EDD just authorized my SDI payment - how many days until it hits my account?

So I finally got the notification that my disability payment was authorized on 8/28/25 (after waiting FOREVER) but the money still isn't in my account two days later. This is my first time on disability leave and I have rent due next week. For those who've been through this before - how many business days does it typically take from 'payment authorized' status until the money actually shows up in your bank account? I have direct deposit set up. Getting super anxious watching my account balance... ugh.

mine took 3 days last time. depends on ur bank tho

Thank you! I'm with Chase. Hoping it shows up by Friday then. 🤞

With direct deposit, it typically takes 2-3 business days after authorization for the funds to appear in your account. Remember that weekends don't count as business days. If your payment was authorized on a Friday, you might not see it until Wednesday. Also, the first payment often takes slightly longer than subsequent payments. If it's been more than 5 business days, you should contact EDD to make sure there isn't an issue with your banking information. Sometimes the routing or account numbers get entered incorrectly, or your bank might put a hold on the deposit.

I HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM!!! My bank info was entered wrong (turned out I typed one digit wrong in my account #) and my payment got returned to EDD. Took THREE WEEKS to sort out!! Check ur banking details in ur SDI account RIGHT NOW before u end up in the same nightmare!!

When I was on SDI last year it took 4 business days every time. But my sister got hers in 2 days with a different bank. The EDD website says to allow up to 5 business days before contacting them.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's been 2 business days so far (Thursday would make 3). I'll try to be patient for a couple more days.

It's so incredibly stressful waiting for disability payments when you have bills coming due! I remember refreshing my bank app like 20 times a day when I was waiting for mine. For what it's worth, my payments always took exactly 3 business days after the authorization date. If you're concerned about making rent, maybe talk to your landlord now and explain the situation - most are understanding about disability delays if you communicate in advance.

That's good advice about talking to my landlord proactively. And yes, I'm definitely in the refresh-my-banking-app-constantly phase! Glad to hear 3 days seems to be the norm.

If you're getting worried or it's been more than 5 business days, I'd recommend trying to call EDD directly to check if there's any issue. When I had a payment delay, it turned out there was a flag on my account I didn't know about. I struggled for days to get through on the phone lines until I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual EDD representative quickly. They have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd The rep was able to see exactly what was happening with my payment and resolve the issue right away. Saved me weeks of waiting and stressing.

Oh, I hadn't heard of that service. If I don't see the money by Monday I'll definitely need to call them. Thanks for the tip!

Is that service legit? I've been trying to reach EDD for 2 weeks about my claim issue.

@profile4 Yes, it's legitimate. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for days. They basically navigate the phone system and wait on hold for you, then call you when they have a rep on the line. Saved me hours of frustration.

My first payment took 4 business days, but all the other ones came in 2-3 days like clockwork. The first one might take longer because they're setting everything up. If Monday comes and you still don't have it, definitely call. The EDD system is so frustrating sometimes!

UPDATE: The money just hit my account this morning! Took exactly 3 business days as many of you said. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance.

So happy to hear it came through! I know exactly how stressful that waiting period is. Now you know what to expect for future payments - should be much smoother going forward.

Great to see your update that the payment came through! For anyone else reading this thread who might be in a similar situation - I went through this exact same anxiety last year. The 3-day timeline seems pretty standard for most banks with direct deposit. One thing I learned that might help others: EDD processes payments in batches, so if your payment gets authorized on a Friday, it might not actually get sent to your bank until Monday, which means you'd see it Wednesday/Thursday. The "business days" clock starts ticking when they actually transmit the payment, not when they authorize it. Also, if you're ever in a tight spot with rent/bills while waiting, many utility companies and landlords have hardship programs or will work with you if you proactively reach out and explain you're waiting on disability payments. Much better than waiting until after you're late!

This is super helpful info about the batch processing! I wish I had known that when I was stressing out. The tip about reaching out to landlords proactively is gold too - I ended up doing that and my landlord was totally understanding. It's so much better than trying to explain after you're already late on rent.

