EDD reported wrong recovery date (2025?!) - Now facing potential overpayment. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with EDD. I got a message saying I reported recovering from my disability on a date that's way off in the future (like 2025). Now they're talking about a potential overpayment. I'm pretty sure I didn't put that date, but I can't remember what I actually put. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? I'm worried about losing my benefits or having to pay something back. Any advice on how to fix this?

Ugh, EDD and their system errors strike again! 🙄 I had a similar issue last year. Call them ASAP and explain the situation. They can usually fix these date errors pretty quickly if you catch them early. Just be prepared to wait on hold for like... forever.

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I usually get through in under an hour that way.

I found a way to get someone on the phone without the crazy wait times. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Make sure you document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots, write down who you talk to and when. EDD can be a real pain to deal with, and having a paper trail can save your butt if things get messy.

This happened to my cousin last month. Turns out it was just a glitch in their system. They fixed it pretty quick once he got through to someone. Don't stress too much, OP!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call EDD first thing in the morning (8:00 AM sharp) 2. Have your claim number ready 3. Explain the situation calmly and clearly 4. Ask them to review the date in their system 5. Request a correction if it's indeed wrong 6. Get the name of the rep you speak with 7. Ask for a confirmation number or reference for the call 8. Follow up with a written request through your online account If they give you any trouble, ask to speak with a supervisor. Don't let them brush you off. This is your money and your claim - be persistent! Also, check your original claim paperwork if you still have it. It might help to have that on hand when you call. Good luck!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes you can submit a correction request through there without having to call. Might be worth a shot before you spend hours on hold.

I went through something similar about 6 months ago! Turned out their system had a bug that was automatically adding years to recovery dates. The rep I spoke with said it was happening to a bunch of people. The good news is they were able to fix it retroactively once I explained the situation. Just make sure to ask them to put a note in your file about the system error so it doesn't happen again. Also, if you have any medical documentation showing your actual recovery timeline, have that ready when you call - it helped speed up my case resolution.
