EDD disability extension date error - doctor put wrong year, how long for correction?

Has anyone else had issues with their doctor filing the wrong date for a disability leave extension? My doctor accidentally put 1/1/2024 instead of 1/1/2025 on the paperwork. She's corrected it, but now I'm waiting to hear back about the update. It's so frustrating dealing with these mistakes. Anyone have experience with this or know how long it usually takes for them to process the correction?

I found a way to solve disability paperwork date correction issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjILQ56MSW4

Ugh, I feel your pain! I had a similar issue last year. It took them about 3 weeks to process the correction for me. Make sure you keep calling and checking on the status. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

3 weeks?! That's so long 😩 Did you have any issues with your payments during that time?

Yeah, unfortunately they put my payments on hold until it was sorted out. Make sure you have some savings to fall back on just in case!

This is why I always triple check everything before submitting. Can't trust anyone else to get it right 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Thats a rip off. we shouldnt have to pay to talk to someone about our benefits

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

How long did you have to wait once they called you back?

It was pretty quick actually. Maybe 15 minutes? Way better than being on hold for hours

Have you tried faxing the corrected paperwork directly to their office? Sometimes that can speed things up a bit. Just make sure to keep the confirmation page as proof!

This happened to me too! It's like they make the system confusing on purpose 🤬 I ended up having to go to my local EDD office in person to get it sorted out. It was a pain, but at least it got fixed faster than waiting on the phone.

Oh wow, I didn't even think about going in person. How long did you have to wait there?

It wasn't too bad actually. I went first thing in the morning and only had to wait about an hour. Bring a book tho lol

Pro tip: Always, ALWAYS keep copies of everything you submit. I learned that the hard way. Also, send everything certified mail if you can. It's a pain, but it saves so much hassle in the long run.

This! 💯 I keep a whole binder of disability paperwork now. Never know when you'll need it

I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the EDD and explain the situation. Get a reference number for your call. 2. Have your doctor fax AND mail the corrected form. Make sure they write 'CORRECTION' in big letters at the top. 3. Follow up with EDD every week until it's resolved. 4. If it's not fixed within 30 days, contact your local state representative's office. They can often help speed things up. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Do you know if there's a specific form for corrections or just the regular one?

Glad to help! There's no specific correction form. Just use the same form (DE 2501) but make sure it's clearly marked as a correction. Good luck!

Have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes their social media team can be surprisingly helpful. Worth a shot!

This actually worked for me once! Their DMs are open and they responded within a day

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago! My doctor put 2023 instead of 2024 on my extension paperwork. It was such a headache. Here's what worked for me: I had my doctor's office submit the correction with a cover letter explaining the error, and I also called EDD myself to flag it in their system. The whole process took about 2.5 weeks, but my payments weren't interrupted thankfully. Make sure you get confirmation numbers for everything you submit - it really helps when you have to follow up!

That's really reassuring to hear your payments weren't interrupted! I'm so worried about that happening. Did you have to do anything special to make sure they kept processing while the correction was being reviewed? And how often did you call to follow up?

I had a similar experience last month! My doctor wrote the wrong start date for my extension and it caused a huge delay. What really helped was getting my doctor's office to call EDD directly while I was on a three-way call. They were able to explain the error immediately and flag it as urgent in the system. It still took about 10 days to fully process, but having that direct communication seemed to speed things up. Also, make sure your doctor includes their medical license number on the correction - I noticed they processed it faster when all the credentials were clearly listed. Hang in there, it's frustrating but it will get sorted out!

The three-way call idea is brilliant! I never would have thought of that. How did you coordinate getting your doctor's office to do that? Did you have to schedule it in advance or were they able to do it on the spot? I'm definitely going to suggest this to my doctor's office - it sounds way more effective than all the back and forth paperwork.

I'm dealing with a similar nightmare right now! My doctor put the wrong end date on my extension form - off by a whole month. I called EDD yesterday and they said it could take 2-4 weeks to process the correction, which is absolutely ridiculous. In the meantime, I'm stressed about whether my benefits will be affected. Has anyone had luck escalating these issues to a supervisor? I feel like the front-line reps don't really understand the urgency of these situations when people are depending on these payments to survive.

I totally understand your frustration! When I had my date issue, I found that asking to speak with a supervisor did help - they seemed to have more authority to expedite things. One thing that worked for me was explaining that the error wasn't my fault and that it was causing financial hardship. Also, document everything - write down the names of everyone you speak with and any reference numbers they give you. It shows you're serious about following up and they tend to take you more seriously. Don't give up! Sometimes persistence is the only way to get through their system.

I'm going through this exact same issue right now! My doctor accidentally wrote 2023 instead of 2024 on my disability extension paperwork and I've been waiting almost 2 weeks for them to process the correction. It's so stressful not knowing if my benefits will be affected. I've called twice already but just keep getting told to "wait for it to be reviewed." Reading these responses is really helpful - I think I'm going to try the three-way call approach with my doctor's office that someone mentioned. Has anyone had success getting a timeline estimate from EDD when they call, or do they always just say "we'll review it"?