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been on SDI multiple times over the years - the waiting for that first payment is absolutely nerve-wracking! I'm glad yours came through on schedule. One thing I've learned that might help future folks: if you're ever in this situation again, you can actually call your bank and ask them to put a "memo watch" on incoming ACH deposits from the state of California. Some banks will give you a heads up call or text when the deposit hits, even before it shows in your online banking. Not all banks do this, but it's worth asking about - saved me from refreshing my app obsessively during my second claim! Also, for anyone still waiting on their first payment: keep all your documentation handy (authorization emails, claim numbers, etc.) because if something does go wrong, having everything organized makes the phone call with EDD so much smoother.

That's such a smart tip about the memo watch with your bank! I had no idea that was even a thing. Definitely going to ask Chase about that for future payments. And you're so right about keeping all the documentation organized - I had screenshots of everything scattered across my phone and it would have been a mess if I'd needed to call EDD. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! My payment was authorized on Tuesday and I'm anxiously waiting for it to hit my account. Reading through everyone's experiences here is so reassuring - sounds like 3 business days is pretty standard. The stress of waiting for disability payments when you have bills due is unlike anything else. I've been checking my banking app every few hours (I know, I know, it won't make it come faster!). Really appreciate everyone sharing their timelines and tips about talking to landlords proactively. That memo watch tip from the bank is genius - definitely calling them tomorrow to ask about that. It's so helpful to know I'm not alone in this waiting game. Fingers crossed mine comes through by Friday! 🤞

Hang in there! I totally get that anxious feeling of checking your app constantly - we've all been there. The good news is that based on everyone's experiences here, Tuesday authorization means you'll likely see it by Friday at the latest. One thing that helped me during my wait was setting specific times to check (like once in the morning and once in the evening) instead of obsessively refreshing. Easier said than done though! The financial stress while waiting for disability payments is so real. You're definitely not alone in this - this whole community understands exactly what you're going through. Hope your payment shows up soon! 🙏

I'm new to this community and currently going through my first disability claim experience. Reading through everyone's stories here has been incredibly helpful and reassuring! I'm still waiting for my initial determination, but seeing how supportive everyone is about sharing their experiences with payment timelines really gives me hope. The stress of navigating the SDI system for the first time is overwhelming, but knowing there are people here who've been through it and are willing to help newcomers like me is amazing. Thanks to everyone who's shared their experiences - it really makes a difference for those of us who are new to this process!

Welcome to the community! You're absolutely right - navigating SDI for the first time can feel really overwhelming, but you've found a great support system here. Everyone has been so generous with sharing their experiences and it really does make such a difference when you're going through something stressful like this. While you're waiting for your initial determination, just know that once you get approved, the payment timeline experiences shared in this thread will be really helpful. The waiting is tough, but having realistic expectations about timing helps so much with the anxiety. Welcome to the community! I'm also relatively new here but have found everyone to be incredibly helpful and supportive. The first time going through the SDI process is definitely stressful - I remember feeling so lost with all the paperwork and waiting periods. One thing I learned that might help while you're waiting for your determination: make sure to keep copies of everything you submit and note down any reference numbers. If you need to follow up later, having all that info organized will save you so much time and stress. This thread is a perfect example of how valuable this community is - seeing real experiences with payment timelines takes away so much of the uncertainty. Hope your claim gets approved quickly and smoothly! Feel free to ask questions along the way - everyone here really does want to help each other navigate this system.

Thanks for the warm welcome and great advice! I'm definitely learning that documentation is key with this whole process. I've started a folder with copies of everything I've submitted and screenshots of confirmation pages - your tip about noting reference numbers is spot on. It's amazing how much anxiety gets reduced just by reading through real experiences like this thread. Before finding this community, I was just googling "how long does SDI take" and getting vague official timelines that didn't really help with the day-to-day stress of waiting. Hearing from people who've actually been through it makes such a difference. Really appreciate everyone being so welcoming to newcomers! Looking forward to hopefully being able to pay it forward and help others once I get through my own process.
