Here's what I've learned after dealing with this for months: 1. Persistence is key. Keep calling, even if it feels hopeless. 2. Try different times of day. Early morning and late afternoon seem to work best. 3. Be prepared with all your info before you call. Have your claim number, ID, and any relevant documents ready. 4. If you get a unhelpful agent, politely end the call and try again. Some are more knowledgeable than others. 5. Consider using a call-back service if you're really stuck. It costs money, but it might be worth it if you're desperate. 6. Check for any Spanish-language community organizations in your area. They might be able to help or provide resources. 7. Document everything. Write down who you talked to, when, and what they said. Hope this helps! Hang in there, OP. We're all in the same boat.
Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try implementing these tips. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out.
This should be pinned or something. Super helpful info!
Have you tried reaching out on social media? Sometimes tweeting at them or messaging on Facebook can get a response.
Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website is down like every other weekend for "scheduled maintenance"? It's almost like they don't want us to file our claims π
omg yes! It's always when I finally have time to deal with this stuff too. So frustrating!
Conspiracy theory: they do it on purpose to reduce the number of claims filed π
Guys, I've been dealing with EDD for 6 months now. Here's my advice: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online interaction. It's saved my butt multiple times when they tried to say I didn't do something I know I did.
have u tried faxing ur docs? I heard that can be faster then mailing
This might sound crazy, but has anyone tried going to an EDD office in person? I'm thinking of driving to one tomorrow cuz I'm so fed up with the phone system.
I tried that last month. Waited in line for 3 hours only to be told they couldn't help with PFL claims in person. Total waste of time π€
Anyone else notice that the EDD website is always "undergoing maintenance" when you actually need to use it? π
Conspiracy theory: the website is never actually under maintenance. They just put that up when too many people are trying to access it at once. π€
Hey OP, what industry do you work in? I've heard some industries are getting processed faster than others.
I work in healthcare. I thought that might speed things up, but apparently not. π€·ββοΈ
Huh, that's surprising. You'd think healthcare workers would be prioritized. The system makes no sense sometimes.

Just a heads up, there was a news article last week saying EDD is experiencing major backlogs due to staff shortages. Might explain the delays everyone's experiencing.

β’The article didn't say, unfortunately. But they're supposedly hiring more staff.
