EDD says my driver's license is already in use when filing new disability claim - Help!

Hey everyone, I'm having a weird issue with filing a new disability claim. When I try to submit it, the system says my driver's license is already being used. Has anyone else run into this problem? I'm not sure what to do next.

Ugh, that sucks! I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling the EDD office directly? Sometimes their system glitches and they need to reset it on their end.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been trying to call them all day but can't get through. It's so frustrating!

Classic EDD... their phone lines are always jammed. Keep trying tho, early morning usually works best for me.

Pro tip: use a auto-dialer app. It'll keep calling until you get through. Saved me hours of frustration!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep for just a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me days of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Can confirm, I used it last week and got through in like an hour. Way better than sitting on hold all day!

This happened to me too! Turns out someone had stolen my identity and filed a claim using my info. You might wanna check ur credit report and file a police report just in case.

Have you tried logging out completely, clearing your browser cache, and then logging back in? Sometimes thats all it takes to fix weird glitches like this.

I'll give that a shot, thanks! Fingers crossed it works 🤞

The EDD system is such a joke. I swear its held together with duct tape and prayers at this point 🤡

LOL for real tho. It's like they're using Windows 95 or smthn 💀

Hey now, don't insult Windows 95 like that! 😂

Alright, let me break this down for you. I've been dealing with EDD for years and here's what you need to do: 1. First, double-check that you're using the correct driver's license number. It's easy to mistype. 2. If that's correct, you need to contact EDD directly. Their online system is notoriously glitchy. 3. Try calling first thing in the morning, right when they open. That's usually the best time to get through. 4. If you can't get through by phone, send a secure message through your EDD account. Be very specific about the error you're getting. 5. As a last resort, you might need to visit an EDD office in person. Bring all your documentation with you. 6. While you're waiting to resolve this, document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them, screenshot the error message, etc. 7. If you suspect identity theft (which is unfortunately common), place a fraud alert on your credit reports and file a police report. Remember, persistence is key with EDD. Don't give up! And if all else fails, contact your local state representative. They can often help push things through.

This exact same thing happened to me about 6 months ago! Turns out there was an old claim from 2019 that was still showing as "active" in their system even though I'd been back to work for years. The rep had to manually close out the old claim before I could file the new one. Definitely try the calling strategies others mentioned - it took me 3 days of trying but once I got through, they fixed it in like 10 minutes. Super frustrating but totally solvable!

Oh wow, that's really helpful to know! I never would have thought an old claim could still be lingering in the system like that. Did you have to provide any specific information to help them find the old claim, or were they able to locate it just with your driver's license number? I'm definitely going to mention this possibility when I finally get through to someone. Thanks for sharing your experience!

This is such a relief to hear! I've been panicking thinking something was seriously wrong. An old lingering claim makes total sense - I did file for disability briefly back in 2020 during the early pandemic but went back to work pretty quickly. I bet that's exactly what's happening here. Really appreciate you sharing this - it gives me hope that this is fixable once I can actually reach a human being at EDD!

I had this exact issue last month! The system showed my driver's license as "already in use" even though I hadn't filed a claim in over two years. After finally getting through to EDD (took about 2 weeks of trying), they found that my previous claim from 2022 was somehow still showing as "pending" in their system, which was blocking me from filing a new one. The representative was able to clear it out in about 15 minutes once they located the problem. My advice: when you do get through to someone, specifically ask them to check for ANY previous claims under your license number, even ones that should have been closed. Also ask them to verify your claim status shows as "closed" or "inactive" before you hang up. The whole thing was super frustrating but definitely fixable once you reach the right person. Don't give up!

This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for the detailed breakdown. I'm definitely going to ask them specifically about checking for old claims when I get through. It's reassuring to know this is a known issue and not something more serious. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience - it gives me a clear action plan for when I finally reach someone at EDD!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Been trying to file a new disability claim for the past week and keep getting that "driver's license already in use" error. It's so frustrating because I haven't had an active claim in over a year. Reading through all these responses is really helpful though - sounds like it's probably an old claim still showing as active in their system. I'm going to try the early morning calling strategy and ask specifically about checking for lingering claims when I get through. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, makes me feel less alone in this mess! 🙏

I'm so glad you found these responses helpful! It's honestly such a relief when you realize you're not the only one dealing with this weird EDD glitch. I was pulling my hair out when I first got that error message, but now it all makes sense. The early morning calling strategy seems to be the consensus here - I'm definitely going to set my alarm and try first thing tomorrow. It's crazy how a simple system issue like an old claim not being properly closed can cause so much stress. Wishing you luck getting through to them soon!

This is such a common issue unfortunately! I went through the same exact thing about 3 months ago. The "driver's license already in use" error is usually because there's an old claim that didn't get properly closed in their system. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call right at 8 AM when they open - I literally had my phone ready to dial at 7:59 AM 2. When you get through, tell them specifically about the error message and ask them to search for ANY claims under your SSN and driver's license, including old ones 3. They'll likely find an old claim marked as "pending" or "active" when it should be closed 4. Once they manually close it (takes like 5-10 minutes), you should be able to file your new claim right away I know it's incredibly frustrating, but this is definitely fixable! The hardest part is just getting someone on the phone. Don't lose hope - you've got this! 💪

This is super helpful! I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now and was starting to think there was something seriously wrong. Your step-by-step approach gives me hope that I can get this resolved quickly once I actually reach someone. The 8 AM calling strategy seems to be the golden rule here - I'm definitely going to try that tomorrow. It's wild how a simple system glitch can cause so much stress and confusion. Thanks for sharing your experience and the encouragement! 🙌
