EDD input wrong return-to-work date, affecting benefits - How to fix?
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with EDD. They input the wrong return to work date in my account. My original return date is supposed to be in April 2025, but they put March 2025 instead. This error is affecting my benefits and payments. Both my application form and physician form show the correct April 2025 date, but it's wrong in their system. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get it fixed quickly?

Ugh, classic EDD mess-up. I had a similar issue last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call EDD first thing in the morning (like 8:01 AM) 2. Have all your docs ready (application, physician form, etc.) 3. Be super polite but firm with the rep 4. Ask them to notate your account 5. Follow up with an email for a paper trail Good luck! The system is a nightmare, but persistence pays off.

•This is solid advice 💯 I'd add: get the name of every rep you talk to. It helps if you need to escalate later.

•calling at 8:01 AM? lol good luck even getting through. I tried for WEEKS and couldn't get a human

•@profile 3 yeah, it's tough. Took me like 50 tries over 3 days. But it beats waiting for them to fix it on their own 🤷♂️

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things through faster with EDD.

•I hadn't thought of that! How do I find my assembly member?

•Just google '[your city] California assembly member'. They usually have a 'contact us' form for constituent services. Explain your situation and they might be able to help!

•Thanks so much! I'll give that a shot.

Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit?

•Totally get the skepticism, but yeah, it's legit. I was desperate and took a chance. Saved me hours of hold time.

•Wait, we have to PAY to talk to EDD now? This system is so broken 😡

•@profile 9 I hear ya. It's not ideal, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

I'm in the same boat, different issue. Been trying to get through for 3 weeks. This whole system needs an overhaul.

Quick question - did you certify for any weeks with the incorrect return date? If so, you might need to ask them about retroactively adjusting those weeks too.

•Oh crap, I didn't even think about that. Yeah, I did certify for a couple weeks. Thanks for the heads up!

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to an EDD office in person? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face works better than phone/online.

•Do they even allow walk-ins anymore? I thought everything was appointment only now

•Some offices do limited walk-ins. Worth checking their website for your local office.

I went through something similar with EDD last year! Here's what finally worked for me: I submitted a formal written appeal through their online portal AND mailed a copy with all supporting documents (your application, physician form, etc.). Make sure to include a cover letter explaining the discrepancy and requesting immediate correction. The written route took about 2-3 weeks but they actually fixed it properly. Also document everything - take screenshots of your account showing the wrong date. The phone route is hit or miss, but the paper trail approach seems more reliable for date corrections. Hang in there!

•This is really helpful advice! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now. How exactly did you submit the formal written appeal through the online portal? I can't seem to find that option when I log into my account. Did you use a specific form or just send it through their general contact system?

•@CosmicCommander This is super thorough advice! Quick question - when you mailed the documents, did you send them certified mail to make sure they received it? I'm always paranoid about EDD losing paperwork in the mail. Also, do you remember roughly how long it took from when you submitted everything to when you saw the correction actually show up in your account?

This is so frustrating! I'm actually going through the exact same thing right now - EDD put my return to work date as February when it should be May. It's been 3 weeks since I first noticed and called them. I've tried calling multiple times but can never get through. The automated system just keeps telling me my case is "under review" but nothing changes. It's affecting my payments too and I'm getting stressed about rent. Has anyone had success with emailing them directly? I saw someone mention sending documents by mail but I'm worried they'll get lost. The whole system feels like it's designed to make us give up 😤

•I totally feel your frustration! 3 weeks is way too long for something like this. From what I've seen in this thread, it sounds like the multi-pronged approach works best - don't rely on just one method. Maybe try the assembly member route that @Sophia Miller mentioned earlier? That seems like it could get faster results than waiting for EDD to figure it out on their own. Also, if you do decide to mail documents, definitely send them certified mail like @Jamal Brown suggested. At least then you ll have'proof they received it. Hang in there - you re not'alone in this mess! 💪

