Wrong disability start date on EDD SDI claim - doctor's office mistake!

I'm freaking out! Just got my EDD approval letter but noticed my doctor's office put the wrong start date for my disability. They put March 15th instead of March 1st, which means I'm losing TWO WHOLE WEEKS of benefits (about $2,800)! I've been out of work since March 1st due to my back surgery and desperately need those benefits to cover my rent. I called my doctor's office and they admitted their mistake, but said I need to contact EDD to fix it. When I call EDD, I just get an automated message saying call volumes are high and to try again later before it hangs up! Has anyone dealt with getting a disability start date corrected? Do I need my doctor to submit some kind of correction form? Will this mess up my entire claim? I'm already stressed about recovery and now I'm worried about making rent next month without those two weeks of benefits.

omg same thing happened to me last year!!! my doc put down wrong condition code and i lost like 3 weeks of pay. EDD is THE WORST to get on the phone. took me like 50 tries

Did you finally get it fixed? How long did it take? I'm seriously having anxiety attacks about this.

You need to have your doctor's office submit a DE 2525XX Supplemental Certificate form to correct the dates. Make sure they indicate it's a correction to an existing claim and include your claim ID number. Your doctor should know this form - it's specifically for correcting information on an initial medical certification. The good news is that EDD will backpay you once the correction is processed. The bad news is that it might take 2-3 weeks for processing after they receive the form.

Thank you so much! I'll call my doctor's office right now and ask them to submit that form. Do you know if I need to submit anything from my end too?

0 coins

The doctor needs to fax the corrected form to EDD. Then you should call to make sure they got it. BUT GOODLUCK GETTING THROUGH!!! Seriously it's impossible. I had to call like 78 times to get someone on the phone when they messed up my pregnancy disability claim last year. Most frustrating experience of my life!!!!!

Have you tried using Claimyr? It helped me get through to an EDD agent in under 20 minutes when I had a similar issue with incorrect dates. They connect you directly to an EDD representative without you having to keep redialing. It saved me days of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

This is exactly why I tell everyone to carefully CHECK the paperwork your doctor submits before they send it. Too many medical offices have overworked staff who make these kinds of mistakes. You should always request copies of anything they submit for your disability claim.

0 coins

Yeah, lesson definitely learned. I thought they knew what they were doing since they handle these forms all the time. Won't make that mistake again!

i used claimyr last month when i had issues with my extension and got through in like 15 mins after trying for DAYS on my own. worth it just for the stress reduction lol. the edd rep fixed my problem in 10 mins once i actually got someone.

Just want to point out that back surgery disability claims sometimes have complications because of how EDD classifies recovery periods. Make sure your doctor specifically notes that your disability began on March 1st due to pre-surgical medical necessity or immediate post-op recovery (whichever applies). Otherwise, EDD might argue that the disability technically started on surgery date, not before. I had a similar issue with my knee surgery claim and had to have my doctor clarify that I was unable to work starting 5 days before the actual procedure due to pre-op restrictions.

0 coins

That's really good to know, thank you! My surgery was actually on Feb 28th, and March 1st was my first day of post-op recovery. So I should be covered, but I'll make sure the doctor specifies this clearly on the correction form.

when i had my claim fixed they backdated the payments but it took like a month. just be prepared to wait even after you get thru to someone

Just to update everyone, I checked with a colleague who processes these claims. The correct form is actually called a "Doctor's Supplemental Certificate" (DE 2525XX). Your doctor needs to mark it as a correction, include your claim ID, your correct disability start date, and submit it through SDI Online or fax it to the SDI office. Once submitted, you should allow 7-10 business days for processing before calling to check on status. When you do call, request to speak specifically with a "Disability Insurance Program Representative" as they're the ones who can help with medical certification issues.

This is so helpful. My doctor's office wasn't sure which form to use! I'll make sure they have all this information. Really appreciate everyone's advice.

