EDD keeps asking for same info, no payments after 2 months. What to do?

I applied for disability benefits about 2 months ago and still haven't received any payments. I went to the local office and thought everything was sorted out. But then they sent me the same mail two weeks in a row asking for the same information. It's been 2 weeks since I last heard anything. Has anyone else experienced this? What should I do?

Ugh, classic EDD bureaucracy. I swear they just love making us jump through hoops. I had a similar experience last year - kept getting the same letter over and over. It's like they don't even read what we send them!

I think it's more incompetence than malice. The system is just so overloaded and outdated.

Maybe, but it sure feels personal sometimes. Like, how hard is it to check a box saying 'info received' or something?

Here's what you need to do: 1. Make copies of EVERYTHING you send them. I mean everything. 2. When you send documents, use certified mail with return receipt. Yes, it costs more, but you'll have proof they received it. 3. Call them every single day. I know it's a pain, but persistence pays off. 4. If you can, go to the office in person again. Bring all your documents and don't leave until you get answers. 5. Consider contacting your local state representative. Sometimes they can light a fire under EDD. 6. Keep a log of every interaction - dates, names, what was discussed. It's a frustrating process, but hang in there. You'll get through this!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records. Do you think emailing is as good as certified mail?

Emailing is okay, but in my experience, physical mail with tracking is better. EDD can't claim they never received it. Plus, some offices are still old school and prefer paper.

This is gold 👌 Wish I had known all this when I first applied!

have you tried faxing your docs? sometimes that works better than mail or email. also, check your spam folder just in case they sent something there

I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but for me it was worth it. Spent way more than $20 worth of time trying to get through on my own. But yeah, everyone's situation is different.

Have you checked your UI Online account? Sometimes they update info there before sending mail.

I didn't even know I had an online account! How do I set that up?

Go to the EDD website and look for 'UI Online'. You'll need to create an account with your personal info. It's pretty straightforward once you find it.

This happened to me too! Turns out they had my address wrong by one number, so all my mail was going to my neighbor 🤦‍♂️ Double check all your info is correct in their system
