassuring to hear. I was worried it might be something more serious, but routine verification makes a lot more sense. I'll definitely have all my paperwork ready before I call. Did they give you any timeline for when your payments would resume after the call?

I just went through this same thing last month! Got the dreaded letter and was super anxious about what they wanted. Turns out they just needed me to verify some info about my work schedule and confirm a few details from my initial application. The rep was actually pretty helpful once I got through (took about an hour on hold though). My advice: call early in the morning like others said, have your claim number ready, and don't panic - it's probably just routine stuff. They ended up processing my payment within a few days after the call. Good luck! šŸ¤ž

Thanks @Katherine Ziminski! That's super helpful to know it was just routine verification for you too. An hour on hold isn't fun but at least you got through eventually. Did they ask for any specific documents during the call, or was it all just verbal confirmation of info you'd already submitted?

Just wanted to jump in and share my recent experience! I got a similar letter about 3 weeks ago and was totally freaking out about it. When I finally got through (used the early morning call strategy - worked like a charm!), they just needed to clarify some dates on my medical certification and verify my employer info. The whole conversation was maybe 10 minutes once I actually spoke to someone. They were really professional and explained exactly what they needed. My payments resumed within a week after that call. So don't worry too much @Alexander Zeus - it's most likely just standard verification stuff. Have your documents ready and you'll be fine! šŸ’Ŗ

Thank you so much @Harper Thompson! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I've been stressing about this letter all day, but hearing that it's usually just routine verification stuff really puts my mind at ease. I'll definitely try the early morning call strategy - seems like that's the consensus here. Did you have to provide any additional documentation after the call, or was the verbal verification enough to get everything moving again?

I'm in the exact same boat right now! Just got my letter yesterday and I've been anxiously googling what it could mean. Reading through everyone's experiences here is so reassuring though - sounds like it's usually just verification stuff rather than anything scary. I'm planning to call first thing Monday morning with all my paperwork organized. Has anyone had success with specific times of day? I keep seeing people mention calling right when they open, but I'm wondering if there are any other "sweet spots" during the day when the hold times might be shorter. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences - this community is such a lifesaver! šŸ™

Hey @Tobias Lancaster! I totally get the anxiety - I was in the same spot a few weeks ago when I got my letter. From what I've learned lurking in this community, early morning (right at 8am when they open) seems to be the golden hour. I've also heard some people have luck around lunchtime (12-1pm) when maybe fewer people are calling? But honestly, the morning strategy seems most reliable. One thing that helped me was writing down all my questions beforehand so I wouldn't forget anything once I finally got through. You've got this! Keep us posted on how it goes šŸ’Ŗ