The whole system is designed to make u give up and not get paid what ur owed!! They DELIBERATELY make it impossible to reach anyone and most people just give up. I waited 6 weeks for them to fix a "date issue" on my claim last year and almost got evicted while waiting!!!

0 coins

While the system definitely has problems, date corrections usually don't take 6 weeks. Typically these are resolved within 2-3 weeks once the proper documentation is received. Did you confirm your doctor actually submitted the correction form? Sometimes they say they will but don't follow through.

UPDATE: Got this resolved! First, I used Claimyr and got through to EDD in about 25 minutes (after trying for 2 days on my own). The rep confirmed they needed the DE 2525XX form from my doctor. I called my doctor's office, gave them the exact form name and instructions about marking it as a correction. They submitted it through SDI Online the same day. I called EDD again a week later (used Claimyr again) and they confirmed they received it and were processing the correction. Just got notification today that they've adjusted my claim with the correct start date and the back benefits for those two weeks will be deposited tomorrow! Thank you all so much for your help!

yayyy!!!!! so glad u got it fixed!!!

Excellent! This is exactly how the process should work. I'm glad you were persistent and got what you were entitled to.

Wow, this is such a helpful thread! I'm dealing with something similar where my doctor's office put down the wrong condition code on my SDI claim. Reading through all these responses gives me hope that it can actually be fixed. @Levi Parker so glad you got your issue resolved - losing $2,800 would have been devastating! @Aaron Boston and @Chloe Zhang thanks for mentioning Claimyr - I had no idea that service existed. Definitely going to try that instead of spending days trying to get through to EDD the regular way. @Hunter Hampton your detailed explanations about the DE 2525XX form are incredibly helpful. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't make this information more accessible, but I'm grateful for community members like you who share their knowledge!

This whole thread is a perfect example of why we need better resources for navigating EDD! @Levi Parker I'm so relieved you got your $2,800 back - that's rent money for most people! Your step-by-step update at the end is going to help so many others who find this thread. For anyone else dealing with doctor's office mistakes on SDI claims, here's what I learned from this discussion: 1. Always request copies of what your doctor submits BEFORE they send it 2. If there's an error, ask for the DE 2525XX form specifically 3. Use Claimyr to actually get through to EDD (thanks @Aaron Boston and @Chloe Zhang for that tip!) 4. Be persistent - the system is frustrating but fixable @Hunter Hampton your expertise throughout this thread has been invaluable. People like you make this community actually useful instead of just a place to vent (though venting is valid too!). Hope your recovery is going well @Levi Parker - back surgery is no joke and dealing with EDD stress on top of that sounds absolutely awful.

This is such a great summary of the whole process! As someone new to this community, I'm amazed at how helpful everyone has been. @Levi Parker your story gives me hope - I m'currently dealing with my own EDD nightmare where they re'saying I don t'qualify for benefits even though my doctor certified me as disabled. Reading how you got your issue resolved step-by-step is exactly what I needed to see. @StarSurfer thanks for breaking down the key takeaways - I ve'bookmarked this thread and will definitely be using Claimyr when I call EDD tomorrow. It s'incredible that a third-party service works better than the actual government phone system! @Hunter Hampton your knowledge about the specific forms and processes is so valuable. Do you work in this field or have you just had to learn all this through personal experience? Either way, thank you for sharing your expertise with all of us who are struggling to navigate this system.

As someone who's been through multiple EDD disability claims over the years, I just want to echo what others have said about always double-checking your paperwork before it gets submitted. @Levi Parker I'm so glad you got your $2,800 back - that's a huge amount to lose over a clerical error! One thing I'd add for anyone reading this thread: if you're dealing with a doctor's office that seems overwhelmed or unfamiliar with EDD forms, don't hesitate to ask to speak with their billing department or office manager. They usually handle these forms more frequently than the front desk staff and are less likely to make mistakes. Also, for future reference, you can actually track the status of submitted forms through the SDI Online portal once your doctor submits them electronically. It takes some of the guesswork out of whether EDD actually received the correction. @Hunter Hampton thanks for all your detailed explanations throughout this thread - your knowledge has clearly helped multiple people here navigate this frustrating system!

