EDD PFL payment delayed after holiday - when will direct deposit hit?

I submitted my baby bonding PFL claim on January 3rd and still haven't seen any deposit. Usually I get paid faster but I know Monday was a holiday (MLK Day). Has the holiday messed up the processing timeline? My rent is due next week and I'm getting nervous about when the money will show up. The EDD website just shows my claim is "approved" but no payment date. Anyone know how long the holiday delay typically is?

same thing happened to me last year. holiday delays are THE WORST!! i swear edd adds like a week to processing when theres a monday holiday. mine took 10 days instead of the usual 3-4. hang in there!

10 days?! Seriously? That's insane for just one holiday. Did you have to call them or did it just magically appear in your account?

EDD typically processes direct deposits within 24-48 hours after approval on normal business days, but holiday weekends definitely impact their schedule. Since you filed on the 3rd and Monday was a holiday, you're looking at about 7-10 business days total. The system doesn't count holidays or weekends in their processing timeline. I'd expect to see it by this Friday based on current timelines.

not always true tho. my sister got her payment FASTER over Christmas break somehow?? She applied Dec 22 and got paid Dec 27 even with the holiday. EDD is so inconsistent its crazy lol

If your claim shows as "approved" but no payment date, that typically means they've processed your claim but haven't initiated the payment transfer yet. Direct deposits usually take 1-2 business days after they initiate payment. With the Monday holiday, their payment batch processing was likely delayed until Tuesday, which means funds might not hit accounts until Thursday or Friday this week. If you don't see anything by Monday next week, that's when I'd start to worry.

That makes sense! Thank you for explaining. I'll try to be patient until Monday before I start freaking out again... but seriously, why don't they just tell you the payment date on the website? Would make this so much less stressful.

I've had nothing BUT problems with EDD payment processing! Last year I waited THREE WEEKS after approval for my maternity disability to transition to PFL baby bonding. THREE WEEKS!! And every time I called the regular number I'd wait for hours and get disconnected. The whole system is designed to make you give up!!!!!

I had the exact same experience but finally got through to a rep using Claimyr. It's this service that basically waits on hold for you and then calls when an EDD agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration especially with a newborn. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5. When I finally spoke to someone, they found a weird flag on my account that was holding up payment that would've never been fixed if I hadn't reached a live person.

question - are you on regular PFL baby bonding or did you transition from pregnancy disability? because those are totally different timelines in my experience. the transition ones take waaaaay longer

Just regular baby bonding PFL - my husband is actually the one who had pregnancy disability (he broke his leg badly right before birth lol), and I'm taking the baby bonding leave. So it should be straightforward!

oh wow that's tough timing with his leg! but yeah then it should be faster for you since there's no transition period to deal with. my first payment came 5 business days after approval notification

Just to follow up - did your payment arrive yet? The holiday backlog should be processed by now. If it's been approved for more than 7 business days without payment, you might want to call.

YES! It finally showed up this morning! What a relief. You were right about the Friday timeline. Thanks everyone for the help and keeping me sane through the wait!

So glad to hear your payment came through! The waiting game with EDD is absolutely nerve-wracking, especially when you have bills due. For anyone else reading this - it seems like the MLK Day holiday really did push everything back about a week from normal processing times. Good to know for future reference that holiday Mondays can mess with their whole system like that.
