How to update name on EDD account after marriage? Need advice!
Hey everyone, I just got married and need to update my name on my EDD account. Has anyone gone through this process recently? What should I expect when I call them? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

Congrats on tying the knot! š I went through this last year. Here's what you need to do: ⢠Gather all your documents: marriage certificate, new ID, etc. ⢠When you call, tell them right away you need a name change due to marriage ⢠Be prepared to send in copies of your documents ⢠Follow up if you don't see the change within a couple weeks It's pretty straightforward, but like everything with EDD, it can take some time. Good luck!

ā¢Thank you so much! This is really helpful. Did you have to mail in the documents or could you upload them online?

ā¢In my case, they gave me an option to upload online. But I've heard some ppl had to mail them in. Best to ask the rep when you call!

ā¢make sure u keep copies of EVERYTHING u send them. EDD has a habit of 'losing' documents š

ā¢Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Yep, totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Congrats on the wedding! š Just remember to be patient with EDD. Their system moves slower than a snail on vacation šš

make sure you triple check all your info before submitting anything. one typo and youll be stuck in bureaucratic hell for months

ā¢This. I misspelled my middle name and it took 3 months to fix. EDD doesn't mess around with discrepancies.

Anyone know if changing your name affects your existing claim? I'm in the same boat but worried about messing up my payments

ā¢It shouldn't affect your current claim as long as all your other info (SSN, etc.) stays the same. But def mention this concern when you call!

ā¢Terrible advice. It's important to have consistent legal info across all govt agencies. Don't listen to this clown š¤”

Protip: If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open or about an hour before they close. Sometimes works for me!

Congrats on getting married! š I just went through this process a few months ago. Here's what worked for me: Call the EDD name change line specifically (not the general number) - it's 1-800-300-5616. Have your marriage certificate, new driver's license, and Social Security card ready. They'll likely ask you to fax or upload copies. The whole process took about 2-3 weeks for me once I got through to someone. Also, make sure your name is already updated with Social Security first - EDD won't process it otherwise. Good luck!

ā¢This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't know there was a specific name change line - that could save me a lot of time. Quick question: when you say update with Social Security first, do you mean I need to go to the SSA office in person or can that be done online too?