This is such valuable advice! I wish I had known about asking for the billing department when I was going through my initial claim process. My doctor's front desk staff seemed completely clueless about the SDI forms and kept giving me conflicting information. @Charlotte White the tip about tracking forms through SDI Online is gold - I had no idea that was even possible! That would have saved me so much anxiety wondering if my doctor actually submitted the paperwork. Reading through this entire thread has been incredibly educational. It s'amazing how much institutional knowledge exists in this community that you just can t'find on EDD s'official website. @Levi Parker @Hunter Hampton @StarSurfer and everyone else - thank you for sharing your experiences and expertise. As someone who might need to file for disability in the future, I feel so much more prepared now knowing about Claimyr, the DE 2525XX form, and all these other resources. The fact that we have to rely on each other to figure out how our own government benefits work is frustrating, but I m grateful this'community exists!

This thread is incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar situation where my doctor's office submitted the wrong disability end date (they put it as ongoing when I'm actually returning to work next week). Reading through everyone's experiences gives me confidence that this can be fixed. @Levi Parker congratulations on getting your $2,800 back! That must have been such a relief after all that stress. Your detailed update showing the step-by-step resolution process is going to help so many people who find this thread in the future. @Hunter Hampton your knowledge about the DE 2525XX form and the specific EDD processes has been invaluable throughout this discussion. @Aaron Boston and @Chloe Zhang thanks for the Claimyr recommendation - I had no idea that service existed and it sounds like a game-changer for actually reaching EDD representatives. It's frustrating that we have to crowdsource this information because EDD's own resources are so inadequate, but I'm grateful for communities like this where people share their hard-won knowledge to help others navigate these complex systems.

@Emma Anderson I m'dealing with something similar! My doctor accidentally marked my claim as permanent "disability when" it should have been temporary for my shoulder injury. It s'been a nightmare trying to get it corrected. Reading @Levi Parker s success'story gives me hope that persistence pays off. Has anyone here dealt with correcting a disability TYPE temporary vs (permanent rather than) just dates? I m wondering'if it s the'same DE 2525XX form or if there s a'different process. My return-to-work date is in 3 weeks and I m worried'this mistake will complicate things when I try to close out my claim. @Hunter Hampton if you re still following'this thread, any insights on correcting disability classification errors would be amazing!

0 coins

@Madison King yes, the same DE 2525XX form can be used to correct disability classification errors! I had to deal with this exact issue when my doctor mistakenly marked my carpal tunnel surgery as permanent instead of temporary. The key is making sure your doctor clearly indicates on the form that they're correcting the disability TYPE from permanent to temporary, not just dates. Your doctor should specifically note: 1. Original classification was incorrect 2. Correct classification is "temporary disability" 3. Expected return-to-work date (your 3-week timeline) 4. That this is a correction to existing claim [your claim ID] Since you're close to your return-to-work date, I'd recommend having your doctor submit the correction ASAP and then use Claimyr to get through to EDD to confirm they received it. You don't want this error to complicate your claim closure process. The good news is that temporary-to-permanent errors are usually easier to fix than permanent-to-temporary because EDD prefers shorter claim durations. Your situation should be straightforward once the paperwork is submitted correctly.

@AstroAlpha this is incredibly helpful information! I had no idea the same form could be used for classification corrections. I'm definitely going to contact my doctor's office first thing Monday morning with these specific points you outlined. @Madison King we re'basically in the same boat - it s'so frustrating when these medical office errors create additional stress when we re'already dealing with injuries and recovery! But seeing how @Levi Parker and others have successfully resolved their issues gives me confidence we can get this fixed too. I m new'to this community but already amazed by how knowledgeable and supportive everyone is. The fact that @Hunter Hampton @AstroAlpha and others take time to share detailed, actionable advice is incredible. Thank you all for creating such a valuable resource for people navigating these EDD challenges!