•@Amina Bah I m'so sorry you re'dealing with this too! The under "review status" is basically EDD s'way of saying we "ll'get to it when we get to it which" is infuriating when you have bills to pay. Have you tried the claimyr.com thing that @Mason Davis mentioned? I know it costs money but honestly at this point it might be worth it to actually talk to a human. Also maybe document everything - take screenshots of your account showing the wrong date, save any emails, etc. If you end up having to escalate this later, having a paper trail will help. The system really does feel designed to wear us down, but don t give'up! 🤗

I'm dealing with something similar right now! EDD has the wrong disability end date in my system and it's been a nightmare. One thing that helped me was documenting EVERYTHING - I created a spreadsheet with dates I called, who I spoke with (if anyone), reference numbers, etc. Also, try calling right at lunch time (around 12:30 PM) - I've had better luck getting through then because fewer people are calling. If you have any emails or confirmation numbers from when you originally submitted your forms, make sure to have those ready too. The reps seem to take you more seriously when you can reference specific case numbers. This whole process is so broken but you got this! 💪

•The lunch time calling tip is genius! I never would have thought of that timing. Creating a spreadsheet to track everything is also really smart - I wish I had started doing that from day one. It's crazy that we have to become project managers just to get basic government services, but I guess that's the reality with EDD. Thanks for sharing what's worked for you! 📊

•@Maxwell St. Laurent The lunch time tip is brilliant! I ve been'calling first thing in the morning like everyone suggests but maybe that s when'they re swamped.'And yeah, the spreadsheet idea is so smart - I started one after reading your comment and it s already'helping me keep track of this mess. It s ridiculous'that we need to become our own case managers just to get basic help, but at least we re all'figuring out the system together. Thanks for the practical advice! 🙏

Oh wow, this thread is so helpful! I'm actually dealing with a similar EDD date error right now - they have my bonding leave start date wrong by a whole month. Reading everyone's experiences and tips is giving me hope that this can actually get resolved. I'm definitely going to try the multi-pronged approach - calling (maybe at lunch time like @Maxwell St. Laurent suggested!), contacting my assembly member, AND doing the written appeal with documentation. It's honestly ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops for what should be a simple date correction, but I'm grateful for this community sharing what actually works. Time to start my own spreadsheet and get organized! Thanks everyone for the real-world advice 💪

•@James Martinez Yes, this thread has been a goldmine of practical advice! I m'in a similar boat with EDD having the wrong dates in my system and it s'been so stressful. The multi-pronged approach definitely seems like the way to go based on everyone s'experiences. I m'also planning to try that lunch time calling strategy - makes total sense that fewer people would be calling then. It s'wild that we basically need to become EDD experts just to get our own benefits straightened out, but at least we re'all helping each other navigate this broken system. Good luck with your bonding leave issue - keep us posted on what works! 🤞

This is such a common issue with EDD unfortunately! I went through something similar last year where they had my disability dates completely wrong. Here's what finally worked for me: I called the disability insurance number (not the main EDD line) at exactly 8:00 AM and got through after about 45 minutes on hold. The DI reps seem to have more authority to make these date corrections on the spot. Make sure you have your SDI number ready and all your original paperwork. When I explained the discrepancy and provided the correct dates from my physician's form, they were able to fix it immediately and even backdated my payments. Also, if you're still having trouble getting through by phone, try calling on Tuesdays or Wednesdays - Mondays and Fridays are usually swamped. Don't give up, this is definitely fixable! 🙏

•@Mateo Warren This is incredibly helpful! I had no idea there was a separate disability insurance number - I ve'been calling the main EDD line this whole time like an idiot 🤦♀️ The fact that the DI reps have more authority to make immediate corrections makes so much sense. I m'definitely going to try calling that number tomorrow morning at 8 AM sharp. And the Tuesday/Wednesday tip is gold - I ve'been trying Mondays thinking I d'start "the week fresh but" that s'probably when everyone else calls too. Thanks for sharing what actually worked for you - gives me hope that this nightmare can actually end!
