SDI benefits suddenly stopped - submitted extension certificate, what else to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my SDI benefits. They suddenly stopped coming on October 8th, and I'm not sure what's going on. I've already submitted my physician's certificate for an extension, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I need to do. I'm also concerned about the benefit amount and when I might start receiving payments again. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice would be appreciated!

Ugh, I feel ya. The SDI system is such a mess rn. Have you tried calling them? It's a total nightmare getting through, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

•I've been trying to call for days, but no luck. It's so frustrating! 😤

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins on hold last week.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Here's what you need to know about SDI extensions: 1. Make sure your doctor submitted the right form (DE 2525XX). 2. The extension request should be submitted 5-10 days before your current claim ends. 3. If approved, benefits usually continue without interruption. 4. If there's a gap, you might need to file a new claim. 5. Benefit amounts can change based on your current situation. If it's been more than 2 weeks since you submitted the extension request, definitely try to contact them. The system is swamped, so delays are common, but you don't want to fall through the cracks.

I'm in the same boat, benefits stopped last month. Turns out they needed additional info from my employer. Might be worth checking if that's holding things up for you too.

SDI is the worst. I swear they make it complicated on purpose 🙄 Hang in there OP!

Quick question - did you receive any kind of confirmation when you submitted the extension paperwork? Might help to know if they actually received it.

•Now that you mention it, I don't think I did. That's definitely something I need to follow up on. Thanks!

FYI, there were some changes to the SDI system last month. They're supposedly "streamlining" the process, but it's causing delays for a lot of people. Might be why your payments are held up.

•Classic government "improvement" 🤣 Make everything worse and call it streamlining!

have you tried reaching out to your local state representatives office? They can sometimes help push things along with EDD/SDI

I went through something similar earlier this year. A few things that helped me figure out what was going on: 1. Log into your SDI Online account if you haven't already - sometimes there are notices or requests for additional info that don't get mailed out 2. Check if your extension was actually processed - you should see it reflected in your claim status 3. Sometimes there's a waiting period between when your original benefits end and the extension kicks in, even if approved 4. Make sure your doctor used the most recent version of the form - they updated it a few months ago The good news is that if your extension gets approved, you should get back pay for any missed weeks. But yeah, the waiting and uncertainty is the worst part. Hope you get it sorted out soon!

•This is incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with the same issue right now and hadn't thought to check if there was a form update. Going to log into my online account first thing tomorrow morning. The back pay info gives me hope too - thanks for sharing your experience! 🙏

I had a similar experience last year - my SDI payments just stopped out of nowhere even though I thought everything was filed correctly. Turns out there was a processing backlog and my extension was sitting in limbo for almost 3 weeks. What finally helped was sending a follow-up fax with copies of everything (the extension form, my doctor's notes, etc.) along with a cover letter explaining the situation. I know fax seems old school, but they seem to respond to those faster than online submissions. Also, if you have any documentation showing when you originally submitted the extension, include that too - it helps establish a timeline. The whole process is incredibly stressful when you're depending on those payments. Keep pushing and don't let them forget about your case!