This entire thread has been a masterclass in navigating EDD's disability system! As someone who just started the SDI application process after a workplace injury, I'm bookmarking this whole discussion. @Levi Parker your journey from panic to resolution is exactly what I needed to see - losing $2,800 would have been catastrophic for me too. The fact that you got it all back plus documented every step of the process is going to help countless others. Special thanks to @Hunter Hampton @AstroAlpha and @Charlotte White for sharing such detailed technical knowledge about the DE 2525XX forms and processes. @Aaron Boston and @Chloe Zhang the Claimyr recommendation is gold - I'm definitely using that instead of the endless phone tree nightmare. It's both frustrating and amazing that this community provides better guidance than EDD's own website. Reading through everyone's experiences has given me a clear roadmap for avoiding common pitfalls and handling any issues that come up. Thank you all for creating such a supportive and informative space!

@Gabrielle Dubois Welcome to the community! Your workplace injury claim should go much smoother now that you have all this information upfront. I m'new here too but have been amazed by how generous people are with sharing their hard-earned knowledge about navigating EDD. One thing I d'add from reading through this whole thread - definitely take @Charlotte White s advice'about asking to speak with your doctor s billing'department when they re filling'out your initial forms. It seems like so many issues stem from front desk staff who aren t familiar'with the SDI paperwork requirements. @Levi Parker @Hunter Hampton @AstroAlpha and everyone else who contributed detailed advice - this thread should honestly be pinned or turned into a community guide! The step-by-step breakdown of the correction process, specific form numbers, and resources like Claimyr create such a valuable roadmap for anyone dealing with EDD disability claims. Hope your workplace injury heals quickly and your claim goes smoothly! Feel free to update us on how it goes.

This thread is absolutely incredible - I'm so grateful I found it! I'm currently dealing with my own SDI nightmare where my doctor's office submitted the wrong medical condition code AND the wrong disability dates. Reading @Levi Parker's success story gives me so much hope that these errors can actually be fixed. The community knowledge here is unreal. @Hunter Hampton your detailed explanations about the DE 2525XX form have been a lifesaver - EDD's website is basically useless for this kind of specific information. @AstroAlpha thanks for clarifying that the same form works for classification corrections too. And @Aaron Boston @Chloe Zhang the Claimyr recommendation is genius - I had no idea there was a service that could actually get you through to EDD without spending days redialing! I'm calling my doctor's office tomorrow to request they submit the correction form with all the specific details you've all outlined. It's ridiculous that we have to become experts in government bureaucracy just to get the benefits we're entitled to, but I'm so thankful this community exists to help each other navigate the system. Will definitely update once I get my situation resolved. Fingers crossed it goes as smoothly as @Levi Parker's did!

@Joshua Hellan Welcome to the community! Your situation with both wrong condition codes AND wrong dates sounds incredibly stressful, but you re'absolutely right that this thread proves these issues can be resolved. Having read through everyone s'experiences here, it sounds like you ll'want to be extra clear with your doctor s'office that they need to correct BOTH the medical condition code and the disability dates on the same DE 2525XX form. Make sure they mark it clearly as corrections to your existing claim and include your claim ID number. Since you re'dealing with multiple errors, I d'definitely recommend using Claimyr to get through to EDD after your doctor submits the corrections - that way you can confirm they received the form and that both issues are being addressed in their system. The fact that @Levi Parker got his $2,800 back after a similar ordeal should give you confidence that persistence pays off. Wishing you a smooth resolution and hoping your doctor s office'is more cooperative than some of the horror stories we ve heard'here! Keep us posted on how it goes - your experience will definitely help the next person who finds this thread dealing with multiple form errors.

