EDD PFL Application: No Response After 3 Weeks - Normal Wait Time?
I applied for paid parent leave almost 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back about my status. I submitted my application on May 20th and got an email confirming it was received, but that's it. Has anyone else experienced long wait times like this? I'm starting to get worried and don't know what to do next. Any advice would be appreciated!

I had a similar situation and ended up getting a small loan just to get by. It's so tough for those waiting on these claims.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from EDD end up there. It's a long shot, but worth checking!

That's a good idea. I haven't checked, but will do that now. Thanks!

Three weeks? You sweet summer child... π I've been waiting for 2 months now. The EDD is slower than a sloth on vacation. Buckle up, it's gonna be a long ride!

I heard from a friend that their application was processed after three months, but it was during the holiday season. Hopefully, yours won't take that long!

Welcome to the wonderful world of bureaucracy! π I hate to break it to you, but 3 weeks is nothing. I applied for my leave 2 months ago and I'm still waiting. It's like they're using carrier pigeons to process these applications or something.

Hang in there, OP! The waiting game sucks, but your leave will come through eventually. In the meantime, try to enjoy your time with your little one. They grow up so fast! πΆπ

Anyone else notice how the EDD website looks like it was designed in 1995 and never updated? π»π΄ It's like stepping into a time machine every time I log in!

For real tho. You'd think with all the taxes we pay, they could at least hire a decent web designer π

It's like they don't want people to use it. I'd rather fill out a paper form at this point!

Preach! π It's like they forget we have bills to pay and mouths to feed. The whole system needs an overhaul.

I know right?? It's almost like they're trying to discourage people from applying. So frustrating!

I feel like there's no accountability. If we were this slow at our jobs, we'd be out of work!

Plot twist: the EDD is actually run by sloths. That's why everything takes so long. π¦₯π¦₯π¦₯

LOL! That would explain so much. Maybe we should start sending them leaves instead of documents? π

Nah, sloths would be faster. I think it's a team of snails. π

Hey there! I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Here's what you need to know: β’ The standard processing time for paid family leave applications is typically 2-3 weeks, but it can take longer during busy periods. β’ If it's been more than 3 weeks, it's definitely worth following up. β’ First, check your online account (if you have one) for any updates or requests for additional information. β’ If there's nothing there, your next step should be to call. Yes, it can be frustrating, but it's often the fastest way to get answers. β’ When you call, have your application confirmation number and any other relevant details ready. β’ Be polite but persistent. Sometimes you need to call multiple times to get through. β’ If calling doesn't work, you can also try sending a message through your online account or via mail. Remember, delays don't necessarily mean there's a problem with your application. The system is often overloaded, especially since the pandemic. Hang in there!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! This is really helpful. I'll definitely check my online account and try calling if I don't see any updates there.

This is great advice! One thing to add: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. It might come in handy later if there are any issues.

Adding to this, if you do call, try to write down the names of any representatives you speak with and what they tell you. It can be useful if there are discrepancies later.

Has anyone tried going to their local EDD office in person? I've heard mixed things about whether that helps or not.

I tried that last month. Waited in line for 3 hours only to be told they couldn't help me and I needed to call the main number. Total waste of time.

It worked for me! But I think it depends on your local office and what kind of issue you have. YMMV.

I went to the office once and they were able to give me a form that I didnβt know I needed, so it wasnβt a total loss for me.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! π€

I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me days of frustration. Worth every penny IMO.

How does it work exactly? Do they give you a specific time when you'll get the call?

I've used Claimyr. They don't give a specific time, but you can keep your phone nearby, and they'll send the call right to you when someone answers.

It might be worth considering a service like Claimyr if you're really in need to speak with someone urgently. While $20 might seem steep, it could save you a lot of time and stress. However, always proceed with caution and be mindful of any possible data privacy concerns. It's also important to continue trying official channels as much as possible to ensure your case is registered and documented in the formal system.

Have you tried calling the EDD? Sometimes you can get more info that way, although getting through can be a nightmare.

I haven't tried calling yet. I've heard horror stories about being on hold forever. Is it even worth it?

Calling is def worth it if u can get thru. I was in the same boat, called after 4 weeks of silence and found out they needed additional docs from me. Without that call, I'd still be waiting!

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have to try a few days in a row, but it's your best shot at getting through without a 3-hour hold time.

I once called and had luck getting through during lunchtime. It might work because fewer people try calling then.