This thread has been an absolute goldmine of information! As someone who works in healthcare administration and sees these EDD form errors constantly, I wanted to add a few insights that might help others avoid these issues in the first place. @Levi Parker congratulations on getting your $2,800 back - that persistence really paid off! Your detailed documentation of the resolution process is going to be incredibly valuable for future community members. For anyone filing initial SDI claims, here are some red flags to watch for when your medical office is filling out forms: 1. If they ask you for dates instead of checking their own medical records 2. If front desk staff are handling SDI forms instead of clinical or billing personnel 3. If they can't immediately tell you the specific form number they're submitting @Hunter Hampton @AstroAlpha your technical knowledge throughout this discussion has been spot-on. The DE 2525XX correction process you've outlined is exactly right, and I love that you've emphasized the importance of marking corrections clearly with claim ID numbers. @Aaron Boston thanks for introducing everyone to Claimyr - I've recommended it to dozens of patients frustrated with EDD phone lines, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. This community's collective wisdom about navigating EDD's bureaucracy is honestly better than most official resources. Keep sharing these experiences - you're genuinely helping people get the benefits they're entitled to!

@Emma Taylor Thank you for sharing your healthcare administration perspective! Those red flags you mentioned are so important - I wish I had known to look out for those warning signs when I was going through my initial claim process. The point about front desk staff handling SDI forms instead of clinical/billing personnel really resonates - that s'exactly what happened in my case and probably explains why so many errors occur. As someone new to this community, I m'blown away by the depth of knowledge and support here. Reading through @Levi Parker s journey'from panic to resolution, combined with all the technical expertise from @Hunter Hampton @AstroAlpha and your professional insights, has given me so much confidence about navigating the EDD system if I ever need to file a claim. The Claimyr recommendation from @Aaron Boston and @Chloe Zhang seems to be a total game-changer for actually reaching EDD representatives. It s honestly ridiculous that we'need third-party services to access our own government benefits, but I m grateful the option exists!'This entire thread should be required reading for anyone dealing with SDI claims. Thank you all for creating such an invaluable resource through your shared experiences and expertise!

This thread is absolutely incredible and exactly what I needed to find! I'm currently in a similar situation where my doctor's office made multiple errors on my SDI claim - wrong start date, wrong condition code, AND they somehow listed me as "male" when I'm clearly female. I've been stressed out of my mind thinking I'd have to start the entire process over. Reading @Levi Parker's detailed journey from panic to getting that $2,800 back has given me so much hope! And the technical expertise from @Hunter Hampton @AstroAlpha and @Emma Taylor about the DE 2525XX correction process is invaluable - EDD's own website is absolutely useless for finding this kind of specific information. @Aaron Boston @Chloe Zhang thank you for the Claimyr recommendation! I had no idea this service existed and after reading multiple success stories here, I'm definitely using it instead of the endless phone tree nightmare. The fact that a third-party service works better than the actual government system is frustrating but I'm grateful it exists. @Emma Taylor your red flags list is spot on - my doctor's front desk staff were definitely the ones handling my SDI forms and they clearly had no idea what they were doing. I wish I had read your advice before submitting my initial claim! I'm calling my doctor's office first thing Monday with all the specific information from this thread. This community's collective knowledge is honestly better than any official EDD resource. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and helping each other navigate this broken system!

@Zara Shah Oh wow, having multiple errors including the wrong gender must be incredibly frustrating! But you re'in great hands with all the expertise shared in this thread. The fact that @Levi Parker successfully resolved his date error for $2,800 shows these corrections definitely work, even with multiple issues. Since you re dealing'with several different errors dates, condition (code, AND gender , make)sure your doctor s office'understands they need to correct ALL of these on the same DE 2525XX form submission. Having them submit separate corrections could cause delays or confusion in EDD s system.'The gender error is actually probably the easiest one to fix since it s clearly'a clerical mistake, but definitely make sure they mark it prominently on the correction form. And definitely use Claimyr when you need to follow up with EDD - after reading all these success stories, it seems like the only reliable way to actually reach a human being there! @Emma Taylor s red flags'list is so valuable - I m definitely saving'those tips for anyone I know who might need to file SDI claims in the future. It s crazy that'we have to become experts in spotting medical office mistakes just to get our own benefits! Hope your correction goes smoothly and you get everything resolved quickly! Keep us updated on how it goes - your experience with multiple errors will definitely help others who find this thread.
